Translator: Mamuni
Rigurett-san and I are facing each other with weapons drawn.
We are in the center of the training ground.
It's currently the final test. The mock battle.
Usually, candidates are randomly selected in a lottery system to see who they will face against. However, due to our outstanding test results, and mostly Rigurett-san's strong demands. We have been chosen to do a mock battle against each other.
By the way, if you lose the mock battle, that doesn't mean you will be flat out rejected.
The point of the test is to evaluate somebody's overall combat abilities in actual battles. That's what the examiner's look out for.
For each hit Rigurett-san and I get on each other, the examiner will be measuring that as our combat potential.
Anyways.
After the magical exam, Rigurett-san wanted to duel with me.
I didn't understand why she wanted to duel so much, but she was so insistent on it.
When I finally gave in, I made sure there were 3 conditions.
The following 3 conditions are.
1: Only can use non-attribute magic.
2: Magic can not be used at full strength.
3: It's mainly only melee fighting, with my maximum seal in place.
Those are the 3 conditions.
I didn't really explain what the maximum seal is, it would take too long and it is too complicated to explain. So I simply said I can used non-attribute magic to strengthen my body, and I won't be using it in this battle.
Well. . .I want to be honest with my friends.
But there are things that I don't think they will believe, or are just too disturbing to know. . .So white lying can't be helped.
Rigurett-san didn't accept the conditions as first, but then accepted when I said I could win easily even with those conditions. As I thought, that was enough to lure her in because it made her angry.
So that's- – -how we got to this showdown.
"- – I'm going to make you regret going easy on me."
Rigurett-san said as she pointed her dulled bayonet at me. She seems to have a grudge about me sealing my power.
"Try me."
I held out my dulled children's short sword towards her.
We stared each other down for a few more seconds. Until then- – –
"- -Begin!"
Finally, the examiner gave the go.
Chapter 38: The Mock Battle Begins!I quickly tried to close the distance.
Rigurett-san noticed my approach and changed her posture – – -to aiming at me with her gun while also backing away from me.
As I thought, Rigurett-san's weapon is a "magical gun"
It's a gun that fires magical bullets. It's not like Blitz though. The bullet speed and power is honestly comparable to a real gun.
In addition to that, there is the added effects it can have. Based on the user's magic, it could have explosions, lightning strikes, poison, ice effects, etc. It's a terrifying weapon that's effect can be changed.
Furthermore, Rigurett-san has two of them.
I can imagine with her being behind it, it will be quite powerful.
I'll need to predict and evade Rigurett-san's bullets while closing in the distance.
While running away from me, She shot and I dodged it by a hair's length. Leaving it to hit the ground behind me.
The bullet hit the ground hard, leaving a cloud of dust in it's wake.
This repeated several more times, until we both realized we were at a stalemate.
I stopped chasing her.
Rigurett-san also stopped.
With the greatest seal, my agility is around Rigurett-san. So there is no point in chasing her.
I decided to solely concentrate on dodging Rigurett-san's bullets.
I'll get my chance to close the distance, I just have to wait for her to realize that "shooting is meaningless." and then have her change her strategy.
However Rigurett-san was just standing there. Looking out for my next move.
Why did she stop though? It's more advantageous for her right now. She out ranges me so much, so it's better for her to stay away.
And then, as I was wondering what she was doing. Rigurett-san rushed towards me.
I was completely taken aback.
She is a bayonet user, not a sword.
Swords are better for close ranged while guns don't have that advantage.
However then I remembered, her status not only showed her shooting skills, but also swordsmans.h.i.+p was a C rank.
In other words, she is skilled in close range combat as well as shooting.
"- – -Haah!!!"
She yelled as she slashed at me with her bayonet.
I easily avoided it, but she attacked me with her other bayonet soon after.
She is releasing a continuous attack with two blades. I'm not given anytime to breathe.
I can tell that her skills are sharp and well trained.
However- – -her level is around the same as the Knights at my house.
The knights were really strong at the house, so I had to make sure not to get caught. So I can keep up with this.
"Tsk."
She smacked her lips. And then her pattern changed.
I wouldn't say her new movement is rough, rather it's like a dance of bladed.
Of course avoiding it isn't difficult.
However at the same time I avoided her attack she shot at me.
The magical bullet flew right at me, I surprisingly managed to avoid that crazy combo. However, I wasn't given a moment to breathe. Her onslaught of blades soon continued.
I could never imagine a technique like this, it's beyond the potential that a simple blade can do. Her slashes, stabbing and shooting between each attack, is leaving me with very little options.
Her swordsmans.h.i.+p and shooting technique is terrifying. I'm struggling to keep up with these techniques I've never seen before.
At this rate, I won't be able to make my own move.
Even if I can see the trajectory of her blade, I can't avoid it without putting myself at risk of getting shot.
I'm going to eventually slip up.
And then- – -the inevitable happened. I was caught in front of the gun.
"Take this!"
Bang*
She said as her magic gun went off.
Chapter 39: Fari's Secret Plan.Bang*
Before that came- – -I used non-attribute magic to aid me.
It's a simple spell that coats the user's body in magic. However thanks to my magical resistance, it is a really good combo.
The magic bullet shot by Rigurett-san's gun directly hit my body, – – -and it simply was destroyed.
"What!?- – -"
She was completely taken aback, but I didn't let her recover and used this as my chance to have flash my sword in a counter attack.
Rigurett-san doesn't know what I just did, but understands that she no longer has the advantage and concentrated on backing away from my attack.
She does know that her magic bullet didn't impact me.
Well, It did impact me though. The reason I am wearing my non-attribute magic is to ease the impact power of the magic bullets.
Magic bullet's ma.s.s is literally just magic. When that magic collides with mine, it will distribute the force of the impact.
And thanks to my high magical resistance it can withstand that distributed power just fine.
That being said, of course pain and damage will pa.s.s, but the damage mitigation eases all of that when compared to taking a bullet directly.
So I won't need to flinch at all when I get shot by her magic bullet.
Rigurett-san is also aware of that, and tried to move away from me.
She shot at the floor, knocking up dust in between us. Then distanced herself from me.
"- – -You are like an invincible dragon!"
Once she was away from me, she said that in a sarcastic tone.
But I didn't answer.
Because, well that isn't really true.
Although it's true that the damage is being dispersed to prevent an injury. My "life" in terms of my status, is still being reduced.
It's only purpose is to stop injuries, the damage from each attack will still acc.u.mulate.
So if she shot me and my life was low. I wouldn't get injured, but I'd simply faint.
I was thinking about how to win this, when Rigurett-san was already starting her next move.
She started to conjure up several numbers of Blitz and shot them at me. She continued to cast more, making it a barrage of fire.
I moved quickly to avoid each one. However I couldn't really accomplish that well. Several of them did hit me.
The highly centralized damage of the magical bullets made them easier to dodge, but Blitz's wider width makes dodging everyone of them nearly impossible.
However because it's less centralized, the damage of each one is way less. It will only lightly damage my "life".
However small things add up. Or from a proverb I heard from my past life, "Many drops make a shower."
So before the situation gets worse. I poised myself and closed in on her as fast as I could.
Her response was delayed. Probably because she's been concentrating so much releasing that barrage of Blitz.
I readied my swords as Rigurett-san rushed to defend with her bayonet. She aimed her other gun at the ground so she could make a cloud of dust again.
"I won't let you!"
I placed my foot between that ground and the gun.
The bullet was released and it hit my foot. It was dispersed once it impacted.
I will definitely take damage from getting hit this close range, but I have enough life to withstand it.
"Gaah!"
Unable to escape from me, Rigurett-san's face distorted as I smacked into her gut with my sword.
With me being so close she is unable to escape, and at this distance I can really show off. I'm way more skilled at close range, and her having a bayonet or spear like weapon against me and my short sword, she is at an obvious disadvantage.
I went on the full offense, not letting her regain her composure.
"Torrents of flames, burn the- Gahh ! ! !"
She was beginning to cast an advanced magical spell, but I stopped her with my attack. I won't let her cast anything at this range. Her bayonet can't strike me either. This was checkmate.
At the last moment, when my sword was about to strike her again and end it. I stopped.
"- – -This is over."
I said those words.
She had a regretful expression, however immediately exhaled and went loose.
"I accept it. . .I have lost."
She let go of her guns and raised her hands. It was a sign of surrender.
"- – -That's game!"
The voice of the examiner announced the conclusion.
Thus concludes the mock battle between Rigurett-san and I.
I don't think either of them were really in danger of dying if you were worried about that. Fari said previously, if you're life gets to zero, you don't die. Simply faint. Also this marks the end of the test arc. Next chapters will deal with the aftermath of this whole event.
And those next chapter are in 3-5 days. Those are going to be a 3 chapter bundle maybe 4, because I read ahead and know they need to be. Also I don't really have a time frame anymore, since I've been actually going to sleep earlier, and that just lowers how much I translate. It will still probably be that time regardless, just because that's how things usually end up.That's a nice thing and bad.
