With a m.u.f.fled sound, the black thunderflame struck, but unlike sticking to the Yuan Qi s.h.i.+eld as before, it went right through it like paper and straight for his flesh.

Shangguan Feiyun panicked in fear, overwhelmed by the power of the thunderflame going beyond his expectation.

What Shangguan Yulin had demonstrated through his detonation was the thunderflame’s intrinsic power, not when it was used as a skill like now.

As for the Thunderflame Void Annihilation, that was Zhuo Fan combining his two ultimate skills, to break any kind of obstacle and letting the thunderflame’s deadly nature capitalize on its true power.

What could a measly Yuan Qi s.h.i.+eld amount to when it could cut through the Shangguan clan’s 12th grade array made with all their experts?

With fear vivid in his look and with terror in his heart, Shangguan Feiyun rushed to dodge this deadly move.

This in turn affected his aim on the sword that was meant for Zhuo Fan, leading to it shooting someplace else and leveling another fifty miles area, turning into a dust storm.

The destructive black thunderflame streaked past his shoulder and far beyond. Shangguan Feiyun felt its vibrant and burning power as it pa.s.sed, making his blood run cold. 

The amount of times the great best in eastern lands, now a Sword King, felt such unfiltered terror from his incredibly close brush with death could be counted on one hand.

It was far too soon to relax though, as sizzling jarred his ears. He whipped his head around and the view had his legs feeling like jelly.

The deadly black flames were on his clothes and were eating their way to his body.

Shangguan Feiyun shook at once and used Yuan Qi to shake the clothing off, making the flames die out as the remnants of clothing burned out.

Then another sound entered his ears and watched as Zhuo Fan with young Sanzi in his arms appeared again in front. His left eye was filled with violent black flames while his right shone in two golden halos, planning to make a repeat of the previous move.  

But the horror had been too memorable for Shangguan Feiyun the first time to allow it to happen again.

Not even facing death felt so horrible. Shangguan Feiyun saw Zhuo Fan appearing and jumped back with no delay, ten kilometers in fact.

When he finally sensed some semblance of safety, he eased a breath he didn’t know he was holding, feeling drained as if from a fight with Invincible Sword. He gasped for breath, his feeble legs barely keeping him from falling. There was even a conspicuous change in color on Sword King Shangguan’s pants, quite obvious to any observer…

Baili Jingwei and Danqing Shen had their jaws hanging.

[Come on, Sword King Feiyun! You’re supposed to be a Sword King, so what are you doing looking so worn out after an exchange with a puny Radiant Stage cultivator? What a scandal! Your top is naked for having your clothes ruined and your lower half wet from being scared to death by a measly Radiant Stage alchemist!]

Baili Jingwei’s mouth twitched, anger clearly showing. Just as he was about to curse, he then understood the thunderflame’s fatal danger.

So Prime Minister looked heavily at the panting Zhuo Fan, “Gu Yifan wasn’t just making wild boasting when he said he’d fight a Sword King.”

“This kid is truly frightening.”

Danqing Shen nodded, “The black flame’s power can kill a Sword King. If only he was a bit stronger, then that attack…”

He stopped, hearing the snapping of Baili Jingwei’s knuckles and his heavy tone, “There’s no way he’ll get any stronger. First I wanted to kill him because I wanted to but now it’s for the safety of the empire. There can only be one Invincible Sword in this world. There’s no room for a second dreaded existence!”

Danqing Shen’s brow shook, his eyes flas.h.i.+ng.

[The boy’s too outstanding. And then there’s that black flame that can threaten a Sword King from as weak as a Radiant Stage. He may, no, will become, the second Invincible Sword!]

[Baili Jingwei is sure to even disregard the Soaring Sword if it means killing him.]

Danqing Shen held his beard, deep in thought…

Shangguan Feiyun was looking worse for wear. Then the anger exploded from him as he glared at Zhuo Fan with bloodthirst.

[I’ll not stand this punk for drawing another breath after that humiliation!]

Shangguan Feiyun brought his fingers out and struck with another sword. He no longer looked casual, but focused like when fighting an equal, while keeping his senses sharp for any disturbance within a kilometer, just in case.

Zhuo Fan sighed.

[I know I’m still too weak to deal with a Sword King. Any other Genesis Stage cultivator would’ve burned alive by now.]

After attacking a Sword King, if the first time failed, the second time would never present itself.

Though it all fell within his parameters, thus taking the sensible option and bolting.

Baili Jingwei and Danqing Shen did not follow, knowing Zhuo Fan was Shangguan Feiyun’s prey. He was not about to let this guy escape!

“He-he-he, it’s a bit late for that!”

Shangguan Feiyun snickered out of reflex, his fingers s.h.i.+ning as he unleashed a world-shaking surge of power. No matter how far Zhuo Fan got, it would still kill him.

This was the terrible power of a Sword King. Zhuo Fan could shake him with his earlier display of thunderflame, but that was all he could muster.

Shangguan Feiyun was more clear on this than any as he spoke after calming down, “Humph, Gu Yifan, I got to hand it to you, you’re a real genius. You’ve excelled in strength and in alchemy. That flame of yours had me running scared there and given time, you might kill me one day, becoming the next overlord to this world. Too bad you showed yourself so soon and you won’t get the chance, I’ll make sure of it. That black flame is only useful if it touches me. Gu Yifan, you have no chance now!”

Shangguan Feiyun swiped his fingers and the Soaring Sword Art was deployed in the form of a third sword, straight for Zhuo Fan and his son.

Whoosh~

The edge was behind him in a flash.

Zhuo Fan looked back in shock and used the five s.h.i.+ning halos in his right eye, “Divine Eye of the Void’s 5th stage, Thunderflame Wall times five!”

The black thunderflame appeared once more, forming five layers in total, to block the incoming sword.

Shangguan Feiyun gaped, not expecting Zhuo Fan to come up with that, using the strange black flame as defense. 

It would’ve worked wonders if it were anyone else than a Sword King.

Boom!

The walls disintegrated in a flash, turning into motes of black fire as they faded in the air. Zhuo Fan shook and spat blood from the strong aftershock, both of his eyes were also bleeding.

As for the sword energy, it still went for Zhuo Fan.

“Ha-ha-ha, Gu Yifan, even with that oddity helping you, with your power, you have no…”

Shangguan Feiyun cackled victoriously, but then he choked, turning incredulous, “W-what the h.e.l.l? My sword energy…”
