Chapter 179: Talk Cancelled?
Chen Mo was shocked, “Her? Designer?”
Saury crossed her leg, “What’s wrong with me being a designer?”
“Aren’t you the lead dancer for Emperor Dynasty Entertainment?”
Saury nodded, “Yeah, leader dancer and game designer.”
Chen Mo was confused, “That’s my first time I’ve heard of a crossover like that.”
Saury laughed, “Is it that weird that a videogame designer happens to be a dancer too? Aren’t you a songwriter?”
Chen Mo squinted, “That is true…”
Qiu Hengyang laughed, “Stop messing with him, Qiu Jiang. How come an S-grade videogame designer from Emperor Dynasty Entertainment like you aren’t eating with the others from your company, but choosing to have your lunch with us instead?”
Chen Mo was shocked to hear her name, “Qiu Jiang?”
Saury nodded, “Yeah, that’s my real name. Saury is my stage name.”
Chen Mo was dumbfounded, you should’ve said earlier! No wonder the staff at the convention followed all your orders!
Of course Chen Mo knew who Qiu Jiang was. She was an S-grade videogame designer at Emperor Dynasty Entertainment. Moon Lord’s Prophecy was her creation, which was on the same level as Legend of the Sword.
Qiu Jiang was one of the top designers over at Emperor Dynasty Entertainment, someone even Lin Chaoxu was willing to bow down to.
However, there weren’t many photos of Qiu Jiang and Chen Mo didn’t care to search for them either. Moreover, Qiu Jiang’s nametag during the convention was ‘Saury’, how could he have known it was her stage name?
Qiu Jiang looked at Qiu Hengyang with a fruit in her mouth, “This is the awards ceremony, it’s not like we have to stick together just because we are the same company. I like hanging out with you two anyways, is there a problem with that?”
Qiu Hengyang and Chen Mo were speechless.
Qiu Jiang continued, “Or do you think that I’m here to get some industry secret from you two? The both of you are just some B-grade designers, I should be the one who should be wary.”
“We are both A-grade designers now,” a.s.serted Qiu Hengyang.
“Oh, A-grade,” Qiu Jiang let out a sly smile, “Congratulations.”
“That didn’t feel nice at all!” said Qiu Hengyang.
Qiu Jiang spread out her hands, “It’s mainly because the others at Emperor Dynasty Entertainment are like a piece of rock, they are so boring. I feel like I’m going to drag myself down to their level if I talk to them anymore than I need to.”
Chen Mo replied after a few moments, “Alright, do as you wish. Otherwise, you’d think we were up to something.”
The three of them chatted as they ate. Qiu Jiang was one of those quiet times that listened more than they spoke, adding their thoughts occasionally just to show their interest in the topic. However, Chen Mo could feel that she wasn’t like the other B-grade video game designers here, and was obviously much smarter.
However, Chen Mo wasn’t nervous because of this. She’s just an S-grade videogame designer, I’ll be a S-grade videogame designer in two years!
Soon, the three of them finished their meal, and continued with the activities after some coffee.
“I have a talk, do you guys want to join?” suggested Qiu Jiang.
Chen Mo nodded, “Sure.”
Chen Mo didn’t really care as these talks didn’t really do much for him.
Qiu Jiang’s topic was ‘How to make good use of fantasy IP in large games’, going through some things she experienced during Moon Lord’s Prophecy’s development.
There were so many attendees that all the seats were taken, there were even some standing just to listen to the talk. Luckily, Qiu Jiang managed to get Chen Mo and Qiu Hengyang front row seats.
This was fantasy IPs were quite the hot topic in China as of late as it seemed like it had potential to surpa.s.s Xianxia. There was a lot more freedom with fantasy themes and Chinese fantasy IPs happened to be quite capable too. Games like Moon Lord’s Prophecy and Demon Slayers were both based on popular Chinese novels.
Qiu Jiang was calm and concise, completely owning the stage. She also managed her time really well, not a minute over or under the time limit.
The audience gave back to the talk with huge applause.
“Incredible, she’s the best of the best alright. The perspectives of S-grade videogame designers are completely different from ours.”
“Yeah, although I didn’t understand a lot of it, I still feel like I gained plenty from this to digest later.”
“Just look at her, she’s a top videogame designer in the country despite only twenty eight years old, and a girl no less. What else could you say other than she’s just better!”
Qiu Jiang appeared to have heard it, glancing at the direction of the comment before angrily sitting beside Chen Mo.
Qiu Hengyang let out a stifled laugh, quietly whispering to Chen Mo, “She really hates when others mention her age, be mindful of that.”
“Oh, is that so?” Chen Mo turned around and said to Qiu Jiang, “Don’t be mad. You’re really beautiful, I couldn’t tell you were twenty-eight this year.”
Qiu Jiang was dumbfounded at the comment, was that supposed to make her feel better? Among all this?
Even though the talk ended, most of the people in the audience remained seated, chatting.
Chen Mo was confused, “Why are they still here?”
Qiu Hengyang looked at the schedule, “Oh, there’s another talk after this, t.i.tled ‘Breakdown of profitability of mobile card games’. These people are probably here for the next one.”
“Oh?”
Chen Mo confirmed that that was indeed the next talk, hosted by Emperor Dynasty Entertainment’s Qiu Bin, designer of Demon Slayers 2.
Chen Mo laughed, “I have to listen to this one, this’ll be fun.”
Although it could be said that Chen Mo knew the profitability of mobile card games like the back of his hand, he wasn’t quite sure how the people of this world would a.n.a.lyse mobile card games.
This was an opportunity for him to ‘learn’ about the views of mobile card games in this world, and he might even gain a new perspective in this process.
There were many people in seats waiting for the talk to start, but two members of staff outside were in a panic.
“What? The talk is canceled? Why is it cancelled?”
“I thought the notice was out since two days ago. It was cancelled because Qiu Bin couldn’t make it to the awards ceremony.”
“n.o.body told me!”
“Whatever, it’s not a big problem. Just let the designers know and ask them to go to other talks.”
“Alright, I’ll do that.”
A member of staff walked onto stage and said using the mic, “I’m really sorry to inform you that Qiu Bin had already let the officials know that he couldn’t make it to the award ceremony because of personal reasons. Therefore, this talk is cancelled, please feel free to join the other talks.”
