Seeing that he didn't come for long, Sanvi came back to check what was taking Virat so long.
Upon reaching, she saw him standing still and doing nothing. She called out, "Virat! Come back soon! It's about to rain. Let's get back home soon."
Virat continued to stand still like a rock even when he heard Sanvi calling him from behind.
Seeing no reaction from him, Sanvi walked up to him and dragged him away while Virat was so shocked at his own thoughts, that he didn't even refuse when she dragged him out of the pastry shop.
"Oh G.o.d Virat! What's wrong with you? You were totally fine till now!" She questioned him after walking some distance.
Virat seemed to have finally snapped back to his senses, "Sanvi!" he shouted. He then pulled away from her and dashed towards the pastry shop to check for the woman.
Sanvi's face turned horrific, "What on earth happened Virat? Why are you being so weird?" She retorted.
But, Virat didn't stop nor answer her. She'd no option but to follow him.
By the time Virat reached, the woman he was looking for was no longer there. Dejected, he asked the lady behind the counter. "Madam, there was a lady standing here just now. She was wearing a long trench coat. Could you please tell where is she? Did she leave already?"
The lady's forehead furrowed. "But Sir, why are you asking me all this?"
"Ma'am, it's because she resembles someone I know and have been searching for." Virat explained.
"But Sir, the lady left already." The woman behind the counter answered.
Virat's face paled.
Nevertheless, he tried to fish out some information from her. "Ma'am, could you please tell her name?"
"No, I can't reveal the details of our customers. I'm sorry sir!" The woman declared helplessly.
"Ma'am please, just her name! Nothing else. I do agree it's against business norms know reveal details of your customer without their consent. But Ma'am, she's my love and I've been searching for her everywhere. Please help me with just this!"
Since you sound honest, I can only tell her name and nothing else." The lady said.
"Sure Ma'am! That would suffice! I don't need anything else!" Virat pleaded.
The lady looked at the register and said, "Her name is Jayne Roy!"
"Jayne Roy?" Virat's lips drew into a hardline. He was heartbroken once again.
He lowered his head and without looking at the lady said, "Thank you Ma'am!" and quietly left the pastry shop hugging himself. He'd even forgot that Sanvi was with him.
Sanvi was left totally bewildered. She quickly caught up with his steps. Walking alongside him, she stopped him by clutching his arm, "Virat, care to explain what's happening?"
Virat was a mess right now. He didn't answer but suddenly hugged Sanvi.
Sanvi was caught off guard totally that for a moment she even lost her balance. She supported herself by hugging him back.
"Virat, unless you tell me what happened, how would I know what's wrong?" Her voice turned into that of concern and worry for him.
"M-M-Maya!" Virat stuttered.
Just then, a flash of forked lightning and a great clap of thunder came close upon each other in the dark gray sky. Sanvi felt like the lightning pa.s.sed right through her trying to create a havoc in her life. She froze, her back straightened instantly.
Virat pulled away from Sanvi. "Sanvi, it's Maya! I saw her enquiring at the counter....She was wearing a long black trench coat...." he tried to explain.
Sanvi snapped back to her senses, "Virat, I'm sure you are hallucinating! How can Maya come here all of a sudden from India? I hope you haven't forgotten that we're in London and not India! What are you talking?"
"Sanvi, I don't have an explanation to that.... Earlier when I came back to check if we'd left anything, I saw a woman standing before the counter....She resembled Maya.... No! She was Maya herself.... Who else knows Maya better than me? I'm sure it's Maya.... I was taken aback for a while..... By then you came in and took me away....." Virat frantically tried to explain.
"Okay Virat, calm down! please relax!" Sanvi tried to calm him down first.
She continued, "Okay Virat, putting everything aside, think for a while, she didn't write our exams, she hasn't got her degree certificates. Then how will she end up coming here without any of that?" Sanvi asked Virat.
Virat's mouth opened to speak but he immediately snapped it shut.
"Okay, let's a.s.sume that she's here! This is a foreign country with no connection whatsoever to any of us. The only link we have here is our company. So, logically even if she did come here, she's to report to the company, isn't it?" Sanvi continued to question Virat.
Virat didn't speak a word.
