Part Wolf 54 Chapter 54: Who's Controlling Them?

With a huge crack, the s.h.i.+eld gave away as the creature lunged towards her.

Elize held her breath, reading herself for the right moment. As the beast's claws were almost about to reach her, she ducked, rolling fast towards where she hoped the gap in the barrier was. Without much effort, she slid in through the hole and onto the other side of the Island. Elze shuddered at the sound. She looked back as she heard a deafening growl from where the creature was standing. It looked at her with crazed eyes as it growled threateningly, once more. Suddenly its gaze landed on a spot somewhere behind her. After giving her one last threatening look, it disappeared back into the witch's side of the Island in a hurry.

Confused, Elize looked back, all the while struggling to get up. Behind her was the beginning of the pack's territory. She spotted a tall figure walking towards her hurriedly through the forest growth. Her heartbeats started increasing at the sight of the man in the white s.h.i.+rt and blue jeans. Relief washed over her features as she recognized her mate. She smiled, extending a hand towards him.

"Elize?!" Zack asked, surprised.

"Babe." Elie said with much warmth.

Zack quickly bent down and supported her to stand up. Elize slowly stood up, leaning on to her mate. The mere touch of his skin on her skin ignited a fire in her that was all consuming. Her gaze landed on his moist lips. She wanted to bite on them until they bled. Intending to do so, she tried to raise herself standing on her toes. Pain shot up from different parts of her body, as the slight moment had stretched the wound. She grunted in frustration as she weakly fell onto his chest.

"What the h.e.l.l happened to you Elize?!" He asked, panic gripping his voice.

Elize sniffled, tears threatening to pour down from her eyes.Zackheld her away from him, to take a better look at her. His eyes roamed around her body till it finally landed on the gaping wound on her shoulder. She saw his face quickly changing to a shocked expression as he stared at the blood oozing out from it. A low growl erupted from his throat, in frustration. Elize quivered in a sense of helplessness as her mate looked at her with pained eyes.

"I'm sorry." He whispered, a tear running down his left eye.

"Zack please…"

She reached out to wipe his tear with her right hand. But Zack caught it quickly and brought it to his forehead. Lowering his face and covering it with the back of her hand, he sobbed.

"I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you." Zack said, his voice breaking.

Elize could feel his body shaking. She wanted to embrace him, but her shoulder hurt way too much for her to even move an inch. Moreover, the shaking was making her wounds stretch once again. She winced in pain.

"Zack it's okay. Please stop crying. Let's go home." She said, through clenched teeth.

The pain in her voice drew his attention back to her wound. Taking a deep breath in, he quickly tore a piece of his s.h.i.+rt and extended it towards her wound. Elize took a step back in fear. She didn't want anyone to touch her wound. It was already paining so hard. She was sure that she couldn't bear more. She was disgusted with the lack of pain tolerance that came with her loss of powers. If only she had her powers.. Elize thought sadly.

"Hold still." Zack commanded with a condescending tone.

Elize crunched her face in protest. She said, "I don't need it bandaged. We can find some herbs after we each home. Let's just-"

Before she could finish the sentence, Zack pulled her towards him and in a flash wrapped the cloth around her wound. His quick and efficient movements left her stunned for a moment. Did he just? The pain hit her suddenly as the final knot was tied. Elize hissed at the pressure the bandage was exerting on the wound.

"There. It's done." Zack said, patting her head.

Elize glared at him in reply. But deep inside, she was relieved that he made the decision for her. She knew that she didn't have it in her to ask for the pain herself. At least not when she was a weak human.

"Now tell me. What happened to you." Zack asked, checking for more wounds on her body.

"A beast.."

His hands traveled down her neck gently, the touch sending white hot desire into her. She moaned biting down on her lips.

"f.u.c.k." Zack swore suddenly and took a step back.

Elize turned back in surprise. Zack was clutching the front of his jeans with an irritated look. Her eyes widened at the sight of a huge b.u.mp straining against the palm of his hands. As her gaze traveled back to his face, he looked away from her, embarra.s.sed. Elize chuckled. Was the mighty Alpha embarra.s.sed?

"Zack it's okay." She said, laughing.

Zack shook his head. "No. You don't understand it's-"

It was right at that moment that a long howl pierced the air. It was followed by dozens of others. Elize looked at the direction of the wolf territory. Her brows creased in confusion. Were other wolves around the area? Was everyone in the pack doing a group hunt or something? She looked towards Zack for explanation and was met with an eye roll.

"I knew that they'd find you soon enough." He said shaking his head.

"Huh?"

"I'll tell you later. Now get on."

"I don't understand." Elize asked, c.o.c.king her head to the side.

Instead of replying, Zack quickly s.h.i.+fted.

'Come. We need to go. Now!' He said through their mind link, a sense of urgency in it.

'Is there any problem Zack?' She asked, jumping on to his back.

'Not if we leave before they arrive. Now hold on tight.' He replied, rubbing the ground.

Before she could ask him to explain, he took off deep into the forest with her clutching on to his fur tightly. This time, there was no s.h.i.+eld to protect her from the wind that was lapping at her face. Elize stuck her body as close as she could to his back and laid her head in between his shoulders. She didn't understand what was happening and why her mate was panicking like this. She peeked at the direction at which they were moving. If her memory was right, this was the path that led to the stream with the cave.

'Are we not going to the pack house?' She asked, confused.

'No.'

'Why?'

Zack growled in reply. Elize crunched her face with an irritation. Did he just growl at her?! Suddenly she heard barks from behind them. She looked back in surprise. There were at least ten to fifteen wolves behind them, all trying to catch up to them. She realized that Zack didn't just growl at her. He was growling at the wolves in warning.

'Zack! Who are they?!' She asked through their link.

'Our pack.'

'What?! Then why are they chasing us?!'

'Because they are in a crazed stage.'

'Huh?'

Elize looked back again, narrowing her eyes at the wolves that were following them. Zack was right, she thought. There was something wrong with them. All of them had a frenzied appearance. How did this happen? The first thought that came to her mind was the creature from her nightmares. Was it controlling them?

'Who's controlling them?' She asked turning back to Zack. Her eyes watered due to the force of the wind that was. .h.i.tting her face.

'l.u.s.t.' He replied in an annoyed tone, jumping over a huge root.

Elize clutched his fur tightly, afraid to slip off from his back. What did he mean by that? She thought. Does that mean that these wolves were not controlled by that ugly gray monster? She was relieved at the information. But as realization hit in, she started panicking. Was it her that all these wolves wanted?! Elize shuddered at the thought of her being at the mercy of more than a dozen huge werewolves.

'It's going to be okay.' Zack rea.s.sured her, sensing her distress.

'But why?' She asked, confused.

She didn't remember anything like this happening before. Moreover so many people hated her in the pack. Now they're willing to chase their Alpha to get her?! Why was this happening? She pondered, as her eyes kept spanning around them in fear. If it is true, then wasn't she putting Zack in danger? Her gaze suddenly landed on a gray wolf running towards them from their right. Zack increased his pace further as the wolves started getting too close.

Elize's eyes remained fixed on the wolf on their right. It was jumping over fallen branches and ducking trees at lighting speed. It was almost impossible for her to keep her eyes trained on it without feeling dizzy. Suddenly the wolf jumped at them, its claws elongating.

"Zack look out!" She screamed, clutching at his neck desperately.
