Chapter 2243: Cosplay
Editor: Atlas Studios
Daniel took a deep breath and calmed down. Ever since what happened that day, he seemed to have a habit of splitting hairs and could only think about taking revenge. He seemed to have forgotten that he needed to be strategic and not so impulsive.
“I’m sorry, Dad. I am being too hasty in this matter,” Daniel said.
Alan shook his head resignedly. Fortunately, his son was not a boor and was still amenable to suggestions. Otherwise, after he handed the family business to Daniel, it would be destroyed within a few years!
“Keep an eye on Jessica during this period of time. Don’t let her do anything stupid. Even without Fang Chen, there are still other suitable partners for her,” Alan said.
“The butler will follow her everywhere she goes for now. After all, because she hasn’t been working this period of time, her reputation has taken a hit. We still need her to maintain a positive image for our family,” Daniel said.
Jessica was heartbroken and wanted to stay at home for a while longer, but Daniel had lined up a lot of work for her. He did not even give her much time to sleep. His purpose was to help her establish a new image.
All the tabloids had already published the news about Xia Zhe rejecting Jessica in public. In order to influence the public to side with Alan’s family, Daniel wanted to create a strong image of Jessica being a woman “working hard to build a career after being let down by a sc.u.mbag” so as to attract more fans among those people who felt sorry for her.
“You have done well in this matter so I’ll leave the rest to you. Don’t disappoint me,” Alan said.
“Alright, Dad,” Daniel said.
By now, Qiao Mei had already returned to the small town. Xia Zhe did not want her to risk staying in Sky City. Even though very few people knew about the previous encounter between Qiao Mei and Xia Zhe, there were still people who knew about it. If Daniel decided to used torture to extort a confession, someone might just expose the relations.h.i.+p between Xia Zhe and Qiao Mei in the face of certain death. In that case, Daniel definitely would not let Qiao Mei off. Even with Bella’s protection, she would not be able to escape unscathed.
Xia Wan looked at Qiao Mei expectantly and asked excitedly, “Have you met my younger cousin? That issue should be a lie, right!”
“Yes, I met him. He had rejected that woman’s marriage proposal. The whole thing was that woman’s one-sided wishful thinking and he was forced into it,” Qiao Mei said softly.
Xia Wan immediately patted her chest and finally felt relieved. She said happily, “I just know that my younger cousin is not that kind of person! You don’t even know yet! The children have learned a lot of new things over the past few days! Xia Yue has drawn many paintings and each one of them is very beautiful!”
Qiao Mei was slightly surprised. Xia Yue was only a little more than a year old now. Yet, he could still draw beautiful paintings at an age when he could not even speak properly. Perhaps Xia Wan was viewing Xia Yue’s work through a “family member filter” and was biased in thinking that everything the child produced was good.
Qiao Mei went to the children’s room, still feeling doubtful. Xia Wan had already framed up all of Xia Yue’s drawings and hung them on the wall. The paintings could not be considered nice, but she could clearly see what Xia Yue was trying to draw. This was already very rare for a one-year-old child.
“Look! This is a b.u.t.terfly! This is a duckling! I only showed him some pictorial books with many drawings inside, but he can actually remember all of them. The outlines of these drawings are similar to those pictures he saw! He’s a prodigy! When my kid was more than a year old, she didn’t even know what a pen was!” Xia Wan said as she pointed at the drawings excitedly.
Qiao Mei hugged Xia Yue happily and said, “Our Yue Yue is so amazing! I didn’t expect you to be so talented in art! It’s a pity that there’s no one in our family who knows how to paint. Otherwise, we can start to nurture you from now.”
There were not many artistically talented people in the Xia family. Xia Wen had a flair for literature while Xia He was talented in dance, and there was Qian’e who was quite accomplished in music. In Qiao Mei’s other life, she only knew to study hard and could do some handicrafts, but she knew nothing about painting.
In this era, there were very few painters. Most of the great painters lived in seclusion. It seemed that she had to go and ask the professors in the university if there were any masters who were willing to take in a little kid like Xia Yue as their disciple.
After playing with the children for a while, Qiao Mei realized that she had not informed Xia Zhe that she had returned safe and sound. She went to the study to give him a call, but she did not expect the call to get connected so quickly.
“h.e.l.lo?” Xia Zhe said coldly.
“h.e.l.lo, Mr Xia. I’m calling to inform you that your wife has arrived home safely. Please don’t worry about her,” Qiao Mei said fluently, sounding like a broadcaster.
Xia Zhe laughed and said, “Really? I miss my wife very much though. Intern, can you ask my wife to answer the phone?”
She did not expect Xia Zhe to have a thing for role-play! The next time she met Xia Zhe, they could do cosplay!
