Chapter 269
Drama (3)
Mu Mingtang leaned on the railing of the bridge and panted slowly. “Are we going to elope?” she sounded out of breath, still huffing and puffing.
Amused, Xie Xuanchen answered Mu Mingtang, “Yes, this time you’re right. We are going to elope.”
Seeing Mu Mingtang tired from all the running, Xie Xuanchen stopped and pointed towards the wall right in front of them: “Look, that is the back wall of the palace, we can go out from there and merge into the back alley of Jingming Street.”
Mu Mingtang couldn’t believe her ears. “Are we really going out?”
“Of course.” Xie Xuanchen raised his eyebrows slightly. “As long as I promise you, I will definitely do it. Do you doubt my capabilities?”
“But if we suddenly disappeared, the Emperor may…”
“It doesn’t matter.” Xie Xuanchen snorted, and his voice was full of sarcasm, “Who is he anyway?”
Xie Xuanchen gazed at Mu Mingtang with his twinkling eyes as he asked softly: “Miss Mu, May I have the honour of eloping with you?”
Mu Mingtang couldn’t help but nod in front of her husband’s seductive charm and softly muttered a “yes” while thinking: ‘With such a charming appearance, Xie Xuanchen might be able to seduce any lady to elope with him.’
Xie Xuanchen and Mu Mingtang came across the bridge and walked towards the back gate of the palace that led towards the back alley. As people rarely used this gate, even the gatekeeper had become an idler.
The gatekeeper was a woman, who was dozing off at the side, but she suddenly woke up hearing footsteps coming toward her. When she opened her eyes, what she saw was the prince and the princess standing in front of her. However, the woman thought that her mind was playing tricks on her as the prince and the princes had never come here, so she rubbed her eyes vigorously and looked again.
After seeing that the two figures were still standing there and looking at her, she broke out in a cold sweat. “My…my l..ord, please spare my life. My princess, I was wrong. I didn’t deliberately neglect my duty…”
Xie Xuanchen clicked his tongue in disgust as he said, “No one asked you about that. Xiang Nanchun appears to be looking for you. I heard her instructing her maid to call you over.”
Although the gatekeeper was not smart, she had some doubts in her heart: ‘Why did the prince come to deliver the message?…’
Xiang Nanchun was the head maid of the inner mansion, so the gatekeeper did not intend to stay until the maid came to deliver the message. However, the master of the palace personally delivered the message…
Mu Mingtang, who didn’t expect such a thing to happen, didn’t dare to look at the gatekeeper, fearing that she would give the game away. And Xie Xuanchen’s lie might get exposed.
Still harbouring some doubts, the gatekeeper swept her gaze between Xie Xuanchen and Mu Mingtang a few times, and finally made up her mind. She said with a smile while bowing down, “This servant thanks Prince An for sparing her life, and also many thanks to Princess An.”
As she spoke, she trembled and pretended to calmly walk towards the inner palace, but as soon as she was out of Xie Xuanchen’s sight, she immediately ran away.
Mu Mingtang, who was silent until now, pouted and gave a slight push to Xie Xuanchen, “You said you have a perfect way, but it turned out to be such a poor excuse?”
Xie Xuanchen chuckled lightly, “In the end, what matters are the results and not how we made it.”
Xie Xuanchen didn’t care how he got My Mingtang out of the palace and didn’t feel that his excuse was lame at all. “Anyway, no matter what I say, who dares to question me and not listen to my words?”
