Chapter Thirteen
Past and Future.

'That's all? This is the most crucial part! Let me have another glimpse of it; I need to know what decision Long Fei-li made! Did he go to Xian Yantai or did he return to Xuesong Palace?' The woman said urgently.

'Would knowing his decision change things?' A bland voice replied.

'It appears not.'

'Then why do you want to continue seeing it?'

'Liujing, please, I beg you.'

The man scoffed, 'Is there a need to continue seeing? Not only is Nian Xuanji a half-dead woman, she is also a traitor. If I were Long Fei-li, I would definitely not go to Xian Yantai.'

'That's you, not him!'

'No matter his decision, this matter is no longer of your concern, Zhu Qi.'

'If that is so, then why, despite collecting my soul from Nian Xuanji's body earlier, did you allow me to return to say those last words to him?'

The man laughed. 'Ah Qi, for him, you can sacrifice even your life. If I didn't do this, you will really be too miserable.'

Silence.

Liujing continued, 'All of this was merely an ill-fated meeting. Why do you miss it? Just rest here for a moment while I make your arrangements.'

'No, how can this be an ill-fated meeting? He loved me,' she laughed, a low sound. 'I loved him too.'

'When Nian Xuanji’s body revives, the one he loves will no longer be you. That is why I allowed you to say your final words and leave a memory of yourself in his heart.'

The woman smiled, 'The one he loves is my character. Even if another soul were to enter Xuanji's body, he will… he will…'

'Who knows?' Liujing said softly, 'Why did you choose to hide the truth from him if you wanted to be with him? If you hadn't done so, he would never have imprisoned you and you wouldn't be here today.'

'You're well aware that he will die if I told him the truth of what happened at Yanxia.'

Liujing lifted his lips in a faint smile which did not reach his eyes.

'All the better if he dies,' he said abruptly, turning to leave. With a wave of his arm, the door snapped shut behind him.

The room was chilly and desolate, littered with strange antiques.

A woman stood in the middle of the room, staring blankly at the two sides of an ancient bronze mirror displayed before her.

One side was called History, the other side Future.

Whoever stood before this mirror would be able to see both his past and future.

Etched onto the Future mirror was the image of the Emperor Qingjia of Xi Liang, his brows creased. The image was frozen in place. Long Fei-li's decision to go to Xian Yantai or Xuesong Palace was now a mystery as Liujing had used his power to seal the Future mirror, preventing her from finding out the choice he would make.

Now, all she could see was the past, recorded in the History mirror.

Her name was Zhu Qi. A few minutes ago, or perhaps even earlier on, she had been in another era, in a country called Xi Liang, in the body of a woman named Nian Xuanji.

Now, it was the year 2010 in a country named China, and this was an old antique shop.

Zhu Qi stared at the History mirror. Within the swirling mists of the mirror was the reflection of her past, depicting everything that happened to her and the others whose lives had intersected with hers.
