The stare was boring a big hole into Qiangshen. Something clicked and a big smile spread on his face. 'They happen to be a misunderstanding somewhere.' "Sir, I'm sorry for bringing her back so late at night but what do I do..." 'When my granny keeps trying to form an alliance.' He had almost let them out.

He couldn't tell that to the worried man. He will only worry more. "I'm really sorry," he gave a deep bow and stayed like that.

Mr Bai with his hands folded in front of him darted his eyes this way and that way then looked back at him. The young man's sincere apology surprised him. For a fact he knew, the lad wasn't from ordinary family but he didn't care. He needed to make sure his children were safe all the time. His girls especially. He would never allow what happened some years ago to repeat itself.

That family had defeated them without them giving a proper fight.

The problem with rich families was that they got everything they wanted and no one could stop them. They had connections, connections for destruction of other lower families. He still wasn't over the fact that Yuxi accepted a job and other offers from a family... And now she was getting herself tangled with one.

He would support his daughters no matter the man they brought home, but the man shouldn't be higher than their status. His daughters never went to socialites parties, didn't know how to interact with them. So she didn't want them to be on the spot nor be forced into doing anything they hated.

'Wait, Yuxi just arrived this city, how come she has a male friend already? This can't actually be her boss... No way! He's so rich, he offered Yuxi such mind blowing salary, I bet he's too busy making more wealth than going around with my Yuxi.' Mr Bai doubted the possibility that the young man was his daughter's employer. He seemed to remember that he was bowing and immediately helped Qiangshen stand straight.

"It's okay." Mr Bai turned to see Xueyan looking at him with puppy eyes. He blinked twice. 'What is with her?' He's trying to be strict with any man that comes near his daughters. He didn't want them hurt either.

s.h.i.+huan came out and held his father's shoulders while standing by his side. "Forgive my father... He's just too overprotective." s.h.i.+huan said to Qiangshen.

Mr Bai snapped his head to look at s.h.i.+huan and his son returned a grin. An insincere grin. The man noted.

What is father doing? He left him bowing for so long and still blocking the door... Gosh, dad.

He moved his father out of the way and Xueyan urged him in.

Qiangshen wanted to reject but then, if his granny wants an alliance, he should form one first. He took a step and went in. Inside he bowed to Mrs Bai. She was beautiful and chubby with black hair. The black hair. It must be an inheritance pa.s.sed down from her because Mr Bai seemed to have brown hair. But no one inherited it.

"Have a sit," Mrs Bai ushered him to a couch.

It was after entering that Qiangshen realized the outside was very cold, the room immediately warmed him up. He thought about the lightly dressed Yuxi and stood up to head out. Mrs Bai was quick to react. "Leaving already?"

He turned and shook his head. "It's a little bit cold out there and Yuxi has little clothes on."

The woman's brows arched and a smile appeared.

"Wait in here," she went in to the room to bring a knitted pullover for her daughter.

Meanwhile outside,

"Daddy..." Yuxi cried. "That was my boss."

The man's face turned pale as he stood rooted there. "Why...why would your boss be going around with you? Why? Just why?" The man was obviously shocked.

"Pffft!" s.h.i.+huan couldn't hold it in. Mr Bai turned to glare at him. "Xueyan tried pulling you."

Mr Bai turned and took Xueyan's hand in his and patted it. "You should have just said it aloud." His expression made Xueyan laugh too.

"Dad, are you scared?" Xueyan question made the man shook his head.

"If he wants to go fists to fists then he has a little chance of winning..." He paused. And the children crooned a wow. "But with his power..." He pressed his lips together. "Its cold out here... Let's go in."

At the door, Mrs Bai came out with the pullover and pulled it over Yuxi's head. "Here, put your hands. Your boss said you're dressed in thin clothes and might catch a cold."

The three other heads turned to Mrs Bai. There was a light smile on her face... She must be pleased with him. They thought.

Qiangshen introduced himself and it made Mr Bai uncomfortable in his chair. s.h.i.+huan noticed it and went over to share his father's chair.

"You see my father is very protective... So that's why he questioned you when Yuxi didn't return early." s.h.i.+huan tried to make the man relax.

"I'm sorry for keeping her till such a time." Qiangshen apologized again.

"No, no. Don't apologize, its okay." Mr Bai weighed in.

Mrs Bai came out with a tray filled with teacups. "Here have it." She pa.s.ses one to Qiangshen, he took it and thanked her.

Everyone settled with a cup and was sipping when a door creaked.

Qiangshen eyes constricted. 'Is that a thief?'

Qingran came out rubbing her eyes. She had tossed and turned on the bed but couldn't find her mom. She searched in the bathroom and still didn't find her mom so she came out.

"Ran'er?" The soft whisper of her name made her look up. She saw that everyone was awake, Aunt Yuxi was back as her face s.h.i.+mmered in the light. And there was a stranger... No! Not a stranger. She knew him! Just that she couldn't remember from where.

She took another step but Xueyan pulled her back as she was the one seated near the room's door.

"Did I wake you up?" Xueyan wrapped Qingran in a warm hug. The little girl nodded but didn't take her eyes off Qiangshen.

"Mom," she called. "I know him." She pointed at Qiangshen. Xueyan gave a dry laugh and pulled Qingran's hand back. "Don't point."

Xueyan stood up, "I'm sorry, but I have to tuck her to bed." She turned and headed for the. She disappeared into the corner.

Qiangshen's mind fuddled. 'Who was that little girl?'

"Ay, its so late. You should return already and rest early. Your face should be your first priority." Mr Bai said.

Qiangshen smiled and stood up, bowed and said good night. Yuxi escorted him to the door with s.h.i.+huan trailing behind them.

Yuxi waved bye as he got in his car, he smiled then drove off. "Oof!" Yuxi sighed.

"He's cute!" s.h.i.+huan stated.

Yuxi smiled. "And you aren't?"

"Well, I am... But its worthless."

"No, its not." Yuxi a.s.sured him. She touched his cheek. "My little brother is so cute, that if you dare enter the entertainment circle many artists would hang themselves to death."

s.h.i.+huan chuckled. "Oh really?"

Yuxi nodded. "You would grab the attention of wealthy socialites. Even the old women would fawn over you. You wanna try?"

s.h.i.+huan fervently shook his head. "No way!"

In the room, Qingran lay on Xueyan as she tried to fall asleep. "Mom, who was that man?" She sat up. Her hair fell on her face. Xueyan smiled. "Sleep first."

Qingran lay back down on her mom. This was their best sleeping position. She loved being wrapped in Xueyan's hands the most. She scratched her itchy nose. That face matched... Shen Q. The nations darling... Her eyes widened and she sprang up. "Mom, that was Shen Q."

The door was pushed open from outside. Yuxi stood there. "You're right. That's my employer."

"Ooh! You never bothered to tell me." Qingran frowned. She glanced at her mother. "You didn't tell me either."

"Well... What would you have done?" Xueyan asked.

"At least... I'd worry less about meeting my favourites."

Yuxi chuckled. "Ok then. Worry less now, since you know."

Qingran with a big smile on her face lay on Xueyan again.

It had been two weeks already and Xueyan didn't agree on signing the three doc.u.ments.

s.h.i.+huan had left, his team was later called. Yuxi got more busy at work with and missed two nights from home. Mr Bai had been so worried that he sent Xueyan to go check on her little sister.

"Almost all the endors.e.m.e.nt deals he signed for the end of the year are now calling him. Tell dad and mom I'm okay. Have been eating a lot too not to lose weight." Yuxi had told her when she went to see her. "I'm busy, I will leave now."

"Where do you sleep?" Xueyan had asked.

"The company he has endors.e.m.e.nts with pays for our hotel rooms."

Xueyan nodded. Yuxi stood up and strode out but as if remembering something she came back in. "Xiujun is still waiting for you. He has delayed his historical drama and the investors are beginning to complain..." After that Yuxi dashed out of the eatery and into the car provided for her.

Xueyan relayed Yuxi's message to her parents leaving Xiujun's part.

In her room, Xueyan brought out the three doc.u.ments. She took out her phone and keyed in words to search.

"Xiujun Cancels His New Historical Drama." The first headline struck Xueyan.

"All Stars Media Chairman apologizes to the Public."

"Investors to sue All Stars Media."

All the headlines were related to Xiujun. 'Why would he take such drastic measures?' Xueyan wondered. A frown marred her face.
