All of a sudden, a lovely, melodic voice filled the room along with the beats of the drums. Jayne's hands did an outward movement while her legs tapped to the steady beats.
Just when everybody were wondering who the singer of the melodic song was, Jayne slowly turned forward to reveal her gorgeous face along with her sweet voice. Though it was unplanned, the musicians quickly took a cue. They played along with Jayne's singing.
It is said that the language of music has no barriers. Likewise, though Jayne sang in a native Indian language, the musicians quickly picked up her soulful singing.
n.o.body in the audience realised this last minute cover-up done by Jayne. They were totally captivated by Jayne's presence on the dias and her hypnotic singing. Even, Ronnie was blown off his feet by her charm. 'This must be how my Maya looked.' He thought inwardly.
Jayne's chocolate brown eyes scanned through the entire crowd. She spotted her husband sitting right in front of her. Their eyes briefly met for a moment. She instantly let go of all the insecurities that she had moments ago and began dancing with renewed confidence and energy.
But Ronnie could sense something wasn't right. Her eyes spoke a thousand words. He felt uncomfortable. But as the dance progressed, he began to relax.
After sometime, the dance turned into a compet.i.tion called a "jugalbandi" between the drummer and Jayne. While the drummer played along, Jayne rythimatically swayed and spun around the stage in circles.
Each time she yanked her waist, her long braided hair flickered along sideways too. Every beat of her barefoot, every movement of her hands, her smile and expressions on her face left everyone wanting for more. She was pure magic, she was simply the best dancer ever produced.
Even Katherine Bradford herself was totally caught off-guard by Jayne's graceful performance. She was so immersed in her performance that she totally forgot that her plan had failed drastically and that Jayne successfully covered up the entire act.
She was suddenly brought back to reality. She looked at the crowd which was totally bewitched by Jayne. Anger began welling up inside her. She stormed outside the auditorium.
Everybody were so engrossed with Jayne's performance that none of them observed her storming out of the auditorium. But very soon, Emma and Ella Dalton walked out unwillingly.
"Argh! What's happenings here? All my plans failed at once? How's that even possible? First I tried to tamper with her dress and shoes. But she got an even more beautiful dress and she danced barefooted." Her anger sprang to life.
She looked at Emma Dalton, "Didn't I ask you to tamper with her music ca.s.sette?"
Emma Dalton stuttered, "Y-Yes Kate! We did just like you asked us to do. You very well know the music didn't play at all. Who knew that cheap woman is a singer as well?"
Katherine Bradford's rage quickened her blood. "How could she sing along with the music team just like that? Without any preparation?"
Just then, they were interrupted by a thunderous round of applause which made their voices inaudible. She stomped her foot, gnas.h.i.+ng her teeth, and walked towards the entrance. Fury vibrated through her entire being to such an extent that it almost costumed her.
The entire crowd had stood up to give a standing ovation to Jayne as she stood centre stage bowing gracefully to the crowd and the curtains were drawing to a close as the lights dimmed.
Katherine Bradford shook her head as she tamper down her frustration.
Finally she spoke, "Okay, let me head in first! I'll be sitting in the last row. We still have the dance performance with Ronnie Roy left. I've to get it by any chance. You know what you should be doing right? I don't want this to fail no matter what." Katherine Bradford hissed and went back to her seat.
"Okay Kate! Don't worry!" The Dalton sisters a.s.sured her and went towards the room where the box containing all the names were kept.
They replaced the names with papers of 'Katherine Barford.' They successfully completed their a.s.signed task.
The host got back on stage, "That was a breathtakingly scintillating performance by our student Jayne Roy. Let me ask our dear madam chief guess Ms Mahira Arora if she liked the performance since this performance was entirely dedicated to her."
"The very fact that the entire crowd was spellbound by her performance, shows how beautiful her performance was. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Such a young girl but a storehouse of talent. She has everything a dancer needs. Her lines and movements are perfectly defined. Above all, her lovely smile, I'm sure all the men here are enchanted by it." Ms Mahira Arora turned to look at the crowd.
"Woahh!" Came the cheerful applause from the crowd.
"See, didn't I tell you?" Ms Mahira Arora was elated on seeing Jayne's performance.
At that moment Ronnie excused himself and quickly went backstage when everyone's attention was on the conversation between the host and the chief guest.
At that same moment the Dalton sisters came back with a thumbs up. So, even they failed to notice Ronnie walking out.
