It was really late when Kang Jun emerged from his office. He hadn't been there the whole time though. Actually, when it was time, he had gone to eat with Lu AnLing and Kang Mingyu while Rong Lihua and Rong Xin went into a different room, claiming they didn't want to bother them.

Together, the family of three had a nice dinner. Kang Jun found it relaxing how smily Kang Mingyu and Lu AnLing had been.

Watching the two, Kang Jun felt as if he could get use to this situation quickly. In fact, when dinner was over and he had to go back to work he did so reluctantly.

When it came time for Kang Mingyu to go to bed, the boy was reluctant to let Lu AnLing go. So, the girl let the boy sleep on her lap until Kang Jun exited his office. When the man did the first thing that came to mind was to go find Lu AnLing.

Once he laid eyes on her he found that both she and Kang Mingyu had fallen asleep on the couch in the living room.

Kang Jun smiled and then went to wake them.

"Come on, let's all go to bed." Kang Jun said softly as he helped both Kang Mingyu and Lu AnLing to their feet.

The girl and the boy had matching sleepy expressions as they rubbed their eyes.

Kang Mingyu: "Can I sleep with auntie tonight?"

The way Kang Mingyu was saying it made it obvious that he was expecting it, not asking. And even worse, he wasn't asking Kang Jun but Lu AnLing.

Staring into the boys big eyes, Lu AnLing became putty in his hands. "Of course my honey!"

Kang Mingyu smiled wide before he ran into Lu AnLing's arms.

Hearing this Kang Jun frowned.

He knew he should have just stayed with her in the hotel a bit longer.

As Kang Jun watched them, obviously dissatisfied, Lu AnLing walked into Kang Mingus room.

Suddenly, the woman turned and gave Kang Jun a pout.

"You aren't coming?"

Hearing this, Kang Jun and Kang Mingyu were shocked.

Right after, Kang Mingyu's face darkened. Seeing this, Kang Jun couldn't help but smirk.

This was a good compromise.

He had such a smart wife! He wanted to kiss her but he held back because he didn't want Kang Mingyu to be in an even more sour mood.

Smiling Kang Jun entered the room with the two.

From across the hall, Rong Lihua had been gazing at the happy family with a complicated expression. She was happy that both Kang Jun and Kang Mingyu were able to find someone they both loved; someone they could both get closer to and in turn, get closer to one another…

But Rong Lihua feared for their future.

She had seen the cruelty of the Kang's first hand, and she wasn't sure if she was okay with letting such a young and innocent girl be defiled by the Kang family.

Though, as she kept gazing at them, she came to understand one thing. The faces of those three young people glowed when they were together... and so she knew that they would never let each other go.

'Young master, young miss… I wish you good luck'

It didn't take long before Kang Mingyu fell asleep and once he did, Lu AnLing couldn't help but examine his cute chubby face.

"What are you thinking?" Kang Jun said with a whisper.

Lu AnLing looked into the mans eyes. Her own sparkled but Kang Jun could not fully comprehend the emotion behind it.

"Do you think he looks like me?"

Lu AnLing knew exactly what she was insinuating. She didn't know If she should say it at first but Rong Lihua's word had an impact on her and now, they echoed loud in her brain.

Watching Lu AnLing silently for a moment, before his eye turned to Kang Mingyu, Kang Jun wasn't quite sure what to say.

Maybe it was because he didn't want to see it but the more he looked the more conflicted he became.

Elder Kang was a foolish man but he wasn't cruel enough to steal a child from its mother and then claim that she was dead, would he?

Kang Jun wasn't quite sure...

Suddenly, he remembered something that Mr. Long had said to him while they had headed to the Kang old house.

"Don't you think that Miss Lu and Kang Mingyu look strangely alike…" Mr. Long had said slowly.

Calmly sitting in the back seat, Kang Jun lifted his head up from his doc.u.ments and frowned. He remembered both of their faces in his mind and then compared and contrasted them.

He had not answered Mr. Long but there was no way he would be able to not answer his wife.

Being open, bring truthful…

He had come up with that condition, and he wouldn't break it because of his own insecurities.

Kang Jun sighed.

No matter...

"A bit, but I can find out… "

Hearing his reply Lu AnLing bit her lip before she touched Kang Mingyu's b.u.t.ton nose as he calmly breathed in and out.

'My son...' Lu AnLing said in her mind. This was the first time she'd learned of the possible gender of her child. When they'd been taken away, she didn't even have the chance to see them or touch them and this had pained her.

But now, as she gazed down at the boy and then to the man at her side her heart grew considerably warmer.

Even if Kang Mingyu wasn't her child, she couldn't deny that he had filled the gaping hole in her heart. Him and Kang Jun... they had quickly become special existences that Lu AnLing feared to lose.

Making herself comfortable, Lu AnLing hugged Kang Mingyu. Because the boy was so small, he fit perfectly between the couple's chests, and so, Kang Jun and Lu AnLing's faces were quite close together but Kang Jun still hovered a few centimetres above her due to his height.

Feeling his breath on the top of her head, Lu AnLing felt calm and warm and so, she quickly fell asleep.

***

When Lu AnLing woke up the next morning, the first thing she did was check her phone. She wasn't sure if there was work today, but if Madame Liu needed her, the woman would text.

Though what she truly wanted to see was a text from her mother telling her that she could visit Grandma Lu.

Though imagine her surprise when she saw a flurry of messages from her friend, Sheng, instead.

LoverboyMS: [Are you excited?]

LoverboyMS: [I'll be at the airport at around noon on Wednesday. I haven't been home for so long, so can I crash at your place?]

LoverboyMS: [h.e.l.lo? Earth to Lu AnLing!]

Reading the man's messages, Lu AnLing didn't know what to say. She was glad that Sheng was back but on the other hand, with everything going on, she didn't know if it was the best of times.

Sheng or, as the girls in high school liked to call him, everybody's Sheng, was younger than Lu AnLing by a couple of months. He was beloved by everyone back in high school and this seemed to always cause problems for the both of them.

Lu AnLing: [Oh, you're coming back? That's great. I can't wait to see you.]

Sheng took no time to answer.

LoverboyMS: [You literally don't sound excited at all, I'm horribly offended. Don't talk to me, we aren't friend anymore.]

Lu AnLing: [Oh come on! Stop being a little b.i.t.c.h!]

LoverboyMS: [Shut up. Your took years to answer me. I actually hate you right now.]

Lu AnLing: [Also, I don't think you should stay with me. You haven't been home in so long. Be a good son and go live with your parent's for a few days.]

Sheng sent several crying emoji's.

LoverboyMS: [ Hey… Lu AnLing… why do you have to be so cruel. I can't go back there right now. I'll get scolded.]

Reading this, Lu AnLing began to pout. She wasn't sure about what kind of fight Sheng had with his parents but he had left the country pretty quickly after high school had ended.

Lu AnLing: [You're still young, you might need a good scolding!]

LoverboyMS: [Boy… since when did you turn into an old uncle.]

Lu AnLing frowned while reading this.

Lu AnLing: [Who's an uncle? Don't you mean auntie?]

LoverboyMS: [I think uncle suits you better. An Auntie would at least sympathize and try her best so that I don't get scolded, but you… you want me to get scolded. That's typical annoying uncle behaviour.]

Lu AnLing: [Let's end this conversation right here. How about, if I tell you that I'll pick you up and find you a place to stay, then will you shut up?]

LoverboyMS: [I'll take a taxi but, I'll gladly take you up on the whole 'place to stay thing'.]

Lu AnLing: [it's a deal then]
