Chapter 163 Having Rules for Treating Patients
Xin Changjiang and Xin Zhiyu quickly walked up to Fan Huaying, followed by Li Xiaofeng. Those several young people in the upper cla.s.s who were called by Li Xiaofeng also wanted to join in the fun, asking for an autograph to show off in the circle of friends, but they all stopped after Li Xiaofeng gave them a glare.
Then the door of the helicopter's c.o.c.kpit opened and a blonde stepped out. She was at least 185 centimeters tall, and she had a delicate face with clear lines. Besides, her deep blue eyes were as deep and mysterious as the sea. Instead of a pilot's flight suit, she wore a blouse and skirt that outlined her impeccable body. She had a pair of long legs with delicate and white skin and looking powerful.
But her figure had one obvious flaw—her small b.r.e.a.s.t.s. Her b.r.e.a.s.t.s were so small as a man's that she didn't need to wear a bra, which she didn't seem to wear.
Just like some men liked to cross the mountains, while some warriors liked to gallop on the gra.s.sland, in pursuit of a smooth, some people liked plump b.r.e.a.s.t.s, while some people liked small b.r.e.a.s.t.s.
The blonde stepped down from the c.o.c.kpit and soon caught up with Fan Huaying.
As he walked, Fan Huaying searched for the person he most wanted to see, but he didn't see that dynamic, handsome face.
“Mr. Barnes, Mr. Fan, what are you doing here? You grace my house with your presence!” Xin Changjiang quickened his pace. A few steps away from Fan Huaying who led the way, his hands reached out, ready to shake Fan Huaying's.
Fan Huaying stopped to look for Ning Tao for the time being and took a few quick steps. He held out his hands and shook hands with Xin Changjiang, with a big smile on his face. “Mr. Xin, I'm sorry I didn't call you first. I didn't mean to. Mr. Barnes didn't want to reveal his whereabouts. Is that all right that we come uninvited?”
“Sure. As I have already said, you grace my house with their presence. Mr. Fan, please introduce me to Mr. Barnes. I had the pleasure of having dinner with him once, but I think he has forgotten me.” Xin Changjiang smiled awkwardly and looked expectantly at Barnes, who was being escorted towards him by the two black bodyguards. Barnes' arrival really pleased him. Thus, if he casually put out a message that this wolf of Wall Street wanted to invest in Grand Dream Company, his company's stock would surged up!
Barnes' big, cake-like face could buy him at least three trading floors.
Fan Huaying leaned into the blonde's ear and whispered something.
The blonde nodded, then walked over to Barnes and told him something.
Barnes nodded.
“Mr. Xin, come with me,” Fan Huaying said.
“Thank you.” Xin Changjiang was thrilled.
Xin Zhiyu and Li Xiaofeng tried to follow, but Xin Changjiang glared at them both with an unpleasant look and whispered, “You two wait a minute. Don't bother Mr. Barnes.”
Xin Zhiyu and Li Xiaofeng were a little depressed, but they still stood there and waited.
Fan Huaying took Xin Changjiang to Barnes. A black bodyguard tried to search Xin Changjiang, but Barnes stopped him.
“I'm Barnes. I'm here for Doctor Ning. Do you know where he is?” Barnes asked in English of Californian accent.
Xin Changjiang's English was similar to that of a junior three student. He couldn't understand what Barnes was saying, but he pretended that he understood, and said, “Mr. Barnes, I am so honored to have you here.”
Barnes frowned because he could not understand Xin Changjiang.
“Mr. Xin, Mr. Barnes is here for Dr. Ning,” Fan Huaying explained. “Doctor Ning told me on the phone that he was here, so we flew in from Gang Island. Could you tell me where he is?”
Xin Changjiang looked stunned. “Doctor Ning? Which Doctor Ning?”
“Ning Tao, Doctor Ning,” Fan Huaying replied. “Mr. Barnes has a medical problem and wants Doctor Ning to see him.”
Xin Changjiang flashed back to the young man in casual clothes, carrying a broken wooden box and a folding fan. He immediately froze on the spot. When he learned that Barnes came to the Prosperous House by helicopter, he thought it was a G.o.dsend. He even thought that Barnes saw his Grand Dream Company and wanted to invest in it. It had never occurred to him that Barnes was only looking for the doctor, who was not ent.i.tled to sit at the table with him, and was asked to sit with the butler.
Not far from them, Xin Zhiyu and Li Xiaofeng heard their conversation, and their jaws dropped in amazement, especially Li Xiaofeng whose feelings were particularly complicated. In the Music-listening Building behind them, he had ordered some younger people to taunt and humiliate Ning Tao to make him leave Qing Zhui, only to find out that he was really a miracle doctor, and even the legendary Barnes had to come to see him!
The blonde asked in stiff Chinese, “Excuse me, is Doctor Ning here, please?”
It was a simple question, but Xin Changjiang did not know how to answer it. To be honest, he felt a sense of humiliation in his heart.
Fan Huaying pulled out his phone. Just as he was about to call Ning Tao, a familiar figure suddenly came into view. There was a sudden sense of relief in his heart and a grin was unfurling on his face. He raised his right arm, waved it vigorously, and shouted, “Tao, here, here!”
It was Ning Tao he saw.
Ning Tao, holding the Unbreakable Fan which was unfolded, shuffled toward the crowd with the small medicine chest slung over his shoulder. His image in no way connected him with the profession of doctor. Instead, he looked like a down-at-heel youth who went from street to street polis.h.i.+ng shoes.
All eyes were on him.
The blonde's eyes shone with confusion and doubts. “Mr. Fan, is… is that Doctor Ning you mentioned?”
Fan Huaying nodded and answered, “Yes, Miss Joanna. He is the Doctor Ning whom I recommended to Mr. Barnes. He's not a traditional doctor, so he looks different.”
Joanna was the blonde. She was one of many orphans adopted by Barnes, whose full name was Barnes Joanna. She had the highest education and the most rigorous combat training. She now played the all-powerful role around Barnes, the most important of which were a.s.sistant and bodyguard.
Fan Huaying's explanation obviously failed to convince Joanna to give up her confusion and doubts. “I must try his skill,” she uttered.
Fan Huaying smiled and said, “Doctor Ning has his rules about treating patients. You'd better be polite to him and not annoy him, or you might have come for nothing.”
Joanna's mouth slightly pouted. Apparently she didn't like what Fan Huaying said.
Ning Tao came over and looked at Joanna's face for a moment, then moved to the face of Barnes who was standing behind Joanna, and finally to Fan Huaying's face. “Is that old man the patient you brought?” he asked dully.
“Don't…you know Mr. Barnes?” Fan Huaying asked back, looking a little strange.
Ning Tao took another glance at Barnes and replied, “You mean the old man? Why should I know him?”
Fan Huaying was speechless. Ning Tao actually did not know Barnes, one of the several wolves on Wall Street, the “dangerous man” that many financial markets focused on preventing, and the big capital player whom Xin Changjiang and other businessmen regarded as their idols!
Joanna's mouth was more curled. She understood what Ning Tao was saying, and she didn't feel the “respect” he should have for Barnes.
Before Joanna could say a word, Xin Changjiang snapped darkly, “Ning Tao, what's your att.i.tude? How can you talk about Mr. Barnes like that?”
Ning Tao turned to Xin Changjiang and asked, “So how should I talk? Flatter him as a man of honor to me, and then ask for an autograph?”
“You…” Xin Changjiang was choked with angry emotion.
Xin Zhiyu and Li Xiaofeng had a fever of shame on their faces.
Joanna looked Ning Tao in the eye and stated, “Doctor Ning, we've come from America. It was not an easy trip. Before you begin treatment, I want to talk to you and get to know your condition. Is that all right?”
“You want to know what I've cured and what qualifications I have, don't you?” Ning Tao asked.
Joanna gave a nod.
“Sorry, I have my rules. I don't have to prove anything to any patient, “Ning Tao said calmly.
“You can't prove anything, can you?” Li Xiaofeng said sarcastically. “I've heard you say you haven't finished your interns.h.i.+p yet. You've got the medical license, but I a.s.sume you have no clinical experience, right? Are you qualified to treat Mr. Barnes when you are an intern instead of a doctor?”
“He must be pretending. He's a charlatan,” Xue Bao'er shouted deliberately.
Joanna's look changed and she asked, “Doctor Ning, are they telling the truth?”
Ning Tao gave a faint nod and replied, “It's true, I haven't got my medical degree yet.”
“My G.o.d!” Joanna spread her hands and turned to Fan Huaying. “Mr. Fan, are you kidding us?” she asked rudely.
Fan Huaying had no idea what to say.
“Is this patient important to you, Huaying?” Ning Tao inquired.
Fan Huaying nodded with a bitter smile on his face.
Ning Tao said, “Well, for your sake, I'll see him.” Then he walked over to Barnes, who was standing behind, watching him. In the meantime Ning Tao woke up his eyes and his nose to make them enter the state of looking and smelling.
Joanna grabbed Ning Tao's arm with her bare hand and questioned, “What do you want?”
“Mr. Barnes has kidney failure, prostatic hyperplasia which compresses the urethra and makes it difficult for him to urinate and painful for his kidneys,” Ning Tao said. “His face is not actually fat, but he has edema due to kidney failure. He is now too old for kidney replacement surgery, but if this continues like this, he could be in danger. At best, he will live a year, even in the current medical environment in the United States.”
Joanna's hand slipped from Ning Tao's shoulder. She appeared shocked.
Ning Tao looked back at Joanna and asked, “Do you want me to treat him?”
“Yes, of course!” Joanna answered excitedly, as if awakened from a dream.
Ning Tao grinned and said, “What you say doesn't count. What I say counts.”
Joanna suddenly froze on the spot.
