Chapter IBMLS Ch.108 Old acquaintance (4)
Mrs. Jiang originally thought that Mu Mingtang would blame them, but she was grateful with her life. As an adopted daughter, Mu Mingtang was of course not comparable to her biological daughter. Mrs. Jiang wanted to persuade Mu Mingtang to be content with life and just give in to her fate. However, when she came to meet Mu Mingtang, she didn’t expect to see Mu Mingtang to have a good complexion and a calm gaze, she didn’t look depressed at all. She talked casually with Xie Xuanchen. They looked like a happily married couple.
This was slightly awkward. Mrs. Jiang just finished persuading her own daughter about why her husband wasn’t returning home, she thought that she would see her adopted daughter being all miserable, but they became a sweet and loving couple.
Jiang Mingwei and Mu Mingtang got married at very close dates, and they were both married into the royal family, everyone kept comparing them both. It was said to be a comparison, but in fact, everyone thrashed one of them and praised the other, they enjoyed the sense of superiority. After all, one of them was a pair of childhood sweethearts who eventually got married, they were a match made in heaven, and the other one was a forced marriage, which clearly was just a political marriage where the wife would one day become a widow. It was clear who was having it better.
This pair of childhood sweethearts’ story made the people envious, and all the women blamed the reason for them not being able to marry a prince on Mu Mingtang’s desire to become part of the royal family, and instead they ridiculed Mu Mingtang. Although Mrs. Jiang wasn’t bothered by these comments amongst the common ladies, she still felt a sense of superiority in her heart.
However, reality placed Mrs. Jiang in a very awkward spot. Her own biological daughter had just complained that she hasn’t had s.e.x with her husband even after 7 days of their marrraige, but Mu Mingtang, who was looked down upon by everyone, was doing so well off. She was also promoted as a princess, and even received an apology in disguise from the Empress Dowager. Even in the manor, she helped her husband to meet the guests together. The two stood side by side, they made a great couple, they talked and laughed freely, and they were both comfortable with each other.
Mrs. Jiang was embarra.s.sed, but she was immediately reminded that Xie Xuanchen wouldn’t survive past this winter. What use is it for Mu Mingtang to be so well off now? Isn’t she still destined to end up a widow and go on with life alone? Thinking that way, Mrs. Jiang felt much better, and her gaze at Mu Mingtang changed from embarra.s.sment to pity.
How pitiful. In fact, looking at it this way, they looked so good as a couple. Such a pity.
Mu Mingtang noticed that Mrs. Jiang’s gaze was slowly changing, which made Mu Mingtang very uncomfortable. Mu Mingtang couldn’t be more familiar with that gaze that showed pity. How unnecessary of some people. When they pity others, they never think about whether the other party needed their pity or not.
Mu Mingtang smiled at Mrs. Jiang and said: “I always talk to the prince like this, sorry to make us seem like a joke in front of Mrs. Jiang.”
Mrs. Jiang’s gaze turned even more pitiful. She looked at Mu Mingtang as if she just sighed and said, “Princess, how could you say that? Although you didn’t live in the Jiang manor for long, I treat you like my own biological daughter. If you’re having a good time with Prince An, I’ll be more than happy to hear that.”
Why can’t she understand what she was trying to say, Mu Mingtang looked at Mrs. Jiang in silence. But Mrs. Jiang was submerged in her own emotions and wiped away her tears after she finished. Mu Mingtang resisted the urge to roll her eyes, smiled lightly as she said, “Thank you, Mrs. Jiang, for the blessings, we’ll of course do well.”
Mrs. Jiang sighed, until now, Mu Mingtang was still trying to fake how happy she was, she probably doesn’t know about the imperial physician’s diagnosis. Mrs. Jiang sighed even more at Mu Mingtang, how pitiful, she doesn’t have much time left to live in her perfect life. She herself thought that she was walking on the broad main road, but in fact, she was walking on the edge of a cliff.
