Chapter 69: It Was an Accident

The sky brightened, and the birds that stood perched on the branches began to sing.

Fike rubbed his sleepy eyes before stretching. It was already morning.

He hadn't slept well last night.

His dreams had been about everything that had happened over the past few days.

After was.h.i.+ng up simply, he got dressed and left the dorm.

Along the way, he spotted many students rus.h.i.+ng about in school uniforms. Only then did he realize that he had forgotten to change into his own.

However, by now, it was too late to go back and change.

He cringed as he decided to bite the bullet, and went on ahead to the cla.s.sroom.

Fike walked into the mage cla.s.s, finding a seat at random before sitting down.

Just as he did, he noticed that Zelle had also entered after him.

They looked at each other tacitly, but did not communicate as the girl deliberately chose a seat far away from him.

'It seems that this Zelle doesn't like me very much,' Fike thought to himself.

'Forget it, I don't have time to worry about these pointless things.'

Scanning the room with the hidden information, Fike noticed that the average qualities and levels of the mage students in this cla.s.s were not very high.

The highest was only platinum, while the weakest was still only bronze.

A few minutes later, a tall female teacher with curly hair strutted in.

She wore high heels, and a set of professional-looking clothes that made her look very young. However, even so, they could not hide the wrinkles at the corner of her eyes.

Judging from her appearance, Fike guessed that she was around thirty-five years old.

The female teacher looked around the cla.s.s, as if she was deliberately looking for someone.

Finally, her gaze landed on Fike as she smiled at him.

“Roll call now!

“Zelle.”

“Here!”

Zelle raised her hand and called out indifferently.

After a long list of names, Fike's was finally called.

“Fike.”

He raised his hand and answered.

“Here!”

Just as he opened his mouth, many of the students in the cla.s.s turned to look at him.

Fike was puzzled. He did not understand why he had become the center of attention.

“So he's Fike!”

“Yeah, yeah, and he's quite handsome!”

“Look at how weak he looks. He actually defeated Blue? It's unbelievable.”

“What nonsense are you spouting? You call that 'defeated'? He practically destroyed him, okay?”

Amidst the chatter of the other students, Zelle's face revealed a hint of displeasure.

As Fike listened to their remarks, he could not help but sigh in his heart.

'Seems like yesterday's matter has indeed been overblown.'

However, he barely remembered yesterday's match himself. After all, he had not even exerted one-tenth of his strength. It had essentially been a warm-up exercise for him.

Seeing the students talking noisily among themselves, the female teacher spoke.

“Everyone, quiet down!”

She continued to call out names.

“Irene.”

At the name, the cla.s.sroom was completely silent.

“Is Irene here?”

Seeing that no one responded to her, the teacher made a note on the name list.

Suddenly, the cla.s.sroom doors were shoved open.

“Here! Irene is here!”

Fike turned to look at the girl at the door.

The girl had pink hair that fell to her waist, with a standard oval shaped face and long eyelashes on her bright eyes. Her high nose bridge and cherry-like small mouth gave her a somewhat angry look.

The cla.s.s burst into stifled laughter.

Looking at the slightly embarra.s.sed Irene, the teacher called out.

“Come in quickly!”

The girl shuffled embarra.s.sedly into the cla.s.sroom.

She then took a seat beside Fike.

Finished with reading out their names, the teacher proceeded to address the cla.s.s.

“h.e.l.lo, students. I will be your cla.s.s teacher for the next four years. My name is Maggie.

“Our cla.s.s is mage cla.s.s two. Your goal for the next four years will be to improve your level and master new spells. Besides that, you have one more important thing to do.

The students began to whisper among themselves at these words.

Maggie continued.

“Your priority should be to get first place in the graduation exams!”

Awkward expressions hung on the students' faces as they heard this.

“But please don't be too burdened. You still have four years, which is plenty of time. As long as you follow my instructions, it won't be difficult for you to get first place in the exams.”

Truthfully, the students had not been worried about their own strengths, but rather the potential power of the others among them.

Maggie continued.

“Let me establish the cla.s.s rules. As the saying goes, without rules, there is no order. Those who didn't wear uniforms, stand up.”

Fike stood up, followed by a few others one after another.

“Now, all of you can go to the field and run 50 laps before coming back! Go! Right now, right now!”

The cla.s.s teacher, Maggie, flexed her authority as soon as she could.

The atmosphere in the cla.s.sroom, which had been quite carefree, suddenly became quiet.

Maggie continued.

“Irene, you run 50 laps with them too.”

Her eyes flew wide open and her face turned slightly red as she protested.

“I'm wearing the school uniform. Why do I have to run with them?”

Maggie's tone became stern.

“Don't you know the reason? Do you really need me to tell you?”

Sensibly, Irene stood up and walked out of the cla.s.sroom.

Fike followed everyone downstairs.

There were more than twenty unlucky students who hadn't worn school uniforms. Meanwhile, only less than ten remained in the cla.s.sroom.

As they arrived at the field, Fike vacantly followed along, staying in the middle of the group as they ran.

Along the way, a few of his cla.s.smates greeted him warmly.

“You must be Fike, the genius who defeated Blue yesterday. It's nice to meet you!”

“Fike, Fike, is that Blue really that weak? I heard that he didn't manage to hurt you at all.”

Fike answered their inquisitiveness politely.

However, he also vaguely overheard some unfriendly voices.

“He just goes and beats a guy at the start of the semester? What a show-off!”

“Yeah, yeah, it's not like he beat an Overlord-tier Exotic Beast. How dare he pretend to be such a pro? Ridiculous!”

“Look at him, you can tell he's a gigolo just by looking at him.”

“Yeah, I heard that he hooked up with Jasmine as soon as he arrived. How detestable!”

Fike was a little lost for words as he listened to their antagonistic remarks, but he had no intention of arguing.

At this moment, Irene approached him and asked, “I heard that your cla.s.s isn't mage. Why did you come to our Mage Cla.s.s then?”

Fike wasn't surprised at the question. Since yesterday, he already had a premonition that someone would definitely be curious about this.

So, he answered simply.

“I guess it was an accident.”
