The servants in the house were busy with their duties when they saw Lu Zhaoyang joining them. Suddenly, with an unspoken agreement, they stopped working. Some of them even began to snack on melon seeds and chat.

One of them spoke aloud to Lu Zhaoyang, “This room has to be spotless. Old Mrs Huo likes to relax in here, do you understand?”

Lu Zhaoyang looked at the maidservant coldly and said, “If that’s the case, shouldn’t you be leaving with your melon seeds? As a mere servant, do you really want to disrespect her by enjoying your melon seeds in her favourite room?”

Lu Zhaoyang was not meek by nature.

What was the servant thinking, challenging her like this was some kind of period drama?

The servant quickly pocketed her melon seeds and left the room.

Lu Zhaoyang started cleaning the room without much expression. She carefully wiped the jade ornaments in the room.

A porcelain object hit the floor and was smashed to pieces.

Seconds later, the servant who smashed the porcelain vase ran into an adjacent room and started cleaning again, pretending as though nothing had happened.

“Madam, Lu Zhaoyang was eating melon seeds in your room. You asked her to clean the place, but she did something like that instead… I lectured her a bit, but she…”

The servant was speaking against Lu Zhaoyang to old Mrs Huo behind her back.

Lu Zhaoyang was speechless. The servant was shameless to accuse her like this.

Before the old lady could respond, another servant outside started screaming, “Ah! Who smashed old Mr Huo’s favourite vase?”

“What are you screaming for?” Old Mrs Huo yelled. She was old and could not stand loud noises.

“Who broke the vase?” She looked at the broken porcelain pieces on the floor and then stepped into the room.

“It’s… Lu Zhaoyang!”

Lu Zhaoyang looked at all the servants with disappointment at their att.i.tude toward her just because she had lost the old madam’s favour.

No one was willing to speak up for her. Unless the room had CCTV, she would never be able to prove her innocence.

“Lu Zhaoyang, if you’re dissatisfied, you should come speak to me! Are you destroying furnitures in the house on purpose? I caught you this time, but are you thinking about smas.h.i.+ng more things in future?”

Old Mrs Huo stomped toward Lu Zhaoyang and yelled angrily.

“I did not do this.” Lu Zhaoyang replied, knowing full well that her denial would be futile.

“You didn’t? Then why is everyone blaming you for it? They have nothing against you, don’t they?”
