They had taken up residence in a small manor in the middle cla.s.s district of the city, a quiet place that wouldn't draw too many eyes. She made sure to keep a low profile to prevent any nuisances, the last thing she wanted was for Qin Hai to get wind of their location.
As such, things had been silent for a long time with no sign of any of Qin Hai's minions showing up, in fact; Qin Ruyan had immensely enjoyed the quiet, ordinary life with her son and daughter.
She had even arranged a marriage with a girl who lived next door. The young girl had come from a humble background but her beauty and intelligence shone through, not to mention she had grown up with her son and daughter with them often playing together.
Things seemed to be going well for the Qin family, but there was still a problem that troubled Qin Ruyan greatly.
Qin Ruyan sighed as she sat quietly on a meditative mat.
She was currently sitting in a rather lavish room with expensive looking furnis.h.i.+ngs. The tables were made from expensive green wood, the ornaments made from gold and silver and the pictures that hung on the wall depicted the various scenic areas that could be found around Falling Leaves.
Outside was a wooden balcony with a small garden, obviously the room was not situated on the first floor.
Qin Ruyan had been recalling the strange behaviour her son had been showing throughout the past 8 years and it had been giving her a big headache. She didn't notice at first but odd incidents had began piling up leading to her discovery.
Her son Qin Tian seemed to possess two personalities.
Some days he was a dutiful son with a calm yet stern temperament, treating his elders with respect and doing what he was told. Other days he was quiet with a curious but with an eerie gaze that peered into the one's soul, often laughing at something no one understood. He would laze about and do nothing even if he was asked. What most aggrieved her is that this persona of her son would not call her mother!
Although it was strange, it didn't really matter to her if he had one or a hundred personalities; as long they all called her mother she would accept it. Even if her son was an arrogant tyrant who killed the innocent and tortured others for fun like many of the young masters in the heaven realm.
He was her son and she would love him no matter what, Qin Ruyan was completely biased. No matter what he did, no matter how wrong; she would always take his side.
It could be seen how deep her love for her son was as it had far pa.s.sed the normal threshold and entered the fanatical realm.
It was because of this that every time that strange persona called her woman, her heart would break a little in anguish.
[Why won't you call me mother? Am I not good enough?] Where her deepest thoughts.
Qin Ruyan shook her head and sighed again, closing her eyes she entered a meditative state with the goal of thinking of a way to make that other persona call her mother.
...
Outside it was a cloudy as the day slowly faded into the night. A strong autumn wind blew through the trees that surrounded the manor, their brown leaves fluttering in the breeze.
The manor itself was not large, it was humble in appearance and made generally from ash wood. The street it bordered was kept clean and not dirty with animal droppings like the lower cla.s.s streets, the many carfully placed stones that made up it's pavement on full display.
Inside the manor's inner courtyard, voices could be heard. The courtyard was lit by lanterns which kept the approaching dark at bay.
"But I already know this stuff Miss Fei." Qin Zhenzhen grumbled as she sat on the soft gra.s.s. She was now 14 years of age, her body had still yet to develop but the beauty she inherited from her mother was beginning to show.
Qin Fei smiled causing the middle aged wrinkles on her face to deepen. "I'm not only teaching cultivation today young miss, I'm also teaching about the world in which we live so you might want to stick around, you may learn something new."
She was a middle aged woman with a healthy tan glow to her skin. She had a b.u.t.ton nose and thin lips with a kind and gentle expression. Her clothes were made up of a long purple robe with a matching skirt along with that, she wore a few silver bracelets and some phoenix shaped earings.
Qin Zhenzhen's eyes brightened. "Really? I haven't learned that yet!"
Qin Fei nodded her head and replied. "Yes indeed, now as I was saying. Culti-" Qin Fei noticed that the young boy beside Qin Zhenzhen was staring off into s.p.a.ce with an unfocused gaze. He was young around 8 years of age with beautiful long golden hair, s.h.i.+ning golden eyes and had pale skin and soft feminine features.
He was Qin Tian, the mysterious son of her master Qin Ruyan.
"Young Master? Are you listening?" Qin Fei called out.
Rong Xiaoman who was lost in thought quickly regained clarity and smiled. "I am Miss Fei."
She had quite enjoyed life in this other body although it was a surreal experience at first, she quickly got used to it. Her Mistress Ariel often let her control the incarnation, one of the reasons was- "Booty calls" Whatever that meant, Rong Xiaoman did not know. Other reasons was that her mistress was "Tired" or "Bored" So she got plenty of time with the incarnation.
As the years had pa.s.sed Rong Xiaoman had found herself becoming addicted to the this other life and deeply immersed in it.
Being a pampered child for once was something new for Rong Xiaoman considering her original upbringing was not happy at all. She never knew her family as she grew up an orphan, so having a doting mother and older sister filled her heart with warmth.
She also got to experience the feeling of having a childhood friend called Jiang Ying which was contrary to her friendless life from before, she lived in the neighboring manor and often came over to play. Apparently her incarnation's mother had arranged a marriage with the bubbly girl but Rong Xiaoman didn't have concrete confirmation on that.
Qin Fei continued. "Cultivation, the foundation of strength in our world....and strength is paramount if you want to live freely!"
Qin Zhenzhen fiddled with the frills of her dress, clearly not listening as she had heard all this before. Rong Xiaoman already knew everything but she didn't show it.
"Today young Master, I'm going to teach you the first stage of cultivation which is body tempering." Qin Fei closed her eyes as a light left her brow and entered Rong Xiaoman's.
As Rong Xiaoman sifted through the information she smiled. [Not as detailed as my own comprehensions but it is acceptable.]
"As you have seen young Master, you must sense and hold a wisp of Qi and then guide it towards your Qi sea. Once you have done so, you can start tempering your skin, muscles, organs, blood and bones in that order. It'll become easier as you absorb more and more Qi." Qin Fei explained to which Rong Xiaoman nodded thankfully.
"I'll expect you to have thoroughly finished the body tempering realm in the coming weeks young master, afterwards you'll start working on the resonance realm." Qin Fei said with expectation in her eyes.
She was curious as to how gifted this child was as it took Qin Zhenzhen 2 weeks to complete her body tempering and that's the average for those in the heaven realm. As comparison, the most gifted youths in the ancestral continent could take several months to finish their body tempering and that's with the help of special herbs and pills.
"Now then, I'll explain the various realms that make up our universe. This information is only available to the most powerful in the heaven realm.
The weak and those in the lower realms have no choice but to be blind to the wider world around them, only knowing the small areas they inhabit." Qin Fei gestured as she used her Qi to conjure a structure of light reminiscent to a hologram which formed a vague picture of the universe.
Qin Zhenzhen got comfortable by laying on her belly and cupping her delicate chin with both hands, her eyes sparkled as she listened.
