What a coincidence for the man to come and save her when she was about to go on a rampage.
Or was it a coincidence at all?
Fate…
The hopeless romantic in her filled her mind with girlish fantasies. Thinking about it, she couldn't help herself from smiling slightly, but when she realized it, she slapped her hand on her mouth.
What was she thinking…
Seeing her action, many people at the table turned to look at her with a questioning gaze but they didn't speak.
Soon after, the event fully began. Mo Yichen, the President of Halo Stars Entertainment made his way to the stage and introduced himself as the host. The mild-mannered man smiled with kindness as he explained the itinerary.
The main attractions were the bidding and then a special performance by two Halo Stars artists. Hearing this, many people clapped. The rich and famous people in the room that day barely had any time to relax and be entertained so they were glad to get the chance to.
Right now, a couple of hours had pa.s.sed and the night was still young so people mixed and mingled with their entourage but Kang Jun stayed seated. He didn't move a muscle and no one came to speak to him either. He was so intimidating that people were afraid. And he liked it that way. Though there was a time where Mo Yichen had spoken to him for a little while. Other than that, no one else.
Most people would not be able to handle being avoided but at the moment the thought didn't even cross Kang Jun's mind. In fact, he and Lu AnLing were having a fun little-staring contest. He couldn't help but look at her with love and this made the girl blush.
Watching the girl's silly reactions, made spring come into Kang Jun's heart. The feeling spread from his core towards the tips of his fingers, but it wasn't enough.
He wanted to hear her voice, feel her closer and touch her skin.
Being so close and yet so far made Kang Jun want to walk over to the girl, pull her to his side, and kiss her hard. Since he had first tasted the honey of her sweet lips, his body began to crave for it. Though he stopped any action that came to mind. He knew that the girl wouldn't like that but that didn't stop him from imagining it.
Satisfaction and affection filled his eyes when he looked at her and she could see it too. He didn't hold back, not even for a second. He couldn't even care less that they were in public.
Lu AnLing blushed and turned away. If it wasn't for her makeup, people would have realized her change but instead, those who had returned to her table just continued doing their own things.
If he wasn't in public, Kang Jun would have laughed at her cuteness.
"Ah Jun?" Rong Yue Wan's voice a.s.saulted Kang Jun's happiness pulling him out of his delusions. She pulled the chair beside him. Not turning towards her, Kang Jun continued to stare forward. "It's such a coincidence to see you here! Right Elder Qiao?"
Hearing the way she forced her surprise, Kang Jun frowned.
Beside Rong Yue Wan, Elder Qiao stood proudly but he didn't say a thing. He then turned to look at the chair his a.s.sistant held.
"Yue Wan, sit down."
Rong Yue Wan furrowed her eyebrows. "Sir, this is your seat."
"I don't want to sit there." The old man sneered as he gave Kang Jun a death stare.
Rong Yue Wan wanted to ask why and then insist that the elder sits by Kang Jun but Elder Qiao hated when people were forceful so she sat down and left it at that.
Not even turning to look to the old man, Kang Jun sighed mockingly, "I never knew Elder Qiao could be so childish."
He was loud but he spoke in French. No one at the table but Rong Yue Wan, Elder Qiao and himself knew the language.
"You—"
Kang Jun was never the type of person that was kind to another just because they were an elder. If the man wanted to be rude to him, he'd do the same to him and he'd have no regrets.
"Am I wrong?"
Elder Qiao sighed and then turned away, "Little boy, who do you think you are, speaking to me like this?"
Rong Yue Wan sank in her seat.
"I'm someone who wants to give you a warning." Hearing this, Elder Qiao scoffed, but Kang Jun didn't take his actions to heart. He just continued to look at Lu AnLing who chatted with the people around her and who would sometimes look his way. "Control your granddaughter. She's overstepping her boundaries."
A vein in Elder Qiao's neck bulged but because they were at a table full of people, he kept his voice cool and calm.
"I think it is you who should know your boundaries. Your place in your family isn't as solid as you might believe."
Kang Jun raised his eyebrow. Considering how Elder Kang was trying to make him the successor Kang Jun knew that his position in the family was more secure than even Elder Kang himself but the old man peeked his interests.
Kang Jun looked at the elder.
"How so?"
"Do you really think the Kang family would take a murderer as their heir?"
"I did no such thing." Kang Jun was calm. His voice didn't stray in the slightest.
Elder Qiao turned to look Kang Jun straight in the eyes.
"Little boy, if I learned something in my long life, it's that lying isn't good."
Listening to Elder Qiao's nonsensical words, Kang Jun frowned and, in the middle, Rong Yue Wan felt herself suffocate. This was going to be a very long night. Though, at the same time, she didn't mind since she could spend some time with Kang Jun.
"You're both family, I think it's best if you two got along." Rong Yue Wan said. Her voice sounded small compared to the voices of the two men, but it also sounded romantic as the French words spilled from her mouth, despite her accent.
To her statement, Kang Jun didn't reply but Elder Qiao sneered. "Family? What does that mean to this heartless boy? A man who committed fratricide, can he even be called a man?"
Hearing this, Rong Yue Wan gulped, and then looked at Kang Jun.
The man she loved was not reacting at all. He just picked up the gla.s.s of blood red wine that had laid untouched for hours and drank.
"Ah Jun…" Rong Yue Wan started but she didn't finish her sentence. She wanted the man to defend himself against the elder. As his a.s.sistant, she knew more than anyone that the old man was stubborn when strange ideas formed in his head.
For all she'd known, Kang Zhi had died in a freak accident and it was wrong to blame Kang Jun for that but she just couldn't say it.
"Think what you want." Kang Jun answered coldly.
Staring at him, Rong Yue Wan's eyes glazed over.
Meanwhile, at Lu AnLing's table, Ning Jie had disappeared for nearly 45 minutes and Manager Hong was beginning to get restless.
"That girl totally ran away." One celebrity sneered as she spoke to another.
"Ahaha good. She was ruining my mood anyway."
"Come on guys, aren't you being a little rude?" Liang Ke asked calmly. Not wanting to offend the man, the two girls smiled innocently.
"We were only telling the truth." One girl whined as the other kept her mouth shut.
Hearing this, Xiao Mian frowned. "Senior Brother Liang is right, you guys shouldn't treat your juniors like that, it's a disgrace to the company. Can't you see that?"
As the girls listened to Xiao Mian and Liang Ke scold them, their expressions grew grim. Seeing this, Lu AnLing, Manager Hong and Lin Li felt a strange discomfort in their stomachs. They believed that rather than being a good thing, the two were just making things worse for Ning Jie.
"Shouldn't you go find her?" Lu Shuya asked. It wasn't that she was concerned but she was just bringing up the most logical thing to do.
Since their small altercation with w.a.n.g Tingting, Lu Shuya had remained quiet. It was like she had reverted to her more indifferent, and dare Lu AnLing say, kind self. Though she didn't have much time to think about it.
"Yes. We should." Lin Li said pus.h.i.+ng herself from her chair.
Manager Hong and Lu AnLing followed the girl's example and they all left the ballroom in search for Ning Jie.
Outside the girls split up to cover more ground.
Seeing Lu AnLing's troubled face as she left the table, Kang Jun frowned. He placed his finished wine gla.s.s on the table and then he stood up elegantly.
"If you'll excuse me." Kang Jun said politely.
The people at the table nodded and Rong Yue Wan watched Kang Jun with admiration as he made his way to the door. The only one who pretended as if the man didn't exist was Elder Qiao.
He hated Kang Jun so much. But he wasn't the only one…
At another part of the room, Kang Nianxi watched as Kang Jun walked out the door and bit his lip angrily. That G.o.dd.a.m.n older brother of his p.i.s.sed him off.
For a while, the man had been sitting awkwardly as he held his wife's trembling hand. They were both so angry at what had happened that they couldn't even speak. Now he felt as if many mocking eyes were on the both of them. It made his insides crawl.
Why couldn't that older brother of his have let him save some face?!
This was something Kang Nianxi couldn't forgive. He tightened his grip on w.a.n.g Tingting's hand, causing her to wince. He then turned to look at another woman who wore a dark dress.
It was Qiao Lan.
"Sis…" the main started but the woman didn't want to hear it. She quickly cut him off, before downing her martini.
"Ignore him for now."
