Hailey froze when she saw him walk slowly and take a seat opposite her.

"Would you like some coffee or tea?" Bethel offered.

"No thank you," he replied.

With that Bethel closed the door and left, Hailey felt as if she was stuck. She felt like a caged bird, she tried to calm herself and not fidget.

"Why can't you look at me, Hailey?"

She realized that she was looking anywhere but besides him. Hailey finally landed her eyes on him, he had changed a bit from the last time that she had seen him. She looked away when she remembered her last encounter with him.

"I see that you have made a name for yourself." He probed.

She cleared her throat, "Yes I did."

"Is that why you left me?"

Hailey's eyes flickered onto his, "No. Part of it."

"Where you ever planning on giving me closure?"

"I thought you would have moved on by now."

Valerian took a deep breath, "So I didn't matter that much to you?"

"I never said that."

"But your actions say so."

"I just wasn't ready for you to be here."

"When where you going to be ready Hailey? Tell me when?"

She could feel that his temper was rising.

Her defenses were drawn up, "I don't know. I really don't."

"I have been looking for you for a whole year and you aren't even bothering or even feeling remorseful."

"Fine, what do you want to hear from me? That I am sorry that I left Valerian. Is that what you want to hear?"

"No, I don't want to hear that bulls.h.i.+t of an apology."

"Then why are you here?"

"I need for you to explain to me where I went wrong. You just upped and left."

"I had to do what was best for me at that time."

"What was best for you was leaving us to dry with no explanations whatsoever!"

"I didn't have time."

"You could have called or sent an email Hailey."

"If I did that, you would have come looking for me."

"Is that such a bad thing?"

"Yes, I needed a new start, and to be away from the past."

"That's all that I was to you Hailey. Just baggage?"

"You are putting words into my mouth yet again."

"Then why couldn't you end it properly and tell me face to face that it wasn't working out, you could have explained and then left."

"Would you have let me go?"

"I would have."

"No, Valerian you wouldn't have let me go."

"How do you know that?"

"You are here after a year."

"I am here because you didn't leave me an explanation on where we went wrong."

"Maybe you need to come to terms with the fact that I don't have one."

"Why are you trying to push me away so hard Hailey?"

"I am not, you came for the truth and I am giving it to you aren't I?"

"Can we…"

The door opens and Alex walks in, he looks at their exchange weirdly. "I wanted to ask if you were ready for dinner?"

"I will be right out, I was just finis.h.i.+ng up."

"I will be waiting for you out front."

With that Alex leaves the room and closes the door.

"Is that your boyfriend Hailey?"

"No. It's very complicated as we speak."

"Is that why you left me?"

"No, it isn't."

"Then what is? All you have done is make up excuses. And now this?"

"I am late can we talk another time or not if you don't want to see me again."

Valerian stood up, "I came this far and I will see you again."
