Fang Xiang instantly dashed towards her general, successfully flinging off the arrow but was unknowingly stabbed by one of the enemies into her abdomen as she had, unfortunately, let down her guard for a brisk second after fending off the attack.
While Guan Chengyi was fighting his own battle, he suddenly felt someone brus.h.i.+ng against his back. He was about to send the person flying only to observe his lieutenant general pierced with a longsword through her gut. Guan Chengyi, in rage, violently slaughter off anyone within his vicinity before returning to hold Fang Xiang, who had collapsed, tenderly in his arms.
"Fang Xiang…" Guan Chengyi's whispered, his voice wavering. Fang Xiang's heart couldn't help but skip a beat as her name flowed out of the general's lips for the very first time.
Fang Xiang slowly turned her gaze to Guan Chengyi, "G-general," Fang Xiang wanted to stand and rea.s.sure him that everything was all right. However, her body wouldn't cooperate as the slight movement managed to produce a shockwave of pure agony that crushed her insides viciously. The pain was so much that she would've screamed if not for her biting hard on her bottom lip.
Fang Xiang's whole body suddenly trembled uncontrollably and something thick rose to her throat. She convulsed and abruptly positioned her right hand to cover her mouth. The liquid with such a horrifyingly metallic taste exploded out of her mouth. Blood spurted through the cracks of her fingers, splattering onto Guan Chengyi's face.
Guan Chengyi could only watch in horror as genuine fear for the first time appeared in his eyes. "F-Fang Xiang…" He carefully shook the girl's body, attempting to keep her awake. "I-it's okay, it's not that bad… Everything's fine!" Guan Chengyi clutched on to Fang Xiang's blood coated hand, attempting to comfort her. But they both knew that he was actually trying to rea.s.sure himself.
"En, it's not that bad," Fang Xiang nodded, her face was deathly pale, but her smile was still full of life.
"En, that is why you have to stay awake," Guan Chengyi caressed Fang Xiang's face, his hand quivered as he felt the heat gradually leaving her body.
"Hm…" Fang Xiang hummed in agreement, lifting a trembling hand, barely cupping Guan Chengyi's cheek. "Are... you... okay?" Fang Xiang inquired weakly, concern swimming in her warm eyes.
Her worry over him... despite her own state... This was what made his eyes redden, his unshed tears glistening in his obsidian eyes. "I'm okay," Guan Chengyi finally replied after a few moments of silence, placing his hand over hers.
Fang Xiang could see her reflection from his eyes; Her jade white porcelain skin tainted blood red from her face to her neck, her unkempt black hair flowing endlessly due to her losing her ribbon somewhere, sometime during the war...
Fang Xiang's eyes crinkled up as she tried to smile. The action only made her cough up even more blood. Calming herself down again, she glanced up at him, "I'm... glad..." She finally managed to voice out the words.
Guan Chengyi looked down at her with lightly furrowed brows. "Why did you do it?" He asked her suddenly.
Fang Xiang looked up at him thoughtfully. "My body... moved... by itself." She replied slowly, presenting him with an enchanting smile.
"Idiot," Guan Chengyi muttered.
"Hm..." Fang Xiang agreed. The original body is certainly a fool indeed.
Fang Xiang absolutely loathe this original body's bothersome feelings. Not only did she get maimed, but she also had to face the general with this very irksome feelings due to her not being able to restrain the foreign emotions.
As Guan Chengyi and Fang Xiang were caught up in their moment, the Huo Empire soldiers had come to the rescue by forming a circle around them, s.h.i.+elding them from any danger. When one went down, another one will proceed to replace him to retain the concrete formation, not even sparing a bug from coming into the encirclement.
Ping Shangye's hand trembled at the sight of the beauty spurting out blood. His heart lurched out of his chest, and he forced himself to calm down before declaring, "Surrender yourself to the Jun Empire and we shall spare you!"
Guan Chengyi scoffed as if he was hearing the worse joke ever. You want him to surrender? Do you even know what that word means? "Fire!" Guan Chengyi didn't waste any words as he ordered.
Nothing happened for a moment before thousands of arrows were fired down, targeting only the Jun Empire army. Devastating cries were heard as the enemy troops tried to flee but soon dropped down.
"What…" Ping Shangye can only watch helplessly as his fellow brothers collapsed, not understanding the situation. "How?"
"Give up, Jun Empire! The arrows were laced with poison. You cannot escape death today unless you surrender yourselves!" Xuan Ji shouted in place of his general, knowing fully well that his general will only keep his silence.
Guan Chengyi didn't trouble himself with whatever was taking place as he completely directed his focus on the girl in his arms, her breath slow and ragged, her lips paled from the loss of blood. Guan Chengyi had removed the sword and tore a big part of this outer garment to be tied around Fang Xiang's waist. He simply had to put pressure on the wounds to prevent any more blood from flowing out.
Trying to calm himself down, Guan Chengyi ordered Ya Feng to take Fang Xiang to the camp, after all her safety was his priority before anything else. His eyes never left the girl until she was out of his sight. Guan Chengyi then glanced at Ping Shangye, his expression never once betraying his thoughts.
Although Guan Chengyi had the urge to hack them all to pieces, he still can't disobey the imperial orders. Thereupon, he decided to bring everyone back to the camp, including the enemy general and his surviving troops which will be taken as hostages until the Jun Empire signed a peace treaty.

"Your Imperial Majesty, a letter was sent from the north border," An eunuch handed a letter to the Huo Emperor before respectfully stepping down to stand at a side.
The Huo Emperor, who received the letter, laughed heartily as he studied its contents. "It seems that we won the war. Oh? Lieutenant general Fang was the one planning the success? Reward her as soon as she reaches the palace."
"Understood, Your Imperial Majesty." The eunuch bowed, receiving the order.
"Hm… Prepare a banquet for their return in two week's time." The Emperor flicked his sleeves as he lined his back to the throne imposingly.
"Understood, Your Imperial Majesty." The eunuch kowtowed before requesting for permission to begin the primary preparations.
.
"How is she?" Guan Chengyi glared at an old physician, daring him to say otherwise.
The unfortunate physician who had his back covered in sweat replied, "L-lieutenant general F-Fang is alright. S-she simply needs to r-rest more to p-prevent the w-wound from reopening. T-this is the prescription for her t-to stabilize herself." His heart was thumping erratically, and his stomach was twisted in knots as he stood before the impending doom himself, known as Guan Chengyi.
Xuan Ji took the piece of paper before handing it to the general.
"You can go back now," Guan Chengyi waved his hand in dismissal, skimming over the writings in the paper. The hapless physician rushed out of the tent in glee, like he received an amnesty, despite his brittle back, not wanting to waste any second inside the general's private tent any longer. "Prepare this according to the prescription. If her condition gets worse, you know what will happen."
"Understood, general." Xuan Ji gave his salute before going on with his task.
.
A man resting on his throne laughed and slapped at his thigh in delight. "This person is really fascinating."
The ministers below him were sweating bullets as they obediently waited for his next words, not daring to meet his eyes.
"Who is this lieutenant general Fang? Did you investigate him?" The man smiled dangerously as he rested his chin on his hand, crossing his legs in a languid posture.
Another man clad in black kneeled down and offered him a scroll. "Lieutenant general Fang is a newly appointed lieutenant general, Your Imperial Majesty. This scroll contains all her information."
The Emperor took the scroll, unraveling it to read its material. "Oh? Lieutenant general Fang is a female?" He raised his eyebrows, his interest peaked. Then a smile more chilling made a way to his handsome features, unveiling his pearly white teeth. "How interesting…"
The Emperor unfolded the rest of the scroll. Once again, he guffawed, his eyes not once leaving the girl in the picture at the bottom right of the whole content.

"Fang mei, are you alright? Are you in pain?" Qiu Li asked, his eyes trained on her waist where her wound is located before moving on to the girl's face.
"En," Fang Xiang answered lazily for the nth time, lying her back on the bedding unmoving.
"If you're in pain, you have to tell big brother, alright? We can then put more medicine to relieve the pain." Qiu Li continued, concern etching on his face.
"Mm," Fang Xiang mumbled in agreement.
"Good, good," Qiu Li nodded happily at the docile girl in front of him, patting her head gently.
Fang Xiang closed her eyes at the comfortable feeling. Yes, you guessed it. She likes being patted on the head.
When Qiu Li stopped patting her head, Fang Xiang immediately cracked open her eyes, seizing his hand tightly, not letting go.
"Xiang mei?" Qiu Li asked questioningly.
Fang Xiang led his hand to the top of her head, puffing out her cheeks. "Pat me more."
Qiu Li, who is bearing the brunt of the unexpected response, parted his mouth in shock. His heart drumming at her sudden display of cuteness.
"Pat," Fang Xiang repeated once more.
Qiu Li, still under a trance, started to do as Fang Xiang told.
It is presumably due to the side effects of the medication that Fang Xiang suddenly behaved differently than her usual self.
As both of them were enjoying their own moment of peace, the tent was abruptly swept open by several soldiers, halting Qiu Li from patting Fang Xiang's head any more.
Fang Xiang looked towards the entrance when she heard the flutter of her tent, displaying the general, Ya Feng, Qiu Su, and Xuan Ji.
Fang Xiang blinked her doe eyes at the guests, tilting her head cutely, her mind still fuzzy but holding enough clarity to comprehend what's going on.
"General," Fang Xiang started to sit up only to groan as her injury splits open again.
"You don't need to stand on formalities," Guan Chengyi said, his voice stern. "Call the physician." He turned to Xuan Ji. Xuan Ji immediately sped out to call the physician again.
Silence greeted them as soon as Xuan Ji left. No one uttered a word and so Fang Xiang won't either.
Surely the biting cold aura emanated from the general is a remedy to clear her state of mind. It can plausibly even bring the dead alive.
After a few minutes of exposure to pressure and silence, footsteps were eventually heard outside, and the tent was gradually opened. Clothed in a light blue robe, with the sleeves embroidered with the drawing of auspicious clouds, a man with very handsome features, on par with the general, coupled with an ethereal smile emerged.
Fang Xiang squinted her eyes at the imaginary radiance illuminating from the man's back. Truly a saint, she thought.
