Radley chuckled. Good riddance, if he was asked. The term was so commonly used now. The estimated death toll of the Rapture was estimated at one hundred and fifty-three million people and still counting. A death toll number that was last seen in world war two. There are seven billion people on this planet and his family already accounted for two of them. Some of the orphans here were in the same shoes. It made him feel better. At least he was not alone in the world. His new friend was in the exact same shoes. They were the same age as for a few months difference. Allen was the older one. His birthday was in April and Radley's birthday was in September. He and his sister where fraternal twins. Born two hours apart.
Radley still did his odd jobs on the side. He was considered to be too old to be adopted so he went to school and still did some drug runs. The one time he was even asked to some really messed up thing but he refused it. He was seventeen at the time.
Leanna was following him one day always curious as to what he was doing after school. He never wanted to hang out with them, yet he was always bringing them all snacks and the likes.
She saw what he was doing and couldn't stand for it. She confronted him that night. The two had such a falling out that day that ended up with Leanne being slapped by Radley. He left in a rage. Leanne was too shocked to stop him.
The day after Allen and Radley had a ma.s.sive falling out. Radley truly regretted what he did. How was he any different from his father? He went to her and apologized on his knees, but told her he wasn't going to stop. This caused a schism between the three.
Leanne hated what he was doing and Allen just trying to calm the flames.
Not long after the second tragedy came. This time there were even more people who died. Over two hundred million. A second Rapture. This made Radley question his sanity. Was there a G.o.d who just hated people? Leanne was one of those that were unlucky and didn't make it. It broke Allen and angered Radley. They weren't even on good terms. He never did get the chance to say goodbye. That day he vowed to turn over a new leaf.
Allen became a drunkard. Most of his money went into drinking, and some of the times Radley followed. He knew how the man felt. He remembered the good old days when he still had his family. He remembered the one time he accidentally made the was.h.i.+ng machine flood the bathroom. He chuckled at the thought. They were eighteen at the time.
By the time they both finished school they both got an office job as Data entry clerks. They even worked in the same place. While Radley did well enough at school he was never able to get a scholars.h.i.+p, he was just below the threshold. It didn't get him down. Allen on the other side was a borderline flunky. He barely made it through school after his sister's death.
They both worked there until they were twenty. On one day both Radley and Allen made their way to the bar where they frequented. That night Radley had a sense that something was off.
Allen in his usual drunk demeanor looked at Radley and asked, "Hey man, dsu you sink we'sh are on s.h.i.+sh planet jusht to be tortured by G.o.d?"
Radley wasn't a religious man but the thought had crossed his mind a few times, "We should live for the present not dwell on what could have been. I know that s.h.i.+t happens. If a G.o.d does exist, then I don't know, but yes I have asked that question before. Why?"
"Aren't you tired…of everys.h.i.+ng?"
"When your sister died I vowed that I will go on a cleaner path. That's why I am doing a desk job. Also why I am trying to get you to become cleaner."
"Your drin…hic…drinking. Fshuck you."
"Yeah, but not nearly as much as you. In any case don't you think you have had enough?"
"You ashk me shat every time. There ish no shuch hing."
Radley shook his head, "Come on man and let's go."
He helped Allen up who hang onto him, "The shpot. I wantsh to go there."
The three of them had a spot on the roof of a building. They haven't visited it since the death of Leanne.
The two of them overlooked the city. Still looked the same since that day. Allen walked to the edge and looked down, "Should shpit down on shomeone'sh head."
Radley stood up and made his way over to Allen, "Dude, perhaps not stand so close to the edge."
"Haha, you shcared I might fall down?"
"Kind of, yeah. I don't want to lose you too."
Allen smiled at him, and with a moment of sobriety he said, "Well, sorry to disappoint."
Radley antic.i.p.ated this and gabbed for his arm before he fell. He was a bit too slow but he was still able to catch him. He felt the muscles in his arm tear from the catch, but he still didn't let go. With tears in his eyes he roared, "What, you think I was just going to let you go!? Think again."
Allen did one last pull with his hand to slip out Radley's hand. He fell to his death head first. Grey matter splattered the area as his neck twisted in an unnatural angle. He didn't fell it because he was dead on impact.

Radley stared down in disbelief. His one arm was pretty badly hurt so he used his other hand to push himself up. The gutter came undone in the scuffle. Radley wasn't aware of it. He tried pus.h.i.+ng himself up using the gutter. The gutter snapped and sent Radley falling to the ground as well. The way he fell was pretty brutal. He first got slashed in his other arm due to his proximity to the wall, then he got disemboweled sending his intestines everywhere. The number of times he hit the wall slowed his fall when he crashed into the grounds, but it was all for naught. He was still breathing heavily on the ground. What a way to go Radley thought. A freak accident that could have been avoided. His eyes became darker as he closed his eyes for the last time.
He woke up with a start looking at the sky, "What the h.e.l.l!?"
