Qu Feiyun lowered her head and weakly followed Qu Feiqing’s orders . Her shoulders slumped as she imagined the impending doom prepared for her .

Two books, two times, she felt her hands’ joints would be badly dislocated just by the mere thought of it . There really was no escaping this fate .

“Honored musician, I will go ahead now . Till we meet again . ” Qu Feiyun smiled faintly and walked out of the garden without saying her ritual farewell to Qu Feiqing .

Looks like she’s walking out of here in a dignified manner, Su Xin thought amusingly to herself .

From the day she first met Qu Feiqing to this very moment, Su Xin has witnessed how the emperor’s intimidating att.i.tude made people around her hover in fear .

Her nephew was so sensitive to her presence that he couldn’t help but s.h.i.+ver when she was near . On the other hand, Qu Feiyun’s cheeky countenance went fast downhill as soon as soon as she heard Qu Feiqing’s voice . In a split second, her expression changed to a sullen mask .

If Qu Feiqing wanted to be a tyrant in the eyes of others, Su Xin had no say to this—it wasn’t in her place to do so, in the first place . The thing she could only focus on is her mission and the matters concerning her .

“This emperor has underestimated you . Contrary to my initial judgement of you, you’ve already managed to meet this emperor’s nephew and younger sister in just a short time . And have  spoken to both with such familiarity . ”

Qu Feiqing went into the pavilion and occupied the place where Qu Feiyun had just sat, close to Su Xin . She leaned her head against the rail of the bench with her eyes closed, trying to unknot her tensed muscles .  

“It’s still nothing compared to your majesty’s good fortune . How could they have been interested in me if it hadn’t been for your Majesty’s bringing me?” Su Xin’s voice was quite cheerful .

Her praises were to console Qu Feiqing’s doubts about her, yet the emperor looked like she wasn’t convinced at all . She didn’t budge an inch from her seat nor looked at Su Xin . She remained silent as though she didn’t heard a thing, a striking disparity from her sister’s boisterous demeanor .

“As I said, I’m only here for your Majesty, and no one else is my object of concern . ” Su Xin felt the need to add some flavor to her small speech . She looked at Qu Feiqing with her sincerest expression .

Still, Qu Feiqing did not open her eyes . She was afraid that she might not be able to conceal her emotions once she had a look at Su Xin’s face .

She could feel needles p.r.i.c.king her heart . It was so ironic how she, whose heart couldn’t be swayed even by her own sister, was hurting so bad over a girl irrelevant to the eyes of many .  

Why did she bring this girl into her territory anyway?

It was because of that sinister smile .

A smile that was a reflection of her own . G.o.d knows how she desired to see it once more, so she teased Su Xin at every turn . Disappointingly, she didn’t see it again—not in imperial palace .

Her brows creased as a horrible idea entered her mind . Could it be because of the first night they unexpectedly had gotten intimate with each other, Su Xin became more guarded with her feelings and refused to acknowledge the complicated relations.h.i.+p brewing between the two of them?

She cared about Su Xin, this was the only fact she could think of clearly beyond the jam of emotions .

Qu Feiqing doesn’t neglect who she cares about, as it was a big deal for her to be emotionally invested in someone other than her deceased mother .
