Was it a coincidence, or had Ben actually been reading that book? It wasn't something a five year old would understand. Was it chance then, that the book was kept open beside the boy?
Jim picked up two other hefty volumes that Ben had stacked up beside his head. They were both labelled 'Modern Physics Volume I and II'.
What in the world?!
Had Ben picked them up, because he liked the pictures in them or something? But once the young master had flipped through the pages, he saw that the book was plain text, with no pictures at all.
Could it be…!
Jim's eyes were a mixture of emotions, and he looked at the sleeping child with absolute interest and fascination. If it was what he thought it was, then he might have found a rare gem.
Jim was still stunned from the revelation, when he heard something fall in a room nearby. Frowning, he let go of the books, and walked inside a small parlour. Sure enough, he saw a young woman lying weirdly over a group of six neatly placed chairs.
This must be that girl Rebecca.
She was dressed neatly, except for the make up on her face, which was now smudged and her hair, which was dishevelled. Looking at her sprawled figure, Jim couldn't help but wonder where Miya had met this woman. Despite the woman's situation, Jim could tell that she was from a good background.
How had Miya come to be friends with her?
Meanwhile, Miya too had heard the sound and had hurriedly walked into the parlour.
She had thought that maybe Becky had woken up, but as it turned out, she had just turned to a side, and had ended up knocking a vase kept nearby. When Miya saw Jim look at Becky for a long time, she was instantly nervous.
"She's a nice person," Miya said, before she could stop himself.
Jim shot her an amused look.
"I didn't say she was not," he replied.
"She's very beautiful, isn't she?"
"Eh."
"Hey, she is!"
"Well… I guess. Wouldn't kick her out of bed."
Immediately, Miya's entire body was convulsing with censure.
"Pervert! Pervert! Pervert!" Her brain yelled. Who said stuff like that?!
This man was a huge pervert!
When Jim saw his wife's accusing eyes, he was delighted. Then with half a smirk, while still staring at Becky, he said, "Don't worry though. My type is still short and cute." He refrained from saying "Like you".
Wires fused in Miya's brain.
Flirt!
This man was flirting again!
She was suddenly reminded of his act when they were still in the Hunter mansion, and she was ready to kick his b.u.t.t. Just then, Jim pinched his own forehead, and chuckled. He decided to fix Becky's position, who seemed like she would fall face down to the floor now, when Miya saw what he was up to. Her eyes shot up, and with two stomping steps, she was standing before him defensively.
"You don't touch my friend!" she said in an accusing voice, while at the same time hastily pulling over Becky's body so that it was positioned properly.
Her protective gesture stimulated something in Jimmy. He sized her up a bit too expressly, and then said deeply, "It's not her that I want to touch, dear."
With that, the young master turned around and walked out of the parlour.
Miya's heart froze, and then started to pound fiercely against her chest.
W-W-What?!
What did he just say?!
S-Sh-She…
Once Jimmy had walked out, he felt oddly satisfied. He breathed a sigh of relief and looked at his watch. It was still only ten in the morning. There was still a long day left, and he wasn't really in the mood to walk back into the office for now. At least not for the next few hours. Then –
Yeah! Almost immediately, an idea struck Jim, and he quickly walked over to Ben, memorized the names of all the books that were lying around the boy, and then picked him up. Miya, who was red like a tomato, walked out of the parlour. When she saw Mr. Hunter lift Ben out of his chair though, all her confusion and heartthrob immediately withered away.
"What are you doing?" she hissed in a low voice, walking over to Jim, "He slept late at night, then got up early to read again. He just fell asleep! Let him be!"
Jimmy rolled his eyes.
"And do you see me waking him up?" he shot back, in an equally low voice.
Sure enough, the young master had picked up the kid, but he hadn't woken him up. Miya was dumbfounded. Jim didn't have time for that though.
"Here, help me with him," he quickly motioned to her "I can give kids a piggyback ride, but I don't know how to hold them."
Miya immediately walked over.
Then taking Ben from his arms, she raised her brows in question.
Jim smiled.
"I want to show you something," he said.
Miya was somewhat alarmed. She didn't mind going, but she couldn't leave Becky in this state, now, could she?
Jim read the confusion on her face. His answer was prepared.
"Your girl won't be up for several hours, four at the very least. Take that from experience. Lock the library, and before she's left that chair, I promise we'll be back here."
Miya was swayed. She too had been feeling quite suffocated in this place, ever since her talk with Rebecca last night. And if the young master was right, then there really was no harm in leaving.
Hesitantly, she nodded in agreement.
Seconds later, she was in Mr. Hunter's car. Thankfully, it wasn't a limousine, and she could enjoy the scenery outside. The only thing different this time though, was that Jimmy was driving, and she was seated beside him, with Ben in her arms.
She didn't really ask him where he was taking them. His words from before were still lingering on in her head.
Why? Why did the young master insist on behaving with her this way? Could she talk to him about it? Tell him to stop immediately, because it made her very uncomfortable? Miya frowned at the slight upbeat of her heart while she was thinking about the man. Maybe, she should tell him to behave.
Just then, she remembered the trick that he had played on her regarding the cigarettes. She glanced at him through the corner of her eyes. Jim was driving, looking relaxed, and humming to himself.
Miya's words were quiet.
"You know that I won't follow that cigarette thing I said, don't you?"
Jim raised his brows, and then looked at her, his expression pleased.
"Why not? You promised."
"It was just a slip of tongue!"
"Still a promise."
"… Okay, but how come you get to smoke two? In that case, you should promise the same to me too!"
"Hm. That's fair. You smoke two too. But not more. I swear the same."
Miya nodded satisfactorily. Just then, another question shot through her head.
"Hey," she began, "How did you know I'd say yes anyway? I mean, agree to not smoking, that is?"
Jim's chuckle was so deep, Miya immediately sulked. He laughed again.
"Don't be mad. You were just so rigorous in saying "Yes!" I thought, what the h.e.l.l, let's take the chance. You're my smart girl, I didn't really think you'd fall for it. But guess I was wrong. You did!"
Miya wrapped her arms around her baby boy and looked away.
She hadn't expected to fall for such a naïve trick anyway. It seemed like her brain functionality had been reduced to half these days. It was almost stupid.
Wait… She looked at Jim doubtfully.
Hmm…
Could naivety and idiocy actually be contagious? Had she caught it from this person?
Almost instantly, her brain replayed the young master's words in her head, and she remembered him referring to her as 'my smart girl'.
'My'.
d.a.m.n it, who the h.e.l.l was 'his' smart girl?!
That was it. She had to talk to this man!
Miya was the embodiment of revolt and disapproval, when Jim suddenly stopped the car. He then turned around, looking flushed with excitement.
"Miya," he said with a huge, satisfied smirk, "I booked the entire place, so there'd be no one else there today. It's going to be so much fun!" He then began to get out of the car.
Miya saw that they had stopped at the edge of a road that had a handrail fixed near the end. Beyond the handrail, were several steps leading somewhere below. It looked like the entrance of a cave.
Miya instantly panicked.
Wait a freaking second!
Where was Mr. Hunter taking her?!
Somehow, she didn't want to go anymore!
