Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Tattered Map

The Ice-Feathered Spirit was very innocent. After Chu Mu comforted it, it immediately let out a cheerful sound.
Chu Mu asked the Ice-Feathered Spirit to remove the Ice Wall effect, then took it outside the cave to see the world.
However, after taking only a few steps, Chu Mu found a somewhat worn scroll under his feet. It looked like it had been accidentally left behind by the two people who had fled in panic just now.
Chu Mu picked it up and slowly opened it.
The scroll was clearly from Nightmare Demon Palace, with a background pattern featuring a nightmare demon burning in demon flames. The scroll was divided into four parts, each filled with names, most of which had a strange magical glow.
Chu Mu felt curious, wondering what the scroll filled with names was for. He glanced over it, but couldn’t figure out its purpose.
“Chirp, chirp ” The Ice-Feathered Spirit curiously peeked at the strange and peculiar fonts on the scroll, looking completely bewildered.
“These are human words that you can’t understand… I also don’t know what they mean, there are so many names and they are densely packed.” Chu Mu explained to the Ice-Feathered Spirit.
The Ice-Feathered Spirit made a clear sound, then stretched out its slender finger, floating slowly in front of Chu Mu. It pointed to a name in the fourth part of the scroll and let out an excited chirp.
Chu Mu followed the Ice -Feathered Spirit’s gaze and immediately showed surprise.
The name the Ice-Feathered Spirit pointed at was “Chu Mu.” He didn’t expect his own name to be on the scroll.
“Could this be a list of the three thousand prisoners on Prison Island?”
After making this guess, Chu Mu began scanning the names one by one.
As expected, Chu Mu found Cao Yi’s name in the second part. Xia Guanghan had mentioned that Cao Yi had also been thrown onto this island.
Finding Cao Yi’s name further confirmed Chu Mu’s guess. That is to say, the names of all three thousand prisoners on the island were on this magical scroll!
Chu Mu carefully observed the scroll filled with names again, finding that the names of most people on the scroll had some glowing effect, while very few names were completely dim and without any glow.
“These dim names…” Chu Mu immediately thought of a possibility.
Chu Mu remembered that Xia Guanghan had some special ability to lock his soul sense onto the White Nightmare Demon and sense its location.
“Could it be that Nightmare Demon Palace has marked the souls of all the prisoners on the island and engraved them on this scroll? Once someone dies, their soul mark will disappear…” Chu Mu made another guess.
Counting, Chu Mu found that about a hundred soul marks had disappeared from this special scroll. If Chu Mu’s guess was correct, then there should be a hundred prisoners who had already died on the island. They were either killed by other prisoners or slain by the dangerous souls on the island.
“The engraving expertise of Nightmare Demon Palace is indeed incredible, being able to engrave such a special Death Scroll.” Chu Mu muttered to himself.
If many prisoners had such a Death Scroll, they would be able to know how many enemies were still on the island, eliminating the possibility of some hiding in certain places to avoid this brutal slaughter.
“Chirp, chirp–—”
The Ice-Feathered Spirit seemed to have discovered something else. It pointed to the back of the scroll and emitted a faint sound, trying to tell Chu Mu something.
Chu Mu turned the scroll over and found a small colorful map drawn on the back. It looked like a miniature map.
The mini map was stuck to the scroll. It came off with a gentle tug.
Chu Mu flipped through the map, which was an irregular conical shape. The end of the cone seemed to continue to extend, but the map was very small, clearly only showing a part of the island.
Chu Mu roughly looked over the small map and tried to compare it with his surroundings.
Outside of the cave was a huge basin, covered by dense trees and plants. It looked like a green ocean at a glance.
Standing at the edge of the cave, Chu Mu could see an opening in the center of the forest where there appeared to be a lake.
Upon closer inspection, Chu Mu found that this small conical -shaped map seemed to perfectly correspond to his current location, meaning the map was marking the type of island he was currently on.
“It should be here, right?”
After some comparison, Chu Mu quickly found the direction of the cliff and basin jungle and immediately pinpointed his location.
With a small map in hand, Chu Mu could have a better grasp of the surrounding environment and would not get lost somewhere.
Chu Mu deliberately marked the place where Little Green Worm was undergoing pupation and followed the map’s guidance to the location of the lake.
There was not an abundance of freshwater on the island. After a whole day, Chu Mu felt his mouth was dry and needed to replenish his water intake.
There were many dangers lurking in the jungle, so Chu Mu had the Ice-Feathered Spirit follow him to avoid being ambushed by ferocious creatures.
“Little White?”
“Lingle—-” The Ice-Feathered Spirit immediately shook its head, refusing to accept the name given by Chu Mu.
Chu Mu actually thought that Little White suited the Ice-Feathered Spirit. The Ice-Feathered Spirit was silly and as a high-level War Marshal soul pet, being so easily contracted by a human was a bit unbecoming…
“Ning?” Chu Mu was very particular about respecting his soul pets’ “rights,” even asking for their opinions when naming them.
The Ice-Feathered Spirit immediately nodded, seeming to like this simple and meaningful, wild yet restrained name, and emitted clear, crisp sounds joyfully.
“Second rank sixth stage, late-stage level two ice skin. Frost Blade in late-stage, ice armor in late-stage, ice wall in full phase, other skills are not yet understood…” The first thing to do after getting a new Soul Pet was to thoroughly understand it so that it could be better used in battle and bring its combat power to the peak.
“Lingle-
“Alright, alright, I know you’re hungry. Let’s go to the lake and see, there should be some ice-attribute soul pets living there,” Chu Mu said.
Chu Mu kept in step with the Ice-Feathered Spirit to avoid being ambushed. He had limited soul power and could not release his Soul Sense to sense the surroundings all the time.
Before, when Little Green Worm was around, Chu Mu didn’t have to worry about these things since it had a sensing ability that surpa.s.sed many powerful soul pets. But now Chu Mu had to be more careful.
Heading straight for the lake with the Ice-Feathered Spirit, just as Chu Mu saw s.h.i.+mmering waves ahead, he suddenly stopped and furrowed his eyebrows.
“Ning, ice wall!”
Chu Mu gave the order directly with spoken language, his tone noticeably heavier.
The Ice-Feathered Spirit was first stunned, its eyes somewhat blank.. Then it realized that the surrounding temperature had suddenly dropped and hastily chanted the spirit incantation!
