Seeing her weird behavior, Bin furrowed his brows, not knowing why she switched the topic so abruptly and asked him such a question. He stared at her for a few moments but no matter how much he looked, he couldn't recognize her. Most definitely, she wasn't someone he met then forgot then… why is it that she seemed to have recognized him?
It wasn't his imagination, furthermore, her question confirmed his suspicions. After a momentary bout of silence, the young man responded:
"I think you're mistaking."
Then, without a care in the world, he covered his face with his hand to block the sun rays and proceeded to take a nap, totally ignoring the startled woman standing next to her.
Scarlett, half-confused and half-certain, pulled her phone and put his photo on the screen. Although he looked younger, it was, without a doubt, the same person. She had a keen eye so there's no way she's 'mistaken'.
After glancing between the picture and the young man before her, the red-haired doctor ascertained her thoughts. She found it shocking and abnormal that she randomly met the person she was looking for here out of all places.
She examined the youngster, sizing him up from head to toe before walking closer and poking his arm.
"Hey." He heard her soft voice and the touch of her finger but remained in the same position, not in the mood to deal with her. First of all, she was such a distinguished individual so if he was seen by her, it'll create a bit of trouble. Secondly, whatever she needs from him, it's definitely not to his advantage.
Bin wasn't stupid as, through her previous question, managed to, more or less, guess the woman's ident.i.ty. She was a doctor, she mentioned a master and asked if he's a patient. That can only mean she's Dr. Galen's student, as for why she's looking for him? He didn't know and would very much like to remain oblivious.
"Hey! I'm talking to you."
"And I don't want to talk to you."
"Kid, Look here! At least show some respect for those older than you."
Having had enough, Bin suddenly stood up, startling the red-haired woman, turned around and silently walked away. Whatever she wanted from him, he didn't want to be embroiled.
Unfortunately, the woman was as stubborn as she looked. She quickly caught up to him and blocked his path. He tried to circle around but the doctor persistently and repeatedly stopped him, the expression on her face telling him that she could do this all day.
The only reason she came here was to investigate her teacher's death and check his patients. This kid, whoever he was, was a crucial lead so she'll use whatever means to get him to talk.
"Look, I want no trouble. I'm just a servant waiting for his master to finish cla.s.s, so, why don't we call this a day and end this nonsense without resorting to any verbal or physical fight."
Scarlett flashed a smile at the bothered Bin and retorted:
"Why the rush? I just want to ask you a few questions, it'll only take a few minutes of your time."
"No thanks, I'm busy."
For a moment, Bin could've sworn he heard a snapping sound. He saw her lips twitch as she contained herself and tried to not get infuriated. She seemed to be the hot-blooded type, just like Jasmine, however, she certainly knew how to restrain herself.
'You just said you're waiting for your master! How can you be busy?!'
Though she very much wanted to say that to him, she maintained a temporary silence before speaking: "Can't we reach a compromise?"
As if she remembered something, she added: "Weren't you the servant who got into trouble with one of the students in yesterday's banquet?"
Though she was there when Cara caused trouble Bin, she didn't pay much attention to the servant. As she noticed his expression twist ever-so-slightly, Scarlett continued:
"The students here can be a bit over-bearing… how about this? I make sure no one bothers you and you give me some of your 'busy time."
Bin stared at her with a deadpan face, his piercing eyes focusing on the crafty doctor.
"I don't remember asking for your help, which, in this case, is unwanted and unnecessary. I'm not afraid or worried about a bunch of spoiled kids who are only good at flaunting their parent's wealth, trying to seem authoritative."
"How is it then…" She smirked at him, almost like a taunt, while resuming: "That you were so helpless yesterday? You were made fun of and treated like an inferior."
"My master instructed me not to cause trouble. If it were in any other place, things wouldn't have proceeded so smoothly for those snot-nosed brats."
The doctor sighed, took a step back then said:
"Anyway, isn't it better to do your job without any inconveniences? I don't like to boast but I can do many things on the academy grounds."
Hearing this, Bin's eyes flashed with a cold gleam. He took a step forward, stopping inches away from Scarlett, who wasn't that comfortable being this close to a stranger.
"Doctor, are you perhaps threatening me?"
While holding back the urge to push him away or retreat a bit further, still smiling, she answered:
"Quite the contrary, I can make you live like a prince here… only for a small price, a bit of honesty, to be more precise."
"An exchange, however 'safe' it may be, is never fair. I refused. And I shall, again, refuse your 'enticing' offer again."
He distanced himself away from her and stated:
"Doctor, sure you are famous and hold a fair bit of authority but that doesn't allow you to do anything you want. Let me warn you before things get out of control."
Bin walked past the silent doctor, walking a few steps then declared: "I don't like people peeping into my personal business. I may be a simple, helpless servant but I'll do anything to protect myself. Let it be that we remain as strangers, never to interfere with each other's business."
It was the last thing she heard of the young servant, who left Scarlett alone in the forest, pondering about what to do.
