Even in her dreams, Qiu Yue wasn't able to find rest.
Memories of her own past played in glimpses in her mind. Memories of her parents, all of their fights, the broken relations.h.i.+ps... especially the parts where her mother had blamed it all on her played significantly louder. But that wasn't the end of her problems, it just got a lot worse from then on.
Somewhere Qiu Yue had read that, parents, no matter how disconnected our relations.h.i.+p was with them, only with them could you truly act willful and ask for things, whether it be emotional or material.
She didn't realize how true this was until she thought about it, but even then she didn't have time to love them as much as she could.
The memories of her own life morphed into the memories of Xiang Qiu Yue. She was actually Xiang Yu Se's half-sister. They shared the same mother but Xiang Qiu Yue's father was Xiang Lian Yu, the current acclaimed King of the golden screen. Xiang Yu Se, was born after their mother, RuYi had married Xiang Lian Yu. It could be seen that while he wasn't Yu Se's father, he really doted on the child and the mother a lot. It was apparent that he really loved their mother, as their mother, whose last name wasn't even known, had to have either come from an unknown background or, what was more likely, from a background that ordinary people couldn't know.
Apparently, she'd known that she'd die giving birth to Qiu Yue but there was no way she could give up her child, so leaving behind the beautifully thought name and instructing Yu Se to always love his sister, she'd left this world after giving birth.
It was just that... this didn't sit well with Xiang Liang Yu. Of course, he couldn't bring himself to ill-treat this daughter... but he never once even looked at her. Never giving her his attention or care. She could have whatever she wanted, except for that.
Xiang Lian Yu's current wife was known as the best singer for years to come, with unmatched beauty and acting skills. One was the King while the other was the Queen. It was only that this queen also preferred to have another queen for herself. But to satiate her family, she'd married Lian Yu, knowing that there wouldn't ever be any affection between them, she was happy.
The only problem was, she had never given the two children any amount of her time, it could be said she was just the wife and stepmother in name. Neither did she care nor did she mistreat.
Yu Se, though a child, received care from his mother before she pa.s.sed away and his father could never bring himself to detach from this son, but Qiu Yue on the other hand, grew up spoilt and willful because that was the only way she knew to get attention from her parents.
Always acting without thought, doing whatever she wanted, no one paid attention to realize that all she ever wanted was love.
Such things, Qiu Yue didn't want to think about, at first she didn't understand why she had dreamt of her own life but then looking back at Xiang Qiu Yue's memories, she could only sigh.
As she woke up in the morning, her mood was horrible. Anyways it wasn't like her mood had been nice these past few days, but this dream really annoyed her to no end.
Qiu Yue was the type of person to express a lot of emotions with silence, especially this kind of discomfort, sadness and frustration; these feelings angered Qiu Yue to no end.
Yao Yan had wisely stepped away and decided to take advantage of her surroundings to find the best place to pick up beautiful people. However, Qiao Feng who had set his eyes on Qiu Yue, decided to make her the biggest star in the industry. Although before he was able to persuade Qiu Yue, he was promptly put down in his place.
So every day he would come and knock on Qiu Yue's door, Yao Yan didn't open it as it wasn't her decision to make, and while Qiu Yue was trying to pick herself up, she really didn't want to be an idol. It had never been her, to stand on a stage in front of millions. She didn't see the point of it at all.
But Qiao Feng didn't give up. He'd heard her sing, and he knew that if he could just get her to work with him, they could surprise the world!
This 'you knock, I close the door' routine went on in Qiu Yue's life for almost 15-20 days. Every day she would wake up to him knocking, refuse him and close the door on his face and then move onto writing songs. Perhaps it was the wish of the original soul, but Qiu Yue couldn't resist copying down all the songs she'd heard and remembered. At all times, her bedroom was strewn with papers all containing song lyrics. If Qiao Feng could've seen this he would probably have ruled her bedroom a national treasure or something. The amount of material in there was too good.
One day Qiu Yue woke up early and instead of waiting for his knock to annoy her, she decided to take a walk to the park nearby.
She slowly strolled as she looked around at the city that was slowly waking up. It was peaceful with the vibrant energy of a new day starting could be felt in the air.
Going around the park in this wintery weather Qiu Yue couldn't help but remember that day when Huo Zi Feng and she had gone to the park in the autumn. On that warm and beautiful day they'd held hands and eaten sweet potatoes together.
A sweet smile curved on her face as she remembered how his eyes blinked curiously at the piping hot snack.
She leaned against the railing around the lake in the center of the park still thinking about him when she saw her reflection in the water. The wedding band she wore around her neck caused the happy nostalgia to fade away, slowly, replaced by a hazy sad expression.
At that moment she heard the sound of strumming from a guitar from behind her, and she turned to look at a man lightly playing the instrument standing on the elevated path around the lake. It seemed like he was someone who would play songs here often in hopes of any sort of patronage.
Listening to him sing made Qiu Yue want to sing too. So she walked over to the man and sweetly asked him for the guitar, all the time her eyes remained melancholic due to the thought swirling in her mind.
Seeing the young girl, almost the age of his own daughter look so sad the man immediately acquiesced.
Qiu Yue had never learned to play the guitar but from Xiang Qiu Yue's memories, she knew that this body did. It wasn't surprising that she could feel the weight of the guitar was familiar.
She closed her eyes and the words seemed to just pour out of her as if she couldn't hold them in any longer.
"Dancing with your silhouette in the places that we met
Ooh, tryna find you in the moon
Paris never feels the same, when the streets all call your name
Ooh, so I hide in crowded rooms"
To Qiu Yue, nothing but memories existed right now. Not the people, not this world, not herself.
"And I'll follow right down the river
Where the ocean meets the sky
To you, to you"
"Did I let go of your hand for a castle made of sand
Ooh, that fell into the blue
I went following the sun to be alone with everyone
Ooh, looking 'round a crowded room
And I'll follow right down the river
Where the ocean meets the sky
To you, to you"
"Once upon a time we had it all
Somewhere down the line we went and lost it
One brick at a time we watched it fall
I'm broken here tonight and darling, no one else can fix me
Only you, only you
Why did you leave me? She wanted to ask Huo Zi Feng.
"And no one else can fix me, only you
Only you, only you
And no one else can fix me, only you, oh
Only you"
Her voice broke as she sang the last two words. Yes, it was always only him.
For a few moments, after she finished singing, only silence echoed loudly, and a single person clapped leading to an astounding applause.
Qiu Yue opened her eyes to see Qiao Feng in the crowd, clapping first as the rest of the people joined him. A crowd... so many people had heard her sing?
Some people were brus.h.i.+ng away tears as if remembering and reliving their own memories.
Before Qiu Yue could go to Qiao Feng, a pretty young woman walked up to Qiu Yue clasping her hands in her own. With eyes filled with unshed tears, she spoke to Qiu Yue.
"Thank you. Thank you for singing. I lost someone too and though I'm going on with life every day I still feel like it'll never get better, but today listening to you made me cry and for some reason, just a little bit of sadness in my heart had cleared."
Qiu Yue's eyes softened. Having someone who understood you was always important. Being able to share her sadness with others, perhaps it was good that Qiu Yue had sung.
"Maybe it's because I know and realize now that everyone had experienced some form of loss... seeing you I want to work hard and live life and help others like me!"
As the young woman smiled, so did Qiu Yue. Her words echoed in Qiu Yue's mind. Help others? Can I? By singing and helping others in pain find support... yeah that seemed like something she wanted to do.
