-Chapter 19 (COTW)-
Yanxuan’s head was only filled with the incident that had happened before, unable to stop thinking about it.
She touched her lips that were still moist, senselessly looking ahead, her body moving moving on instinct towards a familiar direction. When she came back to her senses, she found herself already at the door of her house.
Eh, where was she originally headed to? Yanxuan beat her head in distress.
The courtyard was eerily silent, her family members seemed to be out on a holiday. The only people left were the elderly staying in her house. Her dad could not dismiss them after seeing their pitiful circ.u.mstances, and hence took them in, letting them have a slightly easier life.
That’s right, Butler Tang’s home. She originally wanted to invite the doctor, just now she got delayed for too long and actually forgot. She agitatedly turned around, about to find Doctor Sun, but she met an old man with a head full of white hair propped on a crutch walking over looking at her. He looked like he had found salvation, and almost shed tears.
“Young, young girl…”
“What happened?” His frantic expression almost let Yanxuan’s heart cough up despair, catching in her throat.
“Tang, Butler Tang, he…” Before his voice died down, her pet.i.te form had already rushed to Butler Tang’s room.
It’s fine…he should be fine, it’s just a small cold, he was still playing and laughing with her not long ago… Yanxuan silently consoled herself, sucked in a breath of air, and pushed open the door.
In the moment Yanxuan opened the door, she felt like her heart in her throat was about to jump out.*
*(Heart in one’s mouth is when someone is extremely anxious or worried)
Butler Tang’s face was deathly pale, lying on the bed panting breathlessly, his brows knitted, as if he was in intense pain.
At his side, a doctor shook his head, expressing that he was helpless and bowed to Yanxuan, swinging his sleeve and leaving.
What did he mean? Yanxuan grabbed his clothes and questioned him.
“Butler Tang…what’s wrong with him?” Her voice was unusually calm. Only the slight trembling of her fingertips revealed the fear in her heart.
Another old servant walked to her while trembling and respectfully replied. “Old Nu wanted to come in and sweep the floor today, but never thought he’d find Butler Tang fainted on the floor… He quickly invited the doctor, but he said…”
“Said what?”
“Said…only the miracle Doctor Sun can help him.”
Yanxuan shut her eyes. When all was said and done, it was her that delayed Butler Tang’s sickness. If she hadn’t dazed off and forgot about inviting Doctor Sun, Doctor Sun would have long arrived.
She turned again, her tone flat yet determined. “I’ll go find Doctor Sun.”
“Wait, young lady…Doctor Sun won’t come…”
Won’t come? Don’t tell me he expected Butler Tang himself to personally find him?
The light rain from the sky was cold and dismal. Yanxuan opened her umbrella, ready to find Doctor Sun.
Butler Tang, he must definitely wait for her to come back…
Her clothes were already dripping wet from the rain, pasting uncomfortably onto her body and making Yanxuan’s body feel heavy. In a fit of carelessness, she stepped on her long dress, falling to the ground. Her legs and arms were cut, and fresh blood started oozing out. Among the raindrops, the blood was like ruby; dazzling to the eyes.
The blood on her hand rubbed onto her clothes. Gritting her teeth, she abandoned her umbrella, continuing to run forward.
The rain got heavier and heavier, every raindrop fell like beans onto her pet.i.te form, chilling her to the bones.
After reaching her destination, Yanxuan revealed a brilliant smile on her soaked face.
The Huichun hall which was packed with people in its former days was instead desolate, without a single person waiting. The windows and doors were shut, soaked with rain, the entire place appearing quiet and cold. Pedestrians walking by on the streets carried their umbrellas while hurriedly rus.h.i.+ng back to their warm homes.
She staggered to the door of the Huichun hall, loudly knocking on the door while shouting with all her might. “Doctor Sun! Doctor Sun quickly open the door!”
She repeated this a few times, and someone inside eventually opened the door lazily. Doctor Sun’s wrinkled face appeared, and his tired eyes swept across Yanxuan. “What happened?”
This doctor is really getting old, last time he was still happily chitchatting with Li Si and her, now he was like a stranger looking at her. Yanxuan didn’t bother explaining, pulling him out of the doorway. “Doctor Sun, quick, someone’s about to die!”
“Someone’s about to die?” Doctor Sun threw off her hand and stiffly said. “This place has an established custom for many years: If the patient doesn’t come personally, don’t imagine the doctor to treat him.”
There was actually this custom, Yanxuan really didn’t know. However, how much did it matter now? “Doctor Sun, a human’s life is beyond value, don’t tell me you expect a person who fainted and fell to bring his bed and fly to find you?”
“Then you can carry that person who fainted and fell over here.”
-Chapter 19, done-
Zzz took me extra long cause I lost my draft. I’m glad to see some people still following this novel despite it being dropped for months, and also pleased to see the positive responses.
