Chapter 371: 371 - Maggie's Lesson
"I can't recall..." Lilith muttered, her headache intensifying, as she closed her eyes and saw the shadow of a woman insider her mind, but only a shadow.
"Come on, tell us something about yourself, I know you remember at least something," Khish pried further, a smile on her face as she tried to learn more about the mysterious snake.
"I can't, I can't," Lilith started muttering, as the shadow became immersed in a purplish smoke, and she shook her head slightly, but not enough for anyone other than Maggie notice.
"It can't be that hard, come on, tell me about what you looked like," Allie joined in again, asking, a flash on color appearing on Lilith's mind, as the image of a woman became vivid for a second, before golden and while chains completely surrounded it and an enormous pain a.s.saulted her.
"I SAID I CAN'T!" she screamed, growing to her largest size, and baring her fangs at the two.
"Lilith?!" Maggie called her out, making the snake freeze, before closing her mouth.
Quickly, Lilith curned up, diminis.h.i.+ng in size until she was the smallest she could, and winded herself into a bundle. What surprised Maggie, though, was that she had went back to the size she was before, when Noah could use her as a collar. "I can't remember..." she muttered, sadness ingrained into her voice, as the two girls who were met with fangs the size of their palms, calmed themselves down, breathing raggedly.
"Hey, are you okay?" Maggie asked, putting a hand over Lilith, who was curled up, with her head shoved deep into herself, hiding.
"...Yeah. My head hurts a little," she answered in a soft voice, not trying to hide how shaken she was herself.
It was only then that the two who were asking her question realize that there was something going on, and she was not just angry at them.
"I..." Khish tried to say something, but was still too struck with fear to say anything meaningful.
While this took place, Maggie crawled up to Lilith, lifting the small bundle of snake with both hands, and sitting back down, now with Lilith on her lap. The most strange part was that Lilith di not complain, nor object. She just stayed in her bundle, hiding her face amongst herself.
"Lilith, I'm sorry if we pushed you too hard, we never wanted to make you feel bad," Al stepped in, apologizing.
"It's okay. It really wasn't your fault at all, I'm sorry I took it out on the two of you..." The faint voice of the snake came m.u.f.fled by her position, but it was still easy to understand her words, and anyone could notice how hurt she sounded. Her apology was genuine, after all.
"You two need to start noticing things earlier. You went a little too far," Sha said, as she arranged herself on the bed, now that Maggie was no longer near her. "Lilith, are you feeling alright?" she asked, noticing the snake had grown too silent. Without waiting for the answer, ahving been there during the arena, she used healing on her, just as a keepsake, since she knew for a fact the effects were small to nil.
"Thanks, Sha," Lilith let herself go from the bundle, sprawling herself on Maggie's lap, before lifting her head, and resting it against the girl's stomach. "I'm sorry if I went overboard with you two... It's just that, this hurts me a lot," she saidstaring straight at Khish who was still a little stiff.
"... What do you mean, hurts? Your feelings?" she asked back, biting her lip.
"No... It really does," Lilith took a deep breath, before looking at Sha, who nodded. "What I'm going to tell you is something only me, Noah, Sha and Bel know. I'll ask you to please never ever comment this with anyone else. Got it?" she asked, enticing Allie and Khish's curiosity. But as she did so, a face loomed over her, looking down as if feeling betrayed. "We didn't tell you because we didn't want to worry you," Lilith pleaded, seeing Maggie displeased face.
"Why Bel?" she asked, jealousy seeping into her voice, which almost made Lilith laugh.
"Because he already knew from the day we met," Lilith said, making Maggie's eyes go wide.
"He did? How come?" she asked, confused by Lilith's words.
"Bel comes from the same place I do! It seems the me before losing my memory was like a mother to him, but I can't know for sure," Lilith said something outrageous, which made Maggie's face simply go blank for a second.
"... So that's why he called you Mother..." Maggie muttered, shocked. "Wait, does this mean Bel is not a human?!" she asked, realizing the implications, since Lilith had just told them she was neither a human nor a monster.
"Yeah... Actually, if you guys know about the ancient religions, you probably heard of us... We are the so-called Demons," Lilith told the girls, but breathed a sigh of relief, since it seemed none of them knew about it. "Either way, there used to be a large religion, in which there was only one got that ruled everything and had a ma.s.sive army under him. A long time ago, I faced him, together with my Master, and all others that followed us. I don't know what happened, or how it happened, but my memories were sealed, and I somehow ended up here. When Noah found me, in that pet store, I was very weak and injured. They tried to heal me and feed me medicine, but nothing worked, and I hated being touched by them, so I avoided it by any means, until he showed up."
"Hey, sis, is this one of those romances from soap-opera?" Khish whispered into Al's ear, making her giggle.
"Ahem!" Sha cleared her throat aloud, calling the two's attention, as Lilith continued telling her story.
"When we met, I felt something about him that reminded me of my Master, so I let him help me. He healed he and gave me a place to belong, and I've been helping him since, but it was a real shock to know what happened to my Master," she took a deep breath, cutting the narrative right there, and making the girls anxious.
"Tell us more! Who was your master, you never mentioned him," Khish said, her eyes glistening, contrary to her comment before.
Lilith looked around and up to Maggie, who was also gleaming in antic.i.p.ation, and gave up a sigh, "I guess I can tell you guys about him, but bear in mind my memories are still sealed, so there's a limit to how much I can say about him," she said, before starting to talk about Lucifer's appearance, aura and might. By the time she finished describing him, with all the pa.s.sion she held, the atmosphere in the room had changed completely. Even Maggie who was nowhere near interested in romance so far, was imagining her perfect man.
"Now that I think about it." Sha straightened herself, her brows furrowed, and asked "Doesn't this Master Lucifer of yours sound a lot like Noah?" she asked, thinking about the appearance she had described, and all the qualities that overlapped."
"Yeah... Now that she mentioned it, he does sound a lot like Brother..." Maggie agreed, furrowing her brows and looked down. "Lilith, what does this mean?" she asked, driving the snake into a corner.
"... I don't know if I should answer that..." she muttered, extending her tongue as she started thinking whether it was a good idea to let them all know about the secret behind Noah's Blessing.
"Lilith..." Maggie said her name slowly, trying to force her hand, since she knew this was not a limitation based off of her sealed memories.
"..." Lilith stayed silent for a minute, feeling the pressure from everyone's gaze, before she crumbled. "Noah's blessing comes from my Master, that's why he can tame us," Or so everyone thought, but Lilith, a master of deceit, had given them only the very bare minimum.
"Oh, man..." Khish exhaled, looking up. "To think there would be such an amazing G.o.d whose blessings could do all of this..." She sighed loudly, "I wish I could change my blessing or get another one."
"Me too... But I guess that's a pipe-dream of ours," Al complemented, resenting her blessing she could not control or understand, and all it had caused her in pain and suffering over the years.
"You probably can, I think Noah can give people blessings too," Maggie said, making Lilith immediately stand and look at her, silently asking her to shut the f.u.c.k up.
"What?!"
"HOW?!"
In that same instant, Khish and Al rushed towards her, making the startled girl fumble backwards onto the bed.
"You two, calm down!" Sha exclaimed, putting herself between them and the Maggie and Lilith pair. "You can't just jump on her because she said something,"
"Did you even hear what she said?! If he can give us—" Khish started speaking, but was immediately interrupted by Lilith.
"Do you know how often he can do it? Or what's the price he has to pay in order to do it? Or even whether there are any prerrequisites? Even if he can, do you think this is something he can do to anyone?" Lilith barraged them with questions, making the two fall back, and giving Maggie enough time to sit back up on the bed, teary eyed.
"It's okay, Lilith... I should've worded it better," Maggie said, biting her lip, finally understanding why Noah and Lilith were so wary about telling people things that were not commonplace.
