After the boat reached the riverbank, she would often turn to gaze behind her. True enough, that man had followed her across the river.

However, she was very disappointed when she did not see him again upon turning her head to check again. With a sinking feeling, she wondered if she had read too much into his actions. She had a.s.sumed that he was stalking her.
