Chapter 482
“It doesn’t matter,” Mu Mingtang didn’t care much about the t.i.tle. Prince An was a t.i.tle appointed by the Emperor, but King Qiyang a t.i.tle that Xie Xuanchen had earned himself through battles. He became famous in the first battle in Qiyang, and so this t.i.tle originally meant became a symbol of his military exploits.
Although King Qiyang was just a county king and Prince An was the t.i.tle of a direct Prince, in which the latter was a rank higher, Xie Xuanchen himself preferred the t.i.tle of King Qiyang.
1st Madam Xu no longer dwelled on this topic. She felt sorry inside and said, “No matter how much time and effort the child takes, I really feel bad about your Highness being so kind. I don’t know if Your Highness has any use for me? If there’s anything I could help with at all, go ahead and please say it.”
Mu Mingtang thought for a while before she really remembered something, “I wonder if 1st Madam can ride a horse? I have always wanted to learn to ride one. When we were negotiating the peace treaty before, I even thought about learning to ride a horse with the Princess of the Tayan tribe. But then nothing came of it and thus, the horse riding lessons were delayed.”
1st Madam Xu was startled when she heard this before she laughed heartily, “What’s so difficult about this? Princess, you asked the right person. Our family is not good at anything else, but we are very good at wielding swords and weapons. My body has become weak in the past few years, so I’m not as good as the young ones, but they are all good at it. The 3rd couple are good at the whip and the 5th couple have been trained in the arts of the ancestral spear— most times they come out victorious when it comes to that weapon. The 6th pair are good at horseback archery. Plus, even if the 4th pair are slightly frail, they will have no problem getting on a horse. If Your Highness doesn’t mind the 6th Madam’s impatient temper, she can also be the spotter for your session(2).”
(T/N: To not be confused, the Senior couple have 7 sons. 6 got married, so there should be 6 Madams in the house. Among them, the 1st Madam has at least a daughter who is the 6th Young Lady. And because I a.s.sume she was one of the first to be wedded in, her daughter should be of a marriageable age. Any children birthed by the Master and Madams will be referred to as Young Lady or Young Master. I got this all mixed up when translating, so I needed to fact check)
Mu Mingtang was surprised. So 1st Madam Xu was the weakest among them all? Even 4th Lady Xu, who looked the most frail, could apparently draw a bow and shoot an arrow.
Mu Mingtang was a little sad. Even if she knew that she couldn’t compare to Xie Xuanchen in both civil and military skills, she was still crushed by everyone when she arrived at the Xu family. She endured her grief and nodded, saying, “Thank you, 1st Madam. I don’t know anything at all when it comes to any military skills, so if any of the women have the time to spare, I don’t mind either giving me some pointers.”
Mu Mingtang’s original intention was not to start a big fuss, so as not to cause trouble to the Xu family. Unexpectedly, the next day, all the Madams present in the Xu family came to teach her how to ride a horse.
