Chapter 129 - Finding a New Place (1)
Compared to the bustling scenes over the last few days, the shop was much quieter now. They’ve only done 200 yuan of business in the morning. Shu Yan noticed the embarra.s.sed look on Zhang Huaxiu and Yingying and chuckled. “Don’t feel bad. Business will get better over the weekend.”
The two of them exchanged a look. Zhang Huaxiu was quite impressed that Shu Yan could remain so calm. “Boss Lady, should we do another round of promotional activities?”
“Activities are activities because they are few and in between. We can’t do it all the time. This is what normal looks like. Go look at the other shops on this block, who has a lot of customers every day?” Shu Yan recalled seeing those liquidation sales in the past. Everyday it was a liquidation sale. Everybody figured out that it was fake after a while.
The two who had been running around like top spins were not used to having free time. Shu Yan had the two of them remove the stuff that was stuck by the door and wrote another hiring sign. If only she could find a store manager, her life would be much easier.
There wasn’t much business in the afternoon, so Shu Yan left with Tianbao after she had finished with bookkeeping. When she got back to the motel, the boss stopped her.
“Are you still looking for a place to stay?”
“I am. It is not easy to find a decent place.” Shu Yan had stayed at this motel since the first day she arrived at City Nan and had become more familiar with the boss and the boss lady. Sometimes, they’d chitchat and the boss and boss lady had learned about Shu Yan’s rental being taken back abruptly.
“Maybe you can rent my place.” The boss knew the difficulty that Shu Yan faced having two children with her. “I have a flat in the back alley. Me and my wife mostly stay here and rarely ever go back. You can stay there for a few months.”
“Oh, thank you so much!” That was an unexpected pleasant surprise. Shu Yan, with Tianbao in tow, went with the boss lady to check out the place. The boss lady was very friendly and told Shu Yan a lot about Zhu Hung.
“That Zhu Hung might seem like she was smiling at you all the time, but her smile was never sincere. She likes to b.u.t.ter up to those above her and walk over those beneath her. When her husband’s parents were young, she always addressed them as ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ pa.s.sionately. Now that they are old and sick, she was the first to change the tune. Luckily, the couple has another daughter and she had taken them away to live with her. Long story short, we have all seen through her now and don’t like to be a.s.sociated with her. It was very unfortunate for you to have rented her place.”
“Not too unfortunate. Didn’t I run into nice people like you and the boss? There are still more nice people in the world,” said Shu Yan with a smile.
“We just can’t stand by and watch anymore. Plus, you only needed to stay for a few months. It won’t work in the long run. My son will be returning over the winter holidays and will need to stay there.” The boss lady reminded her.
“I understand. My place is almost done and I will be able to move in by the end of the year. You and the boss must come to my housewarming then.” Shu Yan extended her invitation with a smile.
She now understood deeply the importance of networking. Relations.h.i.+ps were necessary in society. They were no longer like kids that only see things in black and white. Now, she could also understand why her parents still maintained their relations.h.i.+ps with the relatives that they didn’t get along.
The flat was very similar to the one that Shu Yan had rented previously, but the finish was completely different. After all, the boss and boss lady had been living in this place and it was well furnished and very clean.
There were two rooms in the flat. One belonged to the couple and one to their son. Their son was attending college in a different town and only came back during holidays.
