Chapter 699: Burning His Life
After a simple and detailed record, Liu Xuzhi was sent to the emergency operating theater for wound debridement and suturing.
His injury…could not even be considered an injury.
Although he had almost injured his tendon and it would definitely leave an ugly scar in the future, it was really nothing compared to the general situation of things.
Disinfection, anesthesia, and suturing. Half an hour later, his arm was wrapped with layers of gauze as he walked out of the emergency operating theater.
“Go and rest. It’s been hard on you these past few days.” The doctor who sutured him was very polite. These people who came down from the frontline and were injured were all worthy of respect.
“I want to ask about something. Where is the interventional surgery room?”Liu Xuzhi asked.
“Hmm?”
“I’m an interventional surgeon. I’ll go and see if there’s anything I can help with,” Liu Xuzhi said.
The doctor from the emergency department frowned and said seriously, “You’ll sweat a lot if you wear a lead ap.r.o.n during surgery. Be careful of infection.”
“No worries.” Liu Xuzhi smiled foolishly. “I’ll just need a saline drip and some anti-inflammatory drugs. It’s not a big deal.”
Seeing that Liu Xuzhi insisted, the doctor from the emergency department showed him the way and then went back to work.
This place was really different. It was completely different from what Liu Xuzhi had imagined.
As he had expected, the corridor should be filled with patients waiting for triage. It was supposed to be messy and chaotic.
However, what Liu Xuzhi saw was an orderly triage. The lightly injured were placed in tents outside. Some of the seriously injured were pushed to the operating theater in Pengxi village while the others were sent to Chengdu by ambulance.
He saw many young people in suits busying themselves.
From the looks of it, they should be white-collar workers from the city, very smart and capable people. Their actions were also very methodical. There was not a hint of panic or confusion in them.
‘Looks like things aren’t bad,’ Liu Xuzhi praised in his heart.
Even in Horqin Right Middle Banner of Inner Mongolia, they would not be so strict and organized during such a large-scale rescue.
Amazing, amazing! Liu Xuzhi followed the guidance of the doctors from the emergency department all the way to the interventional surgery.
At the entrance of the operating theater was a simple small ward. A few nurses were changing the drip for the wounded, and there were volunteers taking care of the wounded.
Liu Xuzhi felt a little strange. Couldn’t they send the patient to the ward? Did they have to do the drip here?
No matter what, the conditions here were not as good as the ward.
While he was thinking, a stretcher trolley was pushed out.
A doctor held a transparent folder in his hand. He put a piece of paper inside and placed it on the body of the patient after the surgery. Then, he told the volunteer where to send the patient before pus.h.i.+ng the stretcher trolley that was carrying the next seriously injured patient directly into the operating theater.
This efficiency…was really amazing. When Liu Xuzhi saw that he was about to enter the operating theater, he immediately shouted.
“Who is it? What’s the matter?” The doctor answered loudly but did not delay the delivery of the seriously injured person into the operating theater.
This place had already become an a.s.sembly line for surgeries, and its efficiency was extremely high.
The doctor who pushed the patient did not dare to delay. The surgeries inside were all done crazily. Once any part of the surgery went awry, Chief Jiang who had always had a good temper would curse.
The surgeries had been going on for two days and one night. The few surgeons did not know how to feel tired. They only ate some food intermittently and took turns to rest. Surgery had never been delayed.
Therefore, Chief Jiang became even more stern. In his opinion, the doctors who supported him were working hard, and there was no reason for him and the doctors under him to slack off.
Although everyone was extremely tired, they gritted their teeth and persevered.
Liu Xuzhi jogged a few steps and his entire body ached.
“h.e.l.lo, I’m an interventional doctor who came from the frontline. I’m here to see if there’s anything I can help you with,” Liu Xuzhi quickly explained.
“Chief Jiang, a doctor has come!” The young doctor said loudly.
It seemed that this was the only way he would not fall asleep.
Chief Jiang raised his head and glanced at Liu Xuzhi. He asked, “Which hospital are you from? What kind of surgery can you perform? Have you filed a report with Director Lin?”
“I’m from a second-cla.s.s hospital, Horqin Right Middle Banner of Inner Mongolia. I know how to perform surgeries but my skills are average. I can help as an a.s.sistant and replace the surgeon to take a break. As for filing a report… I haven’t done that yet,” Liu Xuzhi said.
He was the kind of person who knew how to act. He did not want to be compet.i.tive, so he directly said that he only intended to be a subst.i.tute. As for filing a report, he did not expect a towns.h.i.+p-level hospital to be so formal.
Chief Jiang nodded and said, “Then I’ll file the case for you. Doctor Zheng, do you want to rest for a while? Someone else is coming.”
“There’s no need.” An ethereal voice came from the operating theater. “I’m fine. How many patients with pelvic fractures are there?”
“Three! The rest are done!” When Chief Jiang said this, he was also a little absent-minded.
He had never thought that he would be able to complete a huge number of patients.
However, the truth was obvious after two days and one night, More than a hundred surgeries were completed just like that. Even if there were more patients sent down from the frontline and the patients who piled up were like a small dam, all surgeries had already been completed so Chief Jiang had nothing to worry about.
“Tell Uncle Ning that if there are any patients who need to be amputated, he can send a few over. I’ll do the embolectomy in a while.” Zheng Ren’s voice was very soft and floated in the air. It was obvious that he was too tired.
“Doctor Zheng, please sleep for a while. I beg you.” Chief Jiang stood at the entrance of the operating theater and bowed repeatedly without caring about his image. He had a pleading look on his face.
Liu Xuzhi was dumbfounded. What was going on?
“There’s no need. I can handle a few more,” Zheng Ren said.
“That’s what you said six hours ago,” Chief Jiang almost cried. He was draped in lead clothes. He did the surgery for dozens of hours without rest or sleep. No one else would be able to continue operating under such conditions.
In the operating room next door, two people had already taken turns to rest during the later part of the surgery. Mu Tao and Su Yun could not endure it anymore.
Only in this operating room did Zheng Ren quietly perform the surgery after he chased Chief Chen away.
Each surgery did not take more than fifteen minutes. Including the time needed to move the patients, there were four surgeries done in an hour. This kind of high speed was maintained all the time, and it did not decrease because of physical fatigue.
Chief Jiang did not know how long Doctor Zheng could last. Perhaps in the next second, he would faint. However, at least he was still trying.
“Bring the patients up. Don’t use your energy on this.” Zheng Ren lowered his head. He did not even have the strength to tear off the sterile clothes. He stood beside the medical trash can and had a volunteer take off the sterile clothes for him.
Liu Xuzhi was dumbfounded. He whispered, “Doctor Zheng, I’m also involved in this. I can conduct one surgery for you. Please take a rest first.”
“Okay. You can be my a.s.sistant.” Zheng Ren turned around to brush his hands and drank a few mouthfuls of water.
He did not dare to drink too much water. He was afraid that he would have to pee.
He only drank a few mouthfuls to maintain the moisture in his mouth.
During this period of time, he drank three energy drinks. However, its effects seemed to be weakening.
Zheng Ren did not know how long he could last but since he could still perform the surgery, he would do it.
The surgery had gone crazy. He burned his life, completing one surgery after another as he saved one patient after another.
