Chapter 35

Bai Yang had a wonderful dream. In his dream, he returned home, where his Mom and Dad were both waiting for him. When they saw him, his Mom rushed to him and comforted him for a while. His Dad was standing to one side, a small smile on his face. His brother walked down from upstairs and said to Bai Yang, “You finally came back! We’ve waited for so long.”
Then the dream ended and Bai Yang awoke suddenly. Once conscious, he noticed he was laying on a soft bed.
He opened his eyes and was dazed for a long time before he realized he’d been dreaming.
I didn’t actually die?
His body trembled gently.
Looking around, he was in a small and narrow room. The windows on both sides were open and curtains hung from above.
After looking for awhile, Bai Yang realized he wasn’t in a room, but a carriage.
He sat up and rubbed his forehead to relieve his headache. He remembered the Demon King of Eternal Night catching him and almost sucking his energy dry. What happened after that?
He had no idea.
Since I’ve woken up, the Demon King must have woken up at the last minute. So I escaped from death?
That must be it.
After being awake for a while, Bai Yang remembered something— his magic!
Bai Yang tried to summon his magic, but no matter what he tried, not even a speck of magic would be seen. His Dantian and meridians were empty. There was nothing inside.
Bai Yang began to panic. It couldn’t be. He didn’t die, but he became useless, instead?
Bai Yang’s regret for saving the Demon King became deeper and deeper. He regretted approaching the Demon King that night. He should have just left and let Zhong Shuo stand guard. Then, not only would he be the hero, but he also would have come out unscathed.
Why did he obediently stay there?
The more he thought, the more unwilling he became to accept his situation.
Now that he was powerless, how would he finish his mission?
“Xiao Ling, what should I do now? I don’t have even a sliver of magic, how am I going to finish my mission?” If he lost his strength, he might not be able to cross the pa.s.sageway between the Human and Demon Realms. Then, how would he save the Male Lead from such a dangerous world so he could smoothly soar through it?
“Sir, don’t panic. In the novel, Xie Ze Tian has great military prowess, so his martial art skills haven’t vanished.”
“But didn’t you say that before that this world’s future isn’t static, and that accidents can still happen?”
Xiao Ling seemed unsure about how to respond. “This…”
Bai Yang took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. He thought for a moment before his expression turned icy cold. “The Demon King turned me into trash. He has to take responsibility for this.”
The Demon King wanted to walk away from Bai Yang after sucking up all his magic? Not a chance!
Xiao Ling said, “Right, go look for him. He has to have a way to help you recover.”
Just as he decided to settle the score, the curtains parted and the Demon King’s usually cold face appeared, a small smile on his lips. “You’re awake?”
He didn’t know if it was just an illusion, but Bai Yang thought his smile looked… affectionate.
Speak of the devil and he appears. Suddenly faced with the debt collector, Bai Yang hadn’t thought about what to say, so his expression changed for a moment. His voice lowered and said, “My magic is gone.”
There was a fire smothered in his heart, but, unfortunately, showing anger wouldn’t be wise. Getting angry would not only negate his previous credit, but also make the Demon King unhappy. Li Yu’s death proved to Bai Yang that the Demon King still had a little bit of a conscience. He could only comfort himself by thinking that people who rescue others shouldn’t contend with those without a conscience. However, that didn’t mean he’d forget the Demon King’s cruel and ambitious ways. If Bai Yang really dared to obstruct the Demon King, he’d end up like the Western Demon Lord.
So Bai Yang didn’t let the Demon King see that he, himself, was furious.
“I looked into it for you; it’s only temporary.” The Demon King of Eternal Night said. “Under my guidance, you’ll recover after resting for a while.”
That’s to say, it could be healed?
Bai Yang’s complexion became slightly better.
But he still had to rest for a while?
In other words, I won’t be able to go to the Human Realm?
At once, Bai Yang’s mood fell.
The Demon King seemed to perceive his bad mood and pondered for a moment. “Do you feel unwell?”
Bai Yang didn’t dare to say ‘I’m upset with you’, so he only half-heartedly nodded.
The Demon King lowered the curtains and, after a moment, Bai Yang felt the carriage stop. Immediately after, the large curtain in front of him parted and the Demon King entered.
The carriage wasn’t very big, so once he came it, it felt claustrophobic.
The Demon King’s foot accidentally touched Bai Yang’s, so Bai Yang s.h.i.+fted his body uncomfortably.
The Demon King reached out, grabbed him by the shoulders, and softly said, “Don’t move.”
Bai Yang’s body went stiff, before he relaxed and stayed motionless.
When the Demon King had grabbed him and sucked the energy from him, it had caused a psychological shadow to form in Bai Yang’s heart.
He didn’t know what the Demon King wanted to do, but it would be better to not disobey him.
The Demon King took Bai Yang’s hand and, a moment later, magic was released from his palm. It was like a warm river gently flowing along Bai Yang’s meridians, moisturizing and revitalizing his dried out meridians everywhere it went.
Bai Yang felt himself recover a little bit of magic.
It was only after a while that the Demon King released his hand. “Is it a little better now?”
“Much better.” Bai Yang said, honestly.
“The reason you lost your energy is because I absorbed most of your magic, causing your meridians to give out. When we return to the Palace of Eternal Darkness, stay in the Spirit Spring. You’ll recover in half a month.”
The Spirit Spring!
Bai Yang remembered that when he was injured, the Demon King had arranged for him to recover in the Palace of Eternal Darkness’s Spirt Spring. That hot spring was full of spirit energy. If you soaked in it, it could quickly nourish meridians and recover your magic.
Once he remembered, Bai Yang couldn’t sit still.
“Your Highness, the carriage is too slow. Why don’t we teleport back to the Palace of Eternal Darkness?”
In this kind of magic society where you could just fly or teleport around, riding a carriage was rare. It was only during war when by sheer numbers, people would be forced to slowly march on foot.
“Your body is too weak for teleportation.” the Demon King said.
“Your Highness, I can endure it.” Bai Yang said, “I want to recover sooner.”
The Demon King furrowed his brows before relaxing again. “Fine, I’ll take you ahead first.”
He pet Bai Yang’s shoulders in a comforting gesture before walking out.
The Demon King’s and Zhong Shuo’s voices resonated from outside the carriage.
“Zhong Shuo, I’m returning to the Palace of Eternal Darkness in advance. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
“Your Highness!” Zhong Shuo’s surprise showed in his voice. “You’re returning in advance? What about FireThorn City?”
“Has their envoy arrived?”
“No, they’re still on their way.”
“If they arrive, take care of them in my stead. Be sure to send them back to the Palace of Eternal Darkness.”
Bai Yang leaned against the carriage wall to listen. He’d already heard about the FireThorn City matters. The Demon Realm wasn’t under total control by the Demon King of Eternal Night. Some other special governments still exists, and FireThorn City was one of them.
FireThorn City was very strange in that it didn’t exist in reality. If you saw the city from a distance, you’d still never be able to enter it. Even if you tried to attack the city, there would be nowhere to start. The people inside rarely came out, yet they possessed strange abilities, so they had always been an attractive force others wanted to ally with. The Demon King of Eternal Night had been trying to win them over, by any means. He’d sent an invitation every year for ten years, and this time the FireThorn City actually accepted.
What Bai Yang didn’t expect was that the Demon King would give up receiving the FireThorn City’s envoys just for him.
Bai Yang’s mood was a little complicated.
