Chapter IBMLS Ch.62 The wedding (4)
“Prince Jin is the groom today. I dare not accept your greetings.” Mu Mingtang said modestly, but she didn’t budge, and accepted Xie Xuanji’s bow. She waited for Xie Xuanji to finish, and then said: “I was going to take care of your second brother, I shouldn’t show up on such an occasion that was more suited for the younger one, but I heard that Princess Jin wanted to invite me to your wedding. I had to pay respect to my new sister-in-law, so I came. I’m not late, right?”
“Not at all.” Xie Xuanji lowered his gaze slightly in front of Mu Mingtang, he was very proper, “Second sister-in-law’s presence brings light to us by coming in person. How could we say that you’re late? We’re very grateful that you came.
A group of people behind him also laughed and said, “Princess Qiyang is being too modest.”
“That’s good.” Mu Mingtang didn’t feel uncomfortable at her ex-fiancé’s wedding. Instead, she smiled and raised her hand at Xie Xuanji. “My wise brother, go ahead, my sister-in-law’s veil hasn’t been lifted yet. If it isn’t the groom that lifts up the red veil on the wedding night, it’s bad luck.”
Jiang Mingwei, who was under the veil, seemed to move slightly. She almost replaced her, oh no, the Princess Jin, who had successfully replaced her in her previous life, said the word “bad luck” in front of her. This was already the most unlucky thing. Upon noticing Jiang Mingwei’s movement, the dowry maid quickly tugged on Jiang Mingwei’s sleeve, and Jiang Mingwei held herself back.
On this happy day, Xie Xuanji didn’t want it to be destroyed by Mu Mingtang, so he forced his anger down, and nodded to the matron of honor: “Let’s continue.”
All of the matron of honor smiled immediately, they sprinkled fruits of all five colors and said auspicious words over and over again. Lifting the veil was undoubtedly the highlight of the day, and they were of course much more particular as it was the prince’s wedding. There were a few auspicious small rituals they had to go through before lifting the veil. A few of the matron of honor sang and said their blessings. Xie Xuanji followed the ceremony officer’s instructions one by one, and the people watching the ceremony inevitably helped lift the mood.
Mu Mingtang was the Princess of Qiyang. When the emperor and the empress didn’t leave the palace, she was the highest positioned royal family in the capital. No one dared to stand in front of her, and not to mention, approach her. The wedding room was lively, besides the semicircular empty s.p.a.ce around Mu Mingtang.
Mu Mingtang witnessed it in person today, only to realize how particular weddings were. She listened to all kinds of blessings that were being said, and she suddenly felt disappointed.
It’s a waste of time, she dressed up intentionally and came to her ex’s wedding to show off. What’s the point of that? With this time, she could head back and accompany her pretty boy.
Upon thinking of Xie Xuanchen, Mu Mingtang was in a daze. She wasn’t in the manor today, Xie Xuanchen had to stay alone in Yu Lin Hall, will he be okay? It was fine if she wasn’t thinking of this. However, when she did, the more she thought about it, the more she felt uneasy. Mu Mingtang wanted to go back immediately, but Xie Xuanji hadn’t lifted the veil. She was embarra.s.sed to leave at this moment, otherwise she’ll look like she still has feelings for her old lover, Xie Xuanji.
On Xie Xuanji’s side, the warm up was finally over. He picked up the scale from the red plate and was about to walk over to lift up the veil. Suddenly, panicked shouts sounded from outside.
Those voices came from quite some distance but they sounded fl.u.s.tered, and even the noise from the wedding banquet was covered by them.
Mu Mingtang’s expression changed, and at this moment, the person who shouted ran over: “My lord, something terrible has happened, Prince Qiyang has gone crazy!”
