The student had the background of a simple and poor commoner and a lot was riding on her pa.s.sing this test. Even if she were hired as a simple mercenary for a lower tier merchant company, it would still give her family enough money to survive.
Hearing that she had failed and knowing her circ.u.mstances, two of her friends who were also students walked over to help bring her back to the line of other students. The young woman was crying uncontrollably and even the most cold hearted student showed enough respect towards her to not laugh or ridicule her.
Although each student wanted the best results for themselves, they were still close to each of their fellow cla.s.smates. Respect was a simple courtesy that everyone would give to each other even if they had ill intentions towards someone.
"I see that you have saved the best for last, maybe because of her amazing presentation, I shouldn't even attempt this test for the fear of failing to reach the same level of this expert!" not far from the training grounds, a young man and his escorts were arriving.
The young man in the lead was clearly Tommy and he was openly talking trash about the young woman who just lost all hope for a bright future. This was something that angered almost every student as well as some of the teachers who were present.
"Tommy, I am sure you understand the test and have made your preparations?" an instructor called out as the students started to reply to Tommy's harsh words in defense of the young woman who had just failed her test.
With a subtle laugh, Tommy landed in the circle and started to concentrate all of his strength into his right hand as he held it out with his palm facing the sky. He was attempting to create a small ember with his fire element.
Something like creating a small ember with his hand was enough for Tommy to pa.s.s if he only used his cultivation to do this. However, as time pa.s.sed, a small ember still had not appeared on his palm. This was almost impossible since Tommy was a pure blooded clan member, and this caused laughter even from the VIP area.
"This kid just moments earlier was laughing at the young woman, but it seems that he is unable to even call forth any power even with a bloodline that any commoner here would give a limb to obtain for themselves!" the Flying Spear clan's representative yelled out for the rest of the individuals in the VIP area to hear.
After only a few more moments pa.s.sing by, Tommy was receiving laughter and ridicule from even the young woman who failed earlier. For someone with such a great bloodline to not even have the ability to light a single ember was unheard of even for seven year olds who were just beginning to cultivate with such a background.
Hearing all of this, the instructors all looked at each other before they all nodded their heads and the lead instructor called out that Tommy had failed the test and that he could exit the circle.
"But-" confused on why after practicing for a few weeks, he was still unable to light a simple ember, Tommy looked back at those of his clan who escorted him here for some support. However, even his escorts were laughing uncontrollably at his results.
Feeling completely embarra.s.sed and helpless, Tommy started to run back to the clan like a puppy with its tail between its legs. He was now completely defeated and there was not a single person around him to console him and to make him feel better. With his spirits crushed, Tommy would remain in his room for several days without even eating.
