Chapter 477: Miles Away

“Don’t worry, boss.” Professor Rudolf Wagner regained his scholarly look and said to Zheng Ren seriously, “When I go on stage, just treat me like I’m an intern. If I don’t do it right, you can slap me to death.”
Zheng Ren looked at the professor and doubted that was what the professor really wanted.
“Please believe in my sincerity,” Professor Rudolf Wagner said very sincerely, “I swear to the lamp, I just… ”
“Do you know what swearing to the lamp means?” Zheng Ren asked.
“When I was learning Mandarin, I watched a lot of movies. In one of the movies, that was one of the lines that they used, ” The professor said. “I feel that the lamp must be some sort of sacred fire, a symbol of sanct.i.ty that can not be blasphemed.”
“Oh, if you understand it that way, I’ll take your oath seriously then.” Zheng Ren was thinking about how to accomplish the System’s task. The professor’s oath gave him some confidence.
Prostate interventional embolization. Zheng Ren felt that the professor’s skill level was perfectly adequate with pulling off his techniques when he had done it in the Capital. However, what about at Zheng Ren’s current level? He reckoned that the professor would never be able to do it in his lifetime.
Anyway, he would just be teaching it to him. The quality of the reward was probably based on how well the professor would be able to understand his technique and instructions. He would just have to do his best.
After making his ward round, Zheng Ren went to the ICU to take a look at yesterday’s postoperative patient.
The patient’s condition was stable and their intake levels were very good. However, it would take at least one to two days before he could stop being heavily monitored.
The black hair on Su Yun’s forehead was messy but he still sat by the patient’s bedside. There were all kinds of liquids on the treatment cart beside him.
He held a piece of paper in his hand and recorded the latest urine routine test. Then, he began to calculate and rearrange the liquid sequence.
“Su Yun, thanks for your hard work,” said Zheng Ren. “I’m going to do a prostate interventional embolization. Do you want to see it?”
“What’s there to see?” Su Yun said listlessly. It seemed that last night had not been easy.
“Well, you should take some time to rest then.”
“Go it.” Su Yun was a little impatient. He was full of anger from being woken up. He waved his hand and chased Zheng Ren away as if he were a pesky fly.
After leaving the ICU, Zheng Ren was ready to go back to the ward to pick up the patient. He brought Professor Rudolf Wagner and they went straight to the operating theatre.
When he entered the emergency ward, Zheng Ren saw a person carrying something. He was standing somewhat awkwardly in the corridor, a careful expression on his face.
Chang Yue spoke to him very warmly. As she spoke, she pulled him into the office.
Why was she still carrying a load? From Chang Yue’s appearance, she seemed to be a previous patient?
Zheng Ren walked over and Chang Yue said cheerfully, “Chief Zheng, Brother Wu is here to see you.”
“Uh…” Brother Wu? Who was that? Zheng Ren glanced at the person carrying the burden. He looked to be in his fifties. His face was weathered and his wrinkles deep.
It seemed that…calling him an uncle was probably more appropriate.
Seeing Zheng Ren’s confused look, Chang Yue immediately said, “When I first came here, you picked up a hernia patient from the emergency department.”
“Oh!” Zheng Ren suddenly caught on. “Old Wu, how’s your body? Are you recovering well?”
“Good, good! I’m doing fine.” Old Wu smiled honestly and put down the burden. He wanted to shake Zheng Ren’s hand but was a little embarra.s.sed. He was afraid that his hands were dirty, so he rubbed his hands repeatedly on his clothes.
Zheng Ren quickly reached out and held his hand warmly.
His hand was calloused and stiff, just like stone.
“Old Wu, was everything alright after you went back and removed the st.i.tches?” Zheng Ren just asked a random question.
“Everything’s been great. Now, I’ve been able to work without a hitch.” Old Wu smiled foolishly. “Isn’t it the cat winter? I’ve gotten a few sheds and planted some vegetables.”
As he spoke, he pointed at the burden.
“I’ve been thinking recently of visiting my saviors but I felt like I didn’t have anything to show you,” Old Wu said. “These vegetables are all fertilized with farm manure. They’re very bright and fresh.”
“You’re too kind.” Zheng Ren looked at the two burdens, trying to recall the patient’s home address.
However, at that time, Chang Yue had already been called back by Chief Physician Pan. He had only been responsible for the surgery and not the paperwork. He had no idea what the patient’s address was.
“You’re my savior. This little thing isn’t expensive so don’t worry about it.” Old Wu smiled foolishly.
“Chief Zheng, Sister Wu has officially joined a female team in Shanghai.” Chang Yue was very happy, and Zheng Ren could tell. “I just transferred my salary back home a few days ago.”
“Oh, not bad.” Zheng Ren was also very surprised.
“Zhou Jinxi is a pillar. I heard from Sister Wu that Little Zhou is always nagging you.” Chang Yue’s smile suddenly became a little ambiguous.
Zhou Jinxi? Who was that? Zheng Ren was stunned for a moment before remembering the model who had a non-invasive appendectomy.
When he thought of Zhou Jinxi, that pair of long, slender, taunt, and powerful legs appeared in Zheng Ren’s mind. This was the only impression Zheng Ren had of her.
He smiled and was unfazed about Chang Yue’s words at all.
“Boss, let’s go to the operating theatre.” Professor Rudolf Wagner could not wait any longer.
“Oh,” Zheng Ren said. “Old Wu, I still have surgery here. You should go in and sit for a while. When I’m out of the operating theatre, we can go out for lunch together.”
“No, no.” Old Wu rubbed his hands together and said, “I woke up early in the morning and thought that you were busy and just afraid of going to the operating theatre to conduct the surgery. It’s good that you’ve made it.”
As he said that, he began to move the green vegetables on the load down.
Zheng Ren was not pretentious. It would be meaningless just to keep being polite at this moment.
He had been carrying the load and came to Sea City by some unknown means of transportation. The hards.h.i.+p and suffering along the way were more expensive than the cost of the vegetables. Most importantly, it was a token of goodwill.
Giving goose feathers from a thousand miles away was a light but heavy gift.
It was probably the case.
“You’re busy so I’ll go back now.” Old Wu smiled foolishly after he unloaded the vegetables. He then ignored Chang Yue and Zheng Ren’s argument and left as if he was carrying a load.
Looking at the room filled with all kinds of vegetables, Zheng Ren smiled.
“Find someone to share it with,” Zheng Ren said. “By the way, remember to send one to Chief Physician Pan. ”
“Got it.” The smile on Chang Yue’s face disappeared as she coldly replied to him.
Zheng Ren knew that she had such a temper so he did not mind. He called Professor Rudolf Wagner and Little Oliver to wheel the patient into the operating theater.
In the operating theater, everything was ready.
As soon as the patient arrived, Xie Yiren began to get busy. She prepared all kinds of instruments, equipment, guides, and catheters for Zheng Ren.
Zheng Ren did what he usually did. He inserted the 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction scans into the scanner and studied them carefully. After that, he played through the surgical procedures in his mind for the last time.
Professor Rudolph Wagner did not look at the scans with Zheng Ren. Instead, he was busy preparing for the surgery.
When the puncture began, the professor called out to Zheng Ren, “Soss, I’m going to perform the puncture.”
Zheng Ren replied in affirmation as he went to put on his lead ap.r.o.n. He washed his hands and went on stage.
The professor was a little nervous. After all, this was the day that he had been looking forward to for a long time. Although he had a little too much fun yesterday so he had a little less energy today, he still forced himself to focus and carry out the femoral artery puncture seriously.
The needle drew blood as the guide wire was sent in.
