There were a bunch of murmurs in the crowd, but really no jeering. Which surprised Radley.
The ref spoke to Radley, "Do you accept her surrender?"

Radley nodded. The ref continued, "The winner by forfeit, 'The Loner'."
He walked to Radley, "That was a bit anticlimactic but not unexpected. You did a number on the last opponent you faced, so wouldn't be surprised if people fear you now. I should probably give you a heads up. A lot of people place bets on these sorts of compet.i.tions, and you are cutting into their bottom line. Don't be surprised if some people come knocking on your door, but on the other hand, you are considered a favorite in this compet.i.tion. So, maybe you won't get trouble."
"This is starting to sound like a threat."
"A warning. It's just a paltry three thousand. There are numerous ways to make money."
"Sorry, I tried the other way. My opponent didn't budge and I need this money. So no, I will fight to win."
He turned around and walked to the waiting area.
The next match wasn't so cut and dry. Elita and the other guy faced off. There were a lot of countering and close calls, but in the end, Elita got a clean stab to her opponent's gut. She quickly followed it up with a stab to the leg and then to the arm. She finished him off with a solid punch to the side of his face. While she didn't receive any serious damage she was still puckered out. The paramedics treated the now unconscious man and her.
There was a brief reprieve before the main match. People were going ballistic in the stands. They were flailing around money like it was n.o.body's business. Making bets and the like.
The moment finally dawned. Radley versus Elita. The Psychopath versus the Perfectionist. The Loner versus The Unknown.
Radley and Elita stood opposite each other. The ref stood between them and said, "Begin!'
Elita's curiosity got the better of her, "I could have sworn that your arm was broken yesterday night. What gives!?"
"Are you sure, because as you can see…" He waved his arms around a bit, "It's perfectly fine. You people always a.s.sume so much. Does this mean you will back down?"
"Not on your life."
Elita ran towards him and slid on the ground during the approach. Radley dove over her. She thrust upwards when he tried that. Radley saw the incoming blade and parried her wrist to avoid a fatal blow. He rolled away and recovered. She righted herself and stood upright. She ran towards him and did a roundhouse kick. Radley went low in that exact instant and did a low sweep. She did a strange flip and used both her feet to strike him in the face. Radley pivoted on the spot to avoid the double kick while still remaining low. She corrected herself and did a backward kick. Radley rolled backward to avoid yet again. He was impressed, she was not. No attacks were hitting him and it was starting to get annoying. He wanted to see how he would fare in a straight fight without using abilities.
She decided to go all out. Her feet glowed and she burst forward faster than Radley could respond. He was barely able to dodge as he got nicked in the face. He danced a bit on the spot. Two can play at that game. His speed suddenly exceeded her wildest dream and received a flurry of shots to her abdomen. Radley aimed for her face and stopped less than an inch away. He flipped his hand around and knocked on her mask, "This thing is inhibiting your perception. Why don't you remove it? You are going to lose, and bad, if you keep it on."
"I don't want people to see my face."
"There is nothing wrong with your face."
"It's not that, it something personal. This event is too public."
"What you are afraid of, that you are too pretty?"
"Please understand…" He noticed the melancholy in her voice.
"Ah, I see. It has something to do with your sister."
This enraged her, "How the f.u.c.k did you know about her!?"
"Blame your mother for that one."
"My mother. Is she the one feeding you so much information about me?"
"Just the thing about your sister. The rest is one me. Look, I will try and make this an honorable loss. Because you will lose if you keep the mask on."
"I will beat you with it on."
He shook his head. She used her burst speed to getaway. Radley used his sonic boom that disoriented her, but thanks to the mask the effect was lessened. She still staggered though. Radley charged her down. She did a backward walkover and used her feet to strike towards Radley. Radley went into a slide and knocked her hand away from the ground making her eat dirt. He spun around and grabbed her mask from her, "I know how you feel, but if you are a true warrior. You would fight with every advantage you got. The mask will only give you a dismal loss."
She covered her face.
Radley sighed and closed his eyes. He threw her mask back, "Suit yourself, but I did warn you. Time for me to get serious."
Those words made her feel a bit. He was probably bluffing. She grabbed her mask and quickly put it on. His speed became that of a demon. He was on her before she could even react to him moving. He used his power slam ability and grabbed her by the arm. He flung her through the air and smashed her into the ground. The ground actually gave way, "I warned you."
Her breath became ragged. Nasty wheezing came from her, and suddenly everything stopped. Her pupils dilated staring at the sky. A popup came. 70 Invo points. No diff points. He could care less about the popup. That made Radley panic. She was dead. He ran towards her and gave her CPR. During his stint as a drug runner, he actually had to save people this way. The ref intervened and pulled him back. The paramedics took over. They had to defibrillate on the spot. It took two tries but she finally started to breathe. Radley collapsed on the spot. His heart pumping in his throat. She will live, she will live. He broke his own rule for not using that ability against one of the contestants, but he needed her to break out. She would never realize her potential if she wore that mask. Radley could only stare as she was taken away. The crowds went quiet because Adira was on the field.
