Six hours later

Lila thought she succeeded with her 'sneaking out plan.' Indeed, it didn't seem like Haruka noticed. That was until the events of an hour ago. It was super embarra.s.sing when Haruka picked her up like that in front of so many people. Once they arrived home, Haruka immediately dragged her into their room. He backed her against the door, and her sweatdropped.

She saw the dangerous look in his eyes.

With his free hand, Haruka gently touched her cheek. Wh- "That dress, what are you doing?"

"I happen to like it." Lila mumbled.

"Really? Last I heard you don't like that type of thing, or did I make a mistake?" Haruka was challenging her. But Lila had no intention to back down.

"You made a mistake."

"I see now."

For the next few minutes, there was nothing but silence. The warmth on her cheeks had vanished too.

Haruka is so close to her knee, it's bizarre. Lila winced as he sprayed the disinfectant on her leg, yet carefully placed the large band-aid on.

"And done, or so I'd like to say... you injured your hand too. "

Indeed Lila looked at her hand to see the splint.

"Out of all the places you fell, it had to be that corridor with the broken floorboard. You have no luck at all. "

Lila puffs her cheeks at this comment, "Are you implying I'm clumsy?"

Haruka laughs, "Perhaps you are."

That laughter isn't fair! That's foul play brother, it's definitely cheating. How come she's the only being self-conscious in this situation? But his smile, it feels as though it has been a long time since she's last seen it—the smile of someone she loves.

Her thoughts broke off when Haruka lifted her up. He walked over to the couch and sat down. "Hey, stop!" Lila protested as he pulled her onto his lap. Haruka curled his arm around her waist, while the other one still held onto her hand.

Lila immediately felt the sound of her beating heart.

Ah geez...her heart...her heart, this is bad for her heart. Then again, it seems like whatever Haruka does to her sends her heart beating.

"Shut up."

Lila bit her lip, 'he can be cruel at times.' But then again, she can't expect him to act kindly when she does reckless things. Lila sighed but didn't complain anymore.

"Good girl," Haruka's tone immediately changed and brought the needle closer to her fingers.

Lila instinctively moved away, but Haruka squeezed her into a sort of half-hug. He rubbed her back to rea.s.sure her. "Relax. I promise it won't hurt that bad. You will be okay, Lila."

Lila closed her eyes and waited for the pain. It's strange, she can use many weapons, and not even her strange abilities frighten her. But she was afraid of needles.

Time always seems to go by slowly during times like this. However, even when the needle brushed against her fingers, Lila only briefly felt pain. A short p.r.i.c.k, and suddenly Haruka announced it was over.

"Eh?" Lila said, surprised.

"All finished. Besides, did you think I would hurt you?"

She watched as he slowly collected the rest of the supplies and noticed something strange.

Why did he look like he was in a hurry all of a sudden? So strange. He's really acting weird. Her thoughts break off when she hears a loud thud and sees that he had hit his head on the medical cabinet wall. "Ite. "

Lila instinctively stood up despite the pain in her legs and rushed over, "Brother. Are you okay?"

"Idiot..why did you stand up?" Haruka half-shouted, "Geez...this is embarra.s.sing after all. I can't keep my calm," he muttered. That's when she saw it, the blush that was dawning on his cheeks; rather, even his ears were red.

Eh. .eh? Why? Why is he so unfair? This has to be a lie. 'But if you ask me, Haruka is always watching only you, Lila. 'There's no way. He's too sly. It can't be. How is she supposed to act indifferent? Lila extended her hand out to touch her. But before she could, they heard the sound of his phone.

Whenever his phone rings, Lila knows their time has to end. But even then, she always clings to their fleeting moments. Her thoughts broke off when Haruka grabbed hold of her hand. Ah...

"Tell me to stay."

At that comment, her eyes widened. That's right, all she has to do is tell him to stay and he will. Haruka will do whatever she asks. But Lila knew how much he treasures his job.

"It's late, and yet they are calling you. It must be urgent," she mumbled. "You can go. I will see you tomorrow."

"It's too late to go to the hospital. So stay here, okay?" Haruka asked as he stood up. Lila nodded and followed him.

He reached out for his coat, "Should I ask Kiryu to come here? You will be lonely…"

Lila shook her head, she stood on her tiptoe and kissed his cheeks. "I will be fine. Goodnight."

Haruka nodded, and with those words said, he left the room. Lila didn't have the heart to see him out with her current state of mind. The second he left, she slumped down on the ground.

She has to do her best, and yet not being with Haruka so much breaks her heart. She has to try her hardest, since Haruka is working hard too. She knows that very well. She'll run so hard that she won't have time to feel lonely or cry. So just for now, she will cry.

'So stupid..' What, is she going to try forever? Lila felt so vulnerable and weak right now.

Her thoughts broke off when she hears a rush of footsteps. Lila turned to see brunette hair. Ah!

Haruka cups her cheeks. "I forgot something. I've got to get one last look at your adorable crying face. Moreover, if you're going to cry, anyway, it would be a waste not to flirt with you." he gently kisses her nose.

"Also, take care of this earring." Haruka took out one of his earrings.

Haruka laughed. "Now you're saying that? This is why I love you so much, Lila."

Haruka seems so happy. Quite some time has pa.s.sed since she last saw him like this. She has to do her best.
