Dong Xuebing exited his apartment building and flagged a cab by the roadside. He got in the front pa.s.senger seat.

The driver asked. “Where are you going?”

Dong Xuebing replied. “Drive straight.”

The driver was puzzled. “Drive straight? Where do you want to go?”

“I will tell you when you reach.” Dong Xuebing replied.

The driver shook his head and drove towards Third Ring Road.

Dong Xuebing took out his phone and called Tan Limei, who worked in State Security.

Ring… ring… ring…

“h.e.l.lo, Xuebing.” Tan Limei answered.

Dong Xuebing asked. “Tan Zi, give me the address for the Beijing City Bureau.”

Tan Limei paused for a second. “City Bureau? Public Security Bureau?”

Dong Xuebing replied. “Not Public Security. Is your City Bureau. Tell me the address.”

“What happened? Why do you sound so angry, and why do you need the City Bureau address?”

“You don’t need to know. I need to settle something. I know the address is confidential, but it is not a secret. Many people know the address. I am not involved in this area and have not visited there. You worked at the branch for many years. You should know where it is.”

“Fine. I will ask someone else.”

The driver nodded and started driving towards the north.

“Xiao Mei? Didn’t you go to the meeting?”

“The meeting has not started. I need to tell you something. Xuebing called me earlier to ask for the City Bureau’s address. His tone does not seem right. I… I… feel uneasy.”

The building is located along a secluded street. It has no signage and other tall buildings nearby. Many cars enter and leave the premises through the metal gate. It was crowded.

A cab stopped.

Dong Xuebing paid the driver and got out. He looked at the main gates across the street and knew that was the place. He walked towards it.

The City Bureau has an important meeting today.

Although the meeting had not started, most of the partic.i.p.ants were there.

“Director Chen, you are here.”

“Chief Song. Nice to meet you.”

“Let’s go in. We can talk inside.”

“Are the leaders here? What time does the meeting start?”

“9.30 a.m. But Chief Jiang was hospitalized yesterday for a fever. I think the meeting will be delayed to 10 a.m. There’s no rush.”

Dong Xuebing recalled the information he had of Jiang Song. Although he left State Security, he knows about him. Sister Xu had mentioned him before. Her ex-husband got promoted because of him. More people came.

The main gate is for vehicles. All vehicles stopped and showed their work pa.s.ses before they were allowed to enter. People walking in through the side gate were checked, too. Security checked everyone, even if they knew them.

Dong Xuebing walked over.

A few office buildings are inside the compound, and the outside of a building was parked full of cars. Many people were standing outside of that building, too. Some were chatting, and some were smoking.

The meeting had not started, and many people did not enter the meeting hall.

Dong Xuebing’s eyes were sharp. He saw two familiar figures among the crowd. One was Tan Limei, and the other was his former leader, Zhen Guoan.

Tan Limei kept looking towards the entrance, and she spotted Dong Xuebing. She was about to run towards him.

But Dong Xuebing raised his hand to stop Tan Limei. He was here to take revenge and did not want to implicate Tan Limei.

Dong Xuebing’s phone had been ringing nonstop. He looked at the caller, and it was Xu Yan again. He knew what she was going to say and did not answer. She can tolerate getting hit, but he cannot.
