After the meal, just before Jiang Yu and Liu Qiang departed, a set of keys was delivered. Zhou Hengyang stepped into the courtyard and exchanged a few words with the sender before placing the keys down and departing.

Liu Chun leaned against the window, peering out.

“Big Brother, what are you looking at?” Liu Qiang joined him, curious.

Liu Chun studied the scene intently, his body tense with antic.i.p.ation. Suddenly, he moved so abruptly that Liu Qiang nearly stumbled over. Thankfully, he caught himself in time.

“Who’s that? He was so secretive, not even showing his face,” Liu Qiang remarked.

In the dimly lit courtyard, Zhou Hengyang and the figure who delivered the keys stood beneath a tree. The sender’s back was turned toward the main courtyard, rendering his features indistinct. All Liu Qiang could discern was a shadowy figure standing at about ear level, radiating an air of authority.

Liu Qiang sensed danger emanating from the mysterious figure, prompting him to remain silent.

Previously, both he and Jiang Yu had operated on a different level from Zhou Hengyang, not in terms of social status but in terms of personal capability and occupational power. Liu Qiang had heard vague warnings about Zhou Hengyang, always ending with the admonition: “Do not provoke.”

In all honesty, were it not for Su Wen’s book signing event, they would never have crossed paths with Zhou Hengyang. It was a pleasant surprise to forge an acquaintance and offer mutual a.s.sistance.

The two of them huddled by the floor-to-ceiling window, leaving Jiang Yu alone in the living room out of sheer boredom. Tempted by curiosity, he considered eavesdropping on the conversation but thought better of it, refraining out of politeness.

“Come on, let’s go. You’ve been staring for ages. Did you see anything?” Liu Chun intervened, dragging Liu Qiang away. “It’s impossible to hear anything from this distance.”

“No, I couldn’t make out anything. It’s too far,” Liu Qiang confessed.

“Where did you pick up those sly skills?” Liu Chun chided with a laugh. “You two have been a great help today. If you ever need a.s.sistance in the future, just ask.”

Liu Chun had a knack for getting along with everyone.

“Brother Chun, you’re too kind. We didn’t do much,” Liu Qiang humbly replied. “If you ever need anything from us, just let us know.”

“Alright then. We won’t keep you any longer. It’s been quite a hectic day,” Liu Chun said as they bid farewell.

As Jiang Yu approached to greet Liu Chun, the key deliverer had already departed from the courtyard. With a brief nod, the two of them pa.s.sed by Zhou Hengyang and left.

Outside the courtyard, Liu Qiang let out a sigh of relief. “Jiang Yu, did you notice how nervous you were around the eldest son of the Zhou family? I couldn’t even bring myself to talk to him. Liu Chun handles everything so smoothly.”

The pressure exerted by the Zhou family’s eldest son was immense. Just a brief interaction sent chills down his spine.

Jiang Yu nodded in agreement. “Indeed, but I think he’s a good person.” Observing Zhou Hengyang throughout the day, Jiang Yu was surprised by his genuine concern for Su Wen. It was rare to see such devotion from a man towards his wife.

“Why would you say that?” Liu Qiang exclaimed in disbelief. “Why are you defending your romantic rival? Admiration is one thing, but rivals are another.”

Once again, he started to talk badly.
