Chapter 456
Mu Mingtang was surprised and couldn’t help but stand up from her seat, “Seriously?”
“Yes.”
Before Mu Mingtang had time to ask in detail, she suddenly heard a deep and dull sound coming from outside. Mu Mingtang was taken aback and hurried out to take a look.
At this moment, the streets and alleys were full of happy people and everyone was telling each other, “The Beirong people have withdrawn their troops!”
Some people started crying while talking while others cried and laughed at the same time, all seeming to be very excited. Most of the people on the streets behaved like this.
Ye Luji retreated and they had won the first battle.
Mu Mingtang felt relieved but felt anxious again. She quickly asked the servant who had just informed her about the news, “Where is the Prince? Is he injured?”
The servant shook her head. She also heard the news from others, so how could she know the details on the battlefield? Mu Mingtang looked up to the end of the street and could only hold back her worry and wait.
Xie Xuanchen didn’t come back until it was very late. As soon as Mu Mingtang heard the voices in the yard, she immediately dropped the things in her hands and ran out the door. Xie Xuanchen was giving instructions about feeding the horses. When he turned around and saw Mu Mingtang, he immediately smiled.
When Mu Mingtang saw him standing in front of him with every part of his body seemingly intact, she felt her heart return to its true state. Tears welled up in her eyes. Regardless of whether there were people outside, she immediately threw herself into Xie Xuanchen’s arms, “Why did you come back only now? Are you injured?”
“No,” Xie Xuanchen stretched out his hand to catch Mu Mingtang firmly and held her in his arms naturally. “It took a long time to make a head count, so I came back late. I will have someone tell you next time and I won’t let you wait for nothing.”
As Xie Xuanchen spoke, he gestured to the people behind him with his eyes. Were you all blind? Why are you guys still here?
A few of his men followed suit and quietly left, taking away the horses before leaving altogether.
When the Prince and Princess talk, not even animals could be left behind, let alone humans.
Xie Xuanchen scared away the unimportant people with his eyes. His gaze was fierce, but his tone of voice when speaking to Mu Mingtang was still gentle, “It’s okay, I won’t be hurt. If you don’t believe me, why don’t you go into the house to check on me?”
Xie Xuanchen took Mu Mingtang back to the house. At this moment, the servant had disappeared and they were the only two left inside. After Mu Mingtang returned to the house, she felt emotional as if she was a child.
She wiped the tears from her eyes, feeling a little embarra.s.sed, “Who wants to check on you?”
