That being said, the current situation was bleak.
Even if their grievance reaches the government, there are still procedures it would go through to handle the case. Thus, dragging it to one or two days is common.
But their crops can't wait.
Liu Yusheng listened quietly to the adults' conversation, and the big rock weighing heavily on her heart became heavier.
There's always this niggling hunch that this situation wouldn't be as easy to flip around as it sounds.
Sure enough, as she was slumbering in the middle of the night, there was a sudden noise outside.
Weeping blended amidst the clamor and soon, the courtyard was lit up.
The whole family was jarred awake.
“Who is crying … It's Du Juan! Oh no!”
“It must be that Erlin guy who has caused trouble!” Liu Dalin didn't even care about putting on his s.h.i.+rt, and rushed out barely with his shoes on.
"Nannan, stay in the room obediently, mother will go and see what's happened." Chen Xiulan's face was all white. She soothed the baby vaguely and followed her husband out.
Only the two children were left in the room.
Liu Yusheng's mouth snapped together tightly, looking at her elder brother who had been sleeping beside her undisturbed. Then watching the flickering brightness outside the window and she sighed deeply. After pondering for a moment, she slid down along the edges of the bed.
The courtyard was crowded with people, and many villagers held torches in their hands to brighten the courtyard.
The crowd formed a ring in the middle of the courtyard, leaving only a gap, which allowed Liu Yusheng to see the situation in the center.
Her second aunt Du Juan sat there paralyzed, crying on the ground.
There was a person lying still on the ground with his face covered with blood. It's her second uncle, Liu Erlin.
“Du Juan, don't cry, the doctor will be here in a minute. It's okay, he'll be fine.” Chen Xiulan also shed tears in her eyes, and comforted Du Juan, who was beset with grief.
“He's not dead, what are you crying about!” Grandma Liu came out with a basin of water and reprimanded even though her eyes were red too. “Lift him up and let's clean him first! Don't wait for his wounds to fester while waiting for the doctor.”
A group of people lifted the man into the room again and laid him carefully on a bamboo bed on the side of the house.
Father Liu felt his throat blocked, squatted down and hugged a small ball into his arms, patted her back with his hands, his eyes circles slowly turned red.
Liu Yusheng gave way. She raised her head and saw her grandfather not knowing when he had come out. His old face was stained heavily with anger and pain.
“Master!” Liu Yusheng called out. There was no bright smile on the tiny face of the little girl. At nearly two, she seemed to know when to be sad and happy.
Grandpa Liu bent down and took the baby's hand, "Nannan, were you scared?”
“No, not afraid.” The baby shook her head.
Nodding comfortingly, Father Liu smiled strongly. “We are so sweet. Now the house is messy. You go back to your room to sleep first. Wake up and go back home, just go.”
Grandpa Liu nodded gladly, and struggled hard to smile, "Our Nannan is a good girl. Now that the house is in chaos, go back to your room and sleep first. And when you wake up, our house will be back to how it used to be, go ahead."
Liu Yusheng shook her head again, “I, blessed, give second uncle!”
Father Liu felt as if his throat was blocked. He squatted down and hugged a small dumpling into his arms, patted her back with his hands while the circles around his eyes slowly turned red.
His sweet little granddaughter.
Nestled in the arms of the old man, Liu Yusheng turned her head back at the crowd behind her.
Her second uncle's wound was on his head. It must have been smashed with a farm tool. Although it looked frightful, fortunately, it would not endanger his life for the time being.
It's just that he's bleeding too much, no wonder he pa.s.sed out easily.
There were too many people around, and she couldn't feed him spiritual spring water directly like how she saved Grandpa Liu last time.
Her eyes moved down and fell on the bamboo cup left on the table in the hall. She sprinted shakily towards it.
"Nannan…" The old man wanted to stop, but when he saw that the little baby was walking steadily, his heart was put down. Besides, his heart was now concentrated on the injury on his younger son's head, so he had no mind to think too much.
Picking up the bamboo water cup, she first ran to the kitchen, pretending to scoop some water from the water tank, and then secretly poured spiritual spring water into the cup.
She went back to the hall again and squeezed into the crowd. As she was too small and short, she wasn't even as tall as the bamboo bed and couldn't feed water herself.
All she could do was pull her father's sleeve, “Dad, drink, second uncle!”
"Nannan, don't make a fuss, go back to bed first, listen.” Liu Dalin lowered his head and found the little baby squeezing in, and hurriedly coaxed her away from the crowd. "Xiulan, take the child back to the room, it's too messy here."
The soldiers are in turmoil. Everyone has no interest in caring about a baby.
Seeing that her mother was about to take her away, Liu Yusheng hurriedly said, “Hey, hey! Nannan is blessed!”
In desperation, this latter sentence rang particularly sharp.
It is not that she wants to claim that she is divine, but in this case, she can only infer from the people in the ancient period, who are in awe of ghosts and G.o.ds. Most of them are superst.i.tious. Even if she says it glibly, there is still a layer of faith that adults can't totally ignore.
Sure enough, speaking of the word blessing, Liu Dalin hesitated, but still took the cup.
If they were to ignore it, wouldn't that mean blocking the second brother's blessing?
Just have faith with the baby's words and give it a try!
Seeing her father feeding the water slowly to Liu Erlin, Liu Yusheng sighed a breath of relief.
With spiritual spring water, the wound on her second uncle's head will soon stop bleeding and heal.
When the worst injury has been dealt with, the others are naturally not a problem.
In the morning, her second uncle could live again.
As for the way people are looking at her, Liu Yusheng brushed it off and paid no attention.
Unbeknown to her, a few village women who followed the group to watch the spectacle, gathered in front of the kitchen and chatted spiritedly.
“… just recently, the father had escaped the gates of h.e.l.l, and now it's his son's turn to be seriously injured and unable to wake up. Do you think Mrs. Liu's family has offended Tai Sui this year?”
"What offended Tai Sui, haven't you heard of the rumors that have been going around the village these past two days? Everyone is saying that their little granddaughter is a disaster star!”
"Hiss! Who said that? Oh, think about it, it must be true! When their baby granddaughter was born, didn't they say that she couldn't open her eyes for a month? In despair, the family had to fish out all their silvers ready to take her to the medical center, but then, she opened her eyes suddenly! That's truly evil!"
"Far more than that! How old is their baby now? Two years old! The family's old man and his son have gone through a series of accidents! And there's our village, we haven't encountered drought for more than a decade, and now it's looming!"
“My G.o.d, in line with all these, she is really a disaster star! If she continues to stay in the village, what would happen to the village in the future …”
"Huala!" Without warning, a basin filled with b.l.o.o.d.y water came splas.h.i.+ng down the gossip mongers, filling their pockets.
