Raven's dreams were filled with images. Things he could almost, but not quite grasp. People and places that he had once known, at the tip of remembrance but not quite there.

Most clear was a memory of that girl. It must not have been that long since he had met her. It was snowing and she was leaning against him, his cloak thrown around her shoulders, as she limped.

"Why are you helping me?" Her words were weak. "It does not help you any."

"It doesn't hurt me either." His own voice answered, though it sounded different too. More strength to it, less uncertainty. "I try to help people where I can. Of course, it is impossible to help everyone, but if I have an opportunity than it is only right that I should do my utmost to provide a.s.sistance to those who need it, like yourself."

"Suit yourself."

She seemed so despondent. As if she did not even care much for her own life. It made his heart ache thinking that such a pretty young lady would already have given up on life.

It was then he vowed to bring life into those eyes.

He turned away and whistled loudly. And he was immediately answered as a shape barreled out of the snow at him.

Huge, white, and very furry. The gigantic wolf paused a few steps from him, eyeing him with its good eye. Every inch of it though radiated extreme happiness to see him, but its body language also asked him who the lady was. There was a suggestion there as well that they looked good together making Raven laugh at this animal that kept trying to set him up with females.

He gave dismissive body language back, that this was hardly the time and the girl was half-frozen.

He could feel the girl shrinking next to him, terrified of his friend. He pulled her over, "This is Otto. He's a friend. Come on, up you get."

The dire wolf crouched letting him settle the girl on top. He let the cloak completely cover her going without. The cold did not bother him quite as much as it did her. Besides he was planning on running.

Otto picked it up in his body language and got excited.

Raven woke up, startled by the feeling of his body being moved. The back of his s.h.i.+rt was being held as he was deposited gently back onto the body of that creature. A few minutes later the children were placed beside of him and they immediately scrambled into his arms.

He hugged them close as the creature began moving. As he shook off the last vestiges of sleep, he got the impression that it was listening to his request from yesterday.

He was not even sure why it would listen to him. It just did. Was it really that easy being a

druid?

Or had he trained really hard and somehow it still leaked through? Raven had no real clue nor did it matter to much. It was a relief though.

He lay back down, waiting for the trip to be over. It was not the worst way to travel.

"Umm, where is it taking us?"

"He." Raven said absentmindedly. He was not even sure how he knew that. "Up to the surface."

He had forgotten his companions did not understand beasts in the way he did. A bit embarra.s.sing, but not the worst thing to forget.

"You're amazing!" Jem exclaimed, "I wish I could understand animals like that. How do you become a druid?"

"I don't remember." Raven had also forgotten that the children were not aware that he had amnesia, "I can't remember much of anything before Dawn found me."

"Oh!" Rex exclaimed, "That sounds rough."

"Well, it is slowly coming back." He shrugged lightly. Not that he even wanted it to anymore.

Life was good enough as it was. And he was not sure it would not be worse if he did remember everything. What if he had been a terrible person?

Though, he doubted he had actually been a terrible person. What memories he had, he seemed to be at least somewhat concerned with others.
