Chapter 44 : Their Circ.u.mstances

"Ah that's right. When Ken-san got married, they celebrated it by holding a wedding ceremony. Do you want to have a wedding ceremony too, Ren-chan?~"

"Eh? I'm a man! I never had any desire to do such thing!"

Wedding ceremony..

I didn't know whether people in Alsar would wore a wedding dress or suit during their wedding reception.

But.. If they were..

No matter how I think about it, won't I be the one that had to wear a dress?!

After all my partner was these three ikemen! Look at them! And then look at me!

It was obvious I would be the one that had to wear a dress!

"Back in your previous world, is there anything specific that people need to follow before marriage?" Fer-san asked.

"Umm.. Usually the man need to come to the women's house and asked for her parent's blessing for their marriage. After that they need to tell their close relatives and friends. I don't really know if there's anything specific for women aside from that. Especially for same s.e.x couple. Same s.e.x couple is already rare back in j.a.pan so I don't know if there's some sort of procedure that they need to follow or not."

That was all I knew.

I've never attended any wedding ceremony back in j.a.pan before so my knowledge was only to that extend.

"Hmm~ In Alsar, usually only the royalties that have a wedding ceremony. Ah!~ Isn't Fer a royalty?"

"Yes, but I've renounced my rights to the throne. Well, I have 4 older brothers and the eldest, Lucien-aniue which is the crown prince, was already married but I was out of country when Lucien-anieue was about to get married so I didn't attend the ceremony. The second oldest one is Eduardo-aniue but he's not married yet, same with Lily. As for me, I never had any intention to marry before I met Ren-kun so I never had any need to look up the wedding ceremony procedure before."

If I wasn't wrong, Mr.Edo was 35 years old and Princess Lily was 17 years old.

Also, Ms.Lily's mother was an other-worlder like me.. Her name was Mrs.Manami or something.

Ah I wanted to try and meet her but.. Seemed like it was going to be hard for a commoner like me to meet with a royalty like her.

"Umm.. What does Mrs.Manami looks like? I mean, I never meet any other-worlder before so I'm curious to know what kind of person she is."

"Mrs.Manami.. She's..a little hard to describe. How about if we go and meet with her after we got married? I also want to introduce Ren-kun to my father, my mother and to mother Esther as well."

Hm? Fer-san's father was the king so that meant his mother would be the queen but who was this 'mother Eshter'?

"Who is mother Esther?"

"Ah yes, my mother is the one that gave birth to me. Her name's Sophia and mother Esther is my father's second wife. She loved me as if I was her own child so I called her mother Esther. My mother gave birth to the first and second prince. I'm her last son, the fifth prince. Mother Esther gave birth to the first princess, third prince and the fourth prince. The two of them are very close with each other."

I see.

Mr.Eduardo did tell me that the king had three wives.

"And Mrs.Manami, she's my father's third wife. They got married when I was already 9 years old. She's only 13 years older than me which makes her only 3 years older than my eldest, Lucien-aniue so all of us brothers call her Mrs.Manami."

"I see, I guess it'd be awkward to call someone as mother when her age is not that far apart from you."

Just how many the age differences between the king and Mrs.Manami?!

She was only 3 years older than his eldest son..

Ah that's right! Usually we had to greet each other's parents before marrying, right?

"Before I forget again, I want to know whether the people in Alsar has to greet each other's parents before marrying or not?"

"Hmm~ Since the engagement period in here is so short like only for a week and there's a lot of people that they need to inform so usually the time is not sufficient, so the people just got married and tell the rest of their relatives afterwards! There are some cases where their family opposed to their marriage but since they're already married there's not much they can do anyway, right?~"

W-Won't I get opposed as well?

I mean Fer-san was a royalty and Chris-san was a n.o.bleman while I was only an ordinary commoner!

If their families were to oppose of our marriage so bad, wouldn't we had to get a divorce afterwards?!

"Well for me, I've entrusted the family matter to my younger brother so there's nothing to worry about. What's more, my father has two wives and they're both in bad terms with each other. When I was born, my mother was delighted but a few months later the other wife also gave birth to a son! Things get more complicated afterwards because both sons are eligible to inherit the house. Our mother forced us to fight for inheritance and in the end I decided it was too troublesome and denounced myself afterwards."

A younger brother with only a few months difference huh..

Because polygamous marriage was normal in Alsar, a lot of troublesome things occurred huh.

I thought since illegitimate child was not possible in Alsar because they need to eat Yam fruit together, there shouldn't be any complicated trouble with the inheritance and all.

Now that I think about it, since Chris-san had gave up his right to inherit the house, won't his mother started to think that Chris-san should've gotten married to a good family instead?

"So Chris-san you decided to step down because you wanted to stop the dispute between your mothers?"

"At first, yes but I also honestly thought that Alex was a better candidate than me. Since both of us are of same age and I preferred to become an adventurer, I decided to just push everything to Alex instead~"

I thought Chris-san was the type that never had any problems in his life but turned out he had been through some rough things before.

After all even when we were in the middle of a fight, Chris-san seemed like he was having so much fun, he looked so sparkly while cheerfully slas.h.i.+ng the monster away.

He looked like someone who would get in fight just for the sake of it but turned out I was wrong.

Chris-san actually was very considerate and thoughtful person huh.

"As for me, all of my parents are already deceased, so maybe the only one I need to tell is the orphanage's director."

Sig-san who was silently listening to us while drinking tea, suddenly jumped into the conversation.

"Eh? Is that so?"

That was right, I never heard Sig-san talked about his family before.

"Yeah, my parents died when I was 9 years old. You see,my mother and her other 3 husbands were an adventurer. They died during a mission and ever since then I was left in the care of the imperial capital orphanage until I was 15. After that, I did a lot of works to get by. I wasn't really picky with my work, I pretty much did everything but in the end I choose to become an adventurer, just like my parent.

"Oh.. I see.."

I didn't know what else to say.

To think Sig-san lost all 4 members of his family at the same time..

I must be looking very dejected because Sig-san immediately added,"Ren, I don't think I'm a pitiful one, you know? The people at the orphanage were a bunch of good folks. It is thanks to them that I managed to become what I am right now. Ah, but I'm also really proud of my parents. They fought with all of their might to defeat the monster. Even though it resulted in their death, I still feel very proud of them."

"I see, seems like Sig-san is surrounded by a lot of splendid people."

Sig-san looked very proud of his parents, they must be really strong like him.

"That's right. My mother was a wolf beastman and I have 3 fathers. One was a rabbit beastman, one was a crow beastman and the last one was an ordinary human.  I was the only child they had. You see, my mother really enjoyed being an adventurer, she never took a day off even when she was pregnant! I didn't know which one was my biological father since I inherited my mother's wolf's gene but all of them loved me the same!"

"For her to become so dedicated at her work, I guess being an adventurer was Sig-san's mother true calling."

Malik-san had told me before that whatever your gender were didn't matter since both genders could carry a child but I never thought that a beastman and human could have a child together.

Since beastman looked like the combination between an animal and human, no one could differ whether one was a half beastman or not.

Well, even though beastman had animal characteristic, they were not an animal so I guess there was not much difference between them and ordinary human.

Ah, I also had seen a turtle beastman with a carapace and cat beastman with kitty paw in the town before.

They might had animal ears and tails but their general appearance was exactly like ordinary human being.  

Oh they also had better hearing and sense of smell I guess?

And the last thing, if the parents were to eat the yam fruits together and they wanted to know who was the biological parent of their child, maybe they could go to the church to have an examination? Or something?

Ah, the church in this world had to cover a lot of ground huh, from marriage even to divorce.

"Yes, my mother was a sort of battle maniac. She always took subjugation quest, no matter how dangerous the quest was she would stood tall as the vanguard with my fathers as her support. The others told me that my mother was a sight to behold as she kept on taking quest after quest while carrying me in her stomach. "

"Whoa.. That.. I think I would be speechless if I were to see something like that. She's really an amazing person!"

How should I say it.. Sig-san's mother seemed like a really cool person! A girl crush type!

I wonder if she also wield a big sword with both of her hands like Sig-san?

"Sig's mother is really famous you know~ Since she was accompanied by three male entourages, people gave her the nickname 'Empress Merinda'. The line of men aspired to become part of her party was endless!~"

"An empress.. Wow.."

What a great nickname…

Since she had a nickname that meant she was at least ranked then.

Ah.. I wish I could meet her at least once..

"You know what? Even when they weren't able to become part of her party, they would say that they were fine being her servant! They also tried to approach me because I was her only son. I was still a kid back then and I thought that those kind of men were really creepy."

Sig-san reminisced his childhood story with a faraway look on his face.

Well, I guess the sight of a grown man trying to curry favor to a little child was pretty disturbing if I have to say it myself.

So..

A prince, a n.o.bleman, an orphan…

All of my fiance came from a different background but we were able to overcome our differences and grew close together.

Well, I also an other-worlder that got adopted by a certain guild master so I guess my family background was pretty unusual as well.
