Tempted By My Boss: Book Two 5 Chapter 5

When Valerian exited Hailey exhaled, she had seen new lines on his face. She felt an ache within her, she wanted to run after him and embrace him but she knew she couldn't. She felt as if she didn't deserve it.

She hoped Valerian would realize that too and find someone who was good for him. Hailey finished on time and went to dinner with Alex. She was seated opposite him but she wasn't there.

"What is bothering you, Hailey?"

"Nothing. I'm just tired."

She hoped that it was enough for Alex because she didn't want to tell him the real reason. She picked around her food and acted as if she was enjoying the meal but she was far too preoccupied.

She wanted to go home and have a good night's rest.

"Let's finish up and get you home." Alex smiled at her.

"Okay. Sorry that I am not being that much of company."

"Don't worry, I understand. But you owe me a proper dinner."

Hailey smiled lightly, "Of course I do."

When the bill was paid for they got up,

"I can drop you off home."

"My chauffeur is here Alex, so there is no need."

"I insist Hailey."

"I also insist Alex, besides we both had a long day."

Alex pulled her into his arms and she hugged him back. After some time he released her and he went to his car. Hailey waited for her car to arrive.

"Hailey."

She turned around abruptly, "Valerian..what are you doing here."

He approached her, "I had dinner with my congressmen and I spotted you."

"Oh, I see. Makes sense."

"What are you…."

Hailey immediately cut him off, "I am waiting for my chauffeur to arrive so that I can go home."

"Can you spare me a few minutes then?"

"I don't think I can, I have had a long day and I want to rest."

"How long will you avoid me for Hailey?"

"I am not, I am simply tired. You came at the wrong time. I even ended dinner early."

"Will you tell me all about it?"

"All about what?"

"Why you are tired, I want to know those things about you Hailey."

She looked at him then, and she broke away the eye contact, "I cant..I don't have the time or s.p.a.ce for the past."

"But.."

Her car arrives in front of her, "My chauffeur is here. I have to go."

Valerian quickly steps in front of her and opens the door for her.

"Thank you." She says stiffly.

"You are always welcome."

With that, she drives off.
