Qiao Lan had been with them just a moment ago but as soon as Mo Yichen had finished his speech, the woman had left to accompany her friends.
Seeing her leave, the couple didn't try to stop her, instead, they just held hands but it wasn't lovingly at all because they two were in their own worlds, thinking about the people they hated the most.
Every so often Kang Nianxi would squeeze w.a.n.g Tingting's hand, forcing her to turn her attentions to him but when she confirmed that it was just unconscious she went back to her thoughts.
Lu AnLing, that b.i.t.c.h...
"Hubby…" She found herself saying.
Hearing his wife's voice full of anger and strife, Kang Nianxi turned to her with confusion.
"What?"
w.a.n.g Tingting turned to him and squeezed his hand hard. Her eyes were burning with h.e.l.lfire and her mouth was in a straight line.
"I'm so annoyed and embarra.s.sed. In front of everybody, your brother just… he just…" w.a.n.g Tingting let out an exasperated sight. "how can I continue to live after this…"
Kang Nianxi internalized w.a.n.g Tingting's words. He felt the same way. He didn't like the way Kang Jun had acted but what was done was done.
Thinking about it, his face darkened.
No matter how angry he was, there was nothing he could do. Not only because Kang Jun was the elders favorite but also because Qiao Lan had ordered him not to act rashly and, considering that she was like an older sister to him, he wouldn't.
Kang Nianxi: "Your point is?"
"I want revenge."
Kang Nianxi looked at his wife with eyes wide open. He was horrified by the words that she expressed. "On Kang Jun?!"
'Have fun dying!' His mind couldn't help but laugh.
w.a.n.g Tingting shook her head.
"No not on him. This… this was all that girl's fault!"
Girl? What girl?
Kang Nianxi had not remembered any girl in particular but remembering that his wife had left his side to find an old friend, he gave her a quizzical look.
"Your old friend?"
"Yes, hubby... And actually, she isn't much of a friend...She angered me so much that I had completely lost sense of my surroundings."
Kang Nianxi looked at his wife for a moment and thought. There was no way for them to go up against Kang Jun when it came to this matter but who was he to stop his wife from getting her revenge?
"Fine."
Hearing her husbands reply, w.a.n.g Tingting's face brightened like the sun.
She kissed him on the cheek lovingly and then left the table.
In the hallway, w.a.n.g Tingting walked like she was on a mission. Seeing Lu AnLing's long and flowy red dress, w.a.n.g Tingting felt her fingers curl into firsts.
"Lu AnLing!" w.a.n.g Tingting screamed.
w.a.n.g Tingting expected the girl to turn around, mostly after she'd provoked Lu AnLing a small while back, but the girl didn't turn, she didn't even flinch at the call of her name.
Angered, w.a.n.g Tingting rushed to the girl.
"Lu AnLing! Stop right there!"
The girl still didn't turn. Her flowing straight hair just continued to move side to side as the girl walked forwards. Suddenly, the girl stopped to let a woman cross in front of her. The woman was a janitor and she was carrying a mop and a bucket.
The sudden stop allowed w.a.n.g Tingting to catch up to the girl.
At first, she had just planned to slap Lu AnLing and then threaten her with the secret of her pregnancy but w.a.n.g Tingting decided to keep that for later because, beside the girl, the janitors closet door was wide open with the keys hanging from the lock.
At that moment, w.a.n.g Tingting got a better idea!
With a hard shove at the back of the woman in the red dress, w.a.n.g Tingting felt satisfaction spread through her body. A wide smile then bloomed on her face as she watched the girl sprawled on the janitor closet floor.
w.a.n.g Tingting admired her handiwork for a moment but right when the girl began to move, she slammed the door shut and locked it behind her.
***
Prior to w.a.n.g Tingting leaving the ballroom, Lu AnLing, Manager Hong and Lin Li had split up in order to cover more ground. None of them were sure where Ning Jie was but they knew they had to find her quickly.
Before they'd left the room, Liang Ke had pulled the three girls aside to inform them that he had asked Ning Jie to perform with him.
Liang Ke: "The performance should start in around 1 hour but I can delay it for around 30 minutes more."
The time limit made the girls' blood run cold but what really bothered Lu AnLing the most was the strange look Liang Ke had in his eyes when he spoke.
There was something he was hiding but Lu AnLing didn't voice her concern. Manager Hong and Lin Li probably had no time for conspiracy theories anyway.
Walking as quickly as she could, Lu AnLing did about two rounds back and forth and she still couldn't find Ning Jie.
Lu AnLing had been walking around for a while now but there was no sign of Ning Jie. She texted Manager Hong and Lin Li to see if they'd found the girl but none of them had had any luck, so the girl continued to walk the halls.
Truthfully, Lu AnLing was only halfheartedly searching for Ning Jie. She believed the girl would be fine no matter what had happened to her. She wouldn't miss an opportunity like this even if she had to claw her way out of a pit of vipers. At least that was how she regarded the Ning Jie that she had gotten to know.
Though in the end, what really mattered to Lu AnLing, were the words that had come from w.a.n.g Tingting's mouth.
Never in a million years did Lu AnLing think that anyone from her past had seen her in her most vulnerable state. But now, she knew that someone did and out of all the people in the world, it had to be w.a.n.g Tingting.
Lu AnLing touched her stomach longingly and felt fear overtake her whole body.
She wasn't sure why w.a.n.g Tingting hadn't told anyone but she knew that it was a matter of time before she did.
This would ruin Lu AnLing and heavily impact the Lu's.
Grandma and Grandpa Lu were very traditional and prideful when it came to the family name. If one child even dared to sully it they would punish them, like they had done when they'd kicked out Lu Xia, despite the girl's many achievements.
Unlike Lu Xia, Lu AnLing hadn't accomplished much, so If word spread and reached the ears of the old man and woman, Lu AnLing feared what would be done to her. Despite not being close to most members of the Lu family, they were still family and some were people who she cherished. Not only that, but Lu Shuya would also get punished for keeping secrets for her.
Lu AnLing couldn't allow that to happen. She had involved the girl in that because she had no one to turn to but that didn't mean the girl had to help but she did, anyway.
She understood the debt she owed to Lu Shuya.
As Lu AnLing continued to walk, many things pa.s.sed through her mind. She was almost completely distracted but then, she suddenly saw the figure of a little girl, wearing a dark dress, leaning against the wall.
The child's face carried the expression of extreme exasperation.
Lu AnLing walked over to the small figure leaning against the wall. Coming close, Lu AnLing tilted her head.
"Are you okay?" Lu AnLing said kindly as she approached the little one.
Hearing a strangers voice, the little girl looked at Lu AnLing with calmness but below the surface, the girl's heart was palpitating like a jackhammer and Lu AnLing could swear that she could feel the air around the little girl freeze over.
"I-I'm fine."
The stutter gave the girl's emotions away. She wasn't fine. But why?
Seeing this, Lu AnLing lowered herself to look at the girl in the eyes. Due to her high heels, she was not as low as she could be, though, It was good enough since the little girl was tall. If she wasn't Lu AnLing would have had to crane her neck down uncomfortably.
"Do you want me to help you find your parents?"
Her voice made it's way to Lu AnLing's ears. Hearing herself, her eyes narrowed.
This situation seemed oddly familiar.
"No. I'm just searching for the bathroom but…"
Lu AnLing: "Your mom didn't accompany you?"
The little girl shook her head, turning her bands into a mess. "It's not her fault. She was busy talking so I just left."
Lu AnLing didn't seem convinced but since that was what the girl said, she wouldn't pry into it. Fixing the girls bangs, Lu AnLing gave the girl a kind smile before pus.h.i.+ng herself up from the red-carpeted ground. Once straightened, Lu AnLing extended her hand towards the little girl.
Seeing Lu AnLing's hand, the girl gazed at it for a moment but she didn't make a movement.
Lu AnLing: "Don't worry. I'll bring you to the bathroom."
