"Holy G.o.ds!"
The instructor's entire face lit up as he'd probably never seen someone use this kind of magic before. Although I said that I shouldn't easily give in to his taunting, the instructor said that we must give everything we can, exactly what it sounds to entertain his strange way of a.s.sessing new students. Also, it shouldn't be wrong to give this battle a little entertainment. After all, this is just to make sure I 'm going to be admitted to the same cla.s.s with the daughter of the new lord. I heard that he's also a staff-bearer of elemental magic. I bet this is the reason why Sprigg chooses this kind of magical predispositions.
"Elemental magic: Light pillars of destruction!"
"... What in the world are you using? Is... Is that the power of heavens?" asked the instructor, with a stern look it mirrored terror and frustration. Really, I don't understand his expression when he asks me.
"Tell the instructor that this is one of your spells that can pierce the heaven."
According to what the other mage apprentices had said, staff-bearers specializing in nature magic could use advanced magic with elemental magic, and what I asked Sprigg to do was gather the necessary mana above to make this scene more interesting and compelling as I continue to act as I concentrate my mind on this so-called magic spell.
"No way, Sprigg!" I said, looking up to the sky and raising both of my hands as if I were praising the heavens. This is also my first time to see the lights in the dark night. Although, in a sense, this is only an empty spell, since Sprigg has said that invoking spell doesn't work on me, as I can command the mana by my own will. Still what I'm looking at is genuinely terrifying.
The first thing she did was to constantly guide the powerful gusts of the air streams ama.s.sing the mana of the water to build the scenic beauty of the ice in the darkness of the night. When the translucent and awe-inspiring ice in the atmosphere begins to change, the phenomenon that keeps it flicker is caused by the reflections from the steep, floating, elevated clouds.
"Each ice crystal in this kind of magic acts as a tiny mirror reflecting visible light just beyond the atmosphere, which is why it s.h.i.+nes brightly," she said.
"How much mana did you use to effectively make this spell, Sprigg?" I asked.
"Master, hardly two percent of the total excess reserves that were already available."
"What about the damage that this could potentially cause?"
"I strongly believe the instructor is going to be just fine with this kind of attack, as he's confident seeing himself as a magic knight, if that's what you're trying to ask, Master."
"If anything goes wrong, I might want to dissipate this magic, alright?"
"Agree." She laughed, and for the first time, some magic knight apprentices who were extremely loud and rowdy are now uncomfortably and unusually quiet. Perhaps just being commoner makes it almost impossible for them to applaud. Let me blunt to myself, I really don't need to cheer for me. What I'm doing is to be able to raise marks.
"Shall we end this match, Sprigg?"
"Gladly, master!"
The lights are slowly plummeting from the sky, like the tiny but somehow countless ice crystals illuminating the sky, which looks like glowing lances, eventually started to descend to where the instructor and I stand to be on guard. The instructor swiftly knelt down to the ground with his broad sword shoving into the ground, screaming his usual protection magic, and I waited patiently for him to finish his preparations.
I shut my eyes for the time being and ended up feeling everyone's presence to be certain that they were also taking appropriate steps to prevent against this attack, but since a few of them were only able to do so, I s.h.i.+fted the destination where these crystals eventually landed and made a ridiculously thin but strong wind barrier enclosing the raised platform so that it doesn't negatively affect the entire area and the individuals around us, where trainees and clerics were standing.
"Impact s.h.i.+eld!"
The moment the instructor chanted and invoked his defensive magic, I immediately summoned the magic to rain him down with the glowing ice crystals that were temporarily suspended that are above creating a sickening and splitting noise, but as it grazed the instructor's barrier, I reduced the mana violently attacking his barrier and dramatically increased its level of intensity on the outside to display it was as if a major powerful explosion had occurred and fumes began to erupt.
This time apparently, everyone here in my party of apprentices started shouting and rejoiced for the instructor who defended the attack easily and efficiently. Thanks to the wonders of my wind, which seems to be superior to his barrier, I can say that everyone has witnessed and has survived.
The instructor turned around and walked slowly towards me, and as I clenched tightly my staff, he said, "Impressive! Shall we continue, young wizard?"
"Does this man know no defeat at all, Master? He nearly died! Unbelievable!"
"Perhaps he's bound up with the thought of beating any candidate here, Sprigg. Just let it go. Besides, it is only a display of power."
I have indeed created two more wind cyclones as proof that I want to resume the skirmish but that's about it. It might leave a bad impression to withdraw, and at the same time, it might scratch his ego. I will just provide a chance to attack so it will end soon.
Effortlessly, without breaking any sweat, he dodged it and dashed towards me while he was still holding his sword at his waist. I felt the mana's disturbance projecting forward and running around as I keep messing with two wind cyclones aimlessly trying to destroy his way to take it. I think I've already shown that the strength I need to get a few more marks.
I was already trying to invoke another pair of wind spells and should have let him go. I lifted my staff, and he interrupted it with his sword, and then I suddenly felt a sharp blade in my neck. The instructor then discarded the swords. I could no longer hear the sounds, so I stopped and looked at my peers as humiliating as possible.
"Well fought, young wizard."
"I appreciate the match," I said, and then I bowed.
Not long after that, completely uncontrolled noises broke out from everyone from below raised platform and screamed the praises of the fight. They really are savages, and they enjoy a tough battle in this arena. This is why they are called n.o.ble knights. As I was about to get down, the instructor called Pomell and arrived at the same time as I was about to step down. I can already see that Oliver and his group are waving at me, and they all seem to enjoy it as well.
"If it wasn't for Cedany, I thought you were trying to set the standards for these battles. That was a close fight." Pomell said as he stepped on the stairs and extended his hand.
"Defeat the instructor for me," I asked, and I took his hand.
"I'm definitely going to try," he said, and we sn.i.g.g.e.red.
I hurriedly went to the banners where everyone was anxiously waiting to see how Pomell would be fighting, but before that happened, all the mage apprentices marched like a creature being offered a delicious meal to the raised platform while Thea attempted to heal me, I said, "No need."
"let's see, you sound and look like a stupid kid who doesn't want to reveal what his weapon was, and now you refuse to allow Thea to heal you?" Arabella said angrily.
"That was a fair fight, Twig! Oh, should I just call you Lemure now?" Roe went on to say loudly.
"Right! Will you explain that to us?" Arabella asks.
Thea looked somehow slightly concerned and said it was going to be quick. In addition, I have also received treatment from the clerics. She just wants to make sure that my body is all better and that there are no hidden injuries that were caused when I was battling with the instructor.
"She's always like that, just accept the treatment of my sister, Twig. She's not planning to come back down if you're not treated with her healing magic. Besides, that's her a.s.sessment."
"G-glow—?!" Thea exclaimed.
"I know."
"that was indeed an excellent match!" Oliver lauded.
"See!" Roe exalted, and he mounted his arm around my neck.
I don't think that they will put me into the pedestal after they witnessed how I fight or is it just me? Is this how family treat each other? That feeling that I seem to long even before. Perhaps I just miss my family. For the time being, what is important is that I carry out my task of protecting the daughter of the new lord while finding a way to find them.
"Gale blades!"
Not long after they had finally done bowing, the instructor began his usual friendly greeting of sending two wind blades, but Pomell wasn't even there, he was floating. As I can see, he propelled himself upward, like using the magic of the wind.
