Chapter 62: Hisss
62 62 - Hisss
Marcel was already getting angry at Jasper, he had confidence in his own judgment, what he saw in Noah, could not be seen in any low rank wizard. Noah's Blessing was probably as high as his, thus reaching Rank B, or maybe even Rank A. It didn't make sense for Marcel to waste such a great talent in magic to put him in the scouter position. "Jasper, the decision has already been made. I decided this because I considered it the best for the team. From what I saw from his Blessing, he is a high standard wizard. Do you know how difficult it is to find a wizard like that? Moreover, you say he is good as a scouter, but I find it very difficult that he is as good a scout as he is being a mage."
Hearing what Marcel was talking about, Jasper began to feel like plucking his own ears out in frustration. If Marcel had seen Noah in the Goblin Forest Fortress, he would have known what Jasper was talking about. Noah, indeed, had a very powerful fire magic that did a lot of damage, but that wasn't the magic that Jasper admired most. No, what he admired most was that explosion that instantly transported Noah from place to place. If Jasper had that Blessing, he would certainly be even closer to Rank D.
But when Jasper saw the frown that was forming on Marcel's face, he decided to be quiet. He knew that most likely at some point Noah would use the teleportation skill, so it would only be a matter of time before Marcel realized his own error, but for now Jasper would have to endure the task of jumping around to try to take down the boars from above the birds alone.
Just as Marcel had said to the Blessed mage with concerns at the beginning of the Fortress invasion, seeing as Jasper was the only scouter on the team, from time to time they needed to stop so he could rest before they went any further, since he was the one who was most struggling when darting from side to side.
At various times Jasper looked at Noah as if he were implying for him to show his skill to others, so that he himself could rest, but Noah just pretended not to see these signs and continued walking calmly, as if he were walking through the park, without sweating even a single drop. Jasper, on the other hand, was all sweaty and his clothes were all wet. A faintly light film was starting to settle on Jasper because of the sweat that dried and was not wiped off.
Noah initially didn't feel like talking to these people; he just wanted to keep a little distance and stay away from talking about anything besides the essentials. But when he remembered that he would be meeting these people in almost every Fortress from here on, where they would need to be trusting each other, he left the problems he had with these people aside and tried to become more friendly so that they would have a good relations.h.i.+p in the future, in addition to increasing the synergy in battle of the group.
During Noah's "walk in the park", the group had managed to kill several monsters along the way. The only person who was really tired was Jasper and somewhat the Blessed who fought hand-to-hand since they ran to kill the wild boars that fell from the birds that Noah did not kill in the air. In fact, Noah realized that being in control of his fireb.a.l.l.s was not very useful for him in the long run, since the amount of energy he received from the corpses barely paid for the 4x more expensive fireball he used to hit the falling boars, even more so when Noah tried to adjust the aim of the fireb.a.l.l.s and missed, making him have to spend even more energy.
In terms of energy, if he were to continue this process, Noah would end up running out of energy over time in the Fortress, so he had to give up some of the wild boars that fell from the birds to just focus on the birds.
The amount of EXP that Noah was earning in this Fortress was very good. Even though he had not separated from the group, still because of the EXP monopolization tactics he employed, he was managing to progress a lot in his skill and exp to level up.
Unfortunately, the "vacation" spent in the "park" that Noah was considering as a good and easy exp farm was interrupted by a scream very different from what they were used to hearing.
* SCHREEEE *
"d.a.m.n, what is it this time?" Jasper asked aloud in a voice that was clearly in a bad mood.
However, other people just ignored how he was feeling and started discussing the bird's cry.
"This scream- we are still not that close to the Boss's nest. By my calculations we have only covered 60% of the way to the Boss. Where did this scream come from if it wasn't the Boss?" A middle-aged man with a map in hand started talking to himself. This man was an archer for the group, but he had studied a lot of cartography, mainly the specialty in cartography for Fortresses since this helped a lot in invasions, so much so that he was the official cartographer of the group.
But if he didn't even know what was going on, the others were even more lost. They had already come to an Angry Birds Fortress once and that scream never happened; this was the first time for them to hear that scream.
The bird's scream was getting louder and louder. Sometimes it appeared in the north, sometimes in the east, the next moment it was in the south. It was as if it were surrounding the group, basically acting like a predator acts with its prey.
Noah was not liking what was happening. He was feeling that this bird was also an Angry Bird, but he seemed much more powerful. It was like hearing the roar of a large adult lion, with the roar of a small lion cub. Even if you knew that the two were of the same species, the difference in the magnificence of the roars made a total difference in the feelings of the listener.
Some of the weakest Blessed even began to have their hand that held their weapons shake slightly.
Marcel, the leader of the group, was also lost. He knew he had to rally the team so that they would not be confused on what to do and end up being ambushed and killed, but he had no idea where to start. However, as the leader, Marcel quickly thought of the most logical order to give and shouted at everyone, "Quick! Get together and get into the Boss battle formation. We don't know what we're up against, but be prepared for the worst!"
Hearing Marcel's order, people were no longer at a loss as to what to do and quickly followed his orders without thinking twice, knowing that this was the most logical and safest thing to do. Even Jasper, despite being a little tired, ran in order to not be left out alone and have a chance to be considered prey by the Boss.
Looking from side to side, Noah was trying to identify what was happening. What monster was this; what caused this monster to appear? But the more he asked himself, the more questions arose in his head.
That was, until something he didn't expect happened.
* Hissss *
On his wrist, Lilith had at some point woken up and was hissing angrily at the big monster that was flying around the group without having shown itself.
