"Speak"
"I'm sorry, second young master. The young mistress fainted."
As soon as he heard those words, Kang Jun felt his heart break. Rong Xin's voice was firm. The man was trying his best to contain his fear, but Kang Jun heard it anyways.
"What happened?" Kang Jun's voice was cold and filled with bone chilling anger.
Rong Xin: "I-I don't know. She was fine just a moment ago. I'm bringing her to the hospital now…"
"Don't." Kang Jun said, cutting the man off. "Just bring her to her room. I'll make arrangements."
Rong Xin: "Yes, sir."
"Now, pa.s.s the phone to Mingyu."
Rong Xin did as he was asked and when the phone was in Kang Mingyu's hands, he didn't speak but Kang Jun could hear his breathing and a light sob on the other end of the line.
"Are you okay?" Kang Jun asked sincerely.
The boy didn't answer Kang Jun.
A moment ago, he had been happy in the girls embrace, but seeing that the girl had fainted now the boy had felt like his whole world had come cras.h.i.+ng down. So, of course, he wouldn't be okay. His auntie had fallen ill!
Understanding the boy's unspoken words, Kang Jun sighed. "Everything will be fine. Go with Rong Xin. I'll get Doctor Chong and he will be there shortly."
Once he said that Kang Jun gestured to Mr. Long and the man immediately called Doctor Chong.
Meanwhile, Kang Mingyu answered weakly. "Mmm..."
Hearing the pain in the boy's voice, Kang Jun felt his heartbreak once more. He prayed in his heart that nothing too bad was ailing the girl. Walking fast toward the door with Mr. Long, the faces of the two were grave. But then, suddenly, they both heard a voice.
"Doctor Chong? Did something happen to Mingyu?"
Turning to look behind him, Kang Jun was glad when he saw no one but a little girl there.
"Sorry… did I scare you?" Kang Mei Xue asked.
On her face, she wore an expression of both worry and apology.
"No," Kang Jun paused for a minute at the door.
Kang Mei Xue gave the man a small pout. "No, I didn't scare you or no, something didn't happen to Mingyu?"
"No to both."
Just as Kang Jun answered. Qiao Lan and the housekeeper walked out of the dinning hall. They were whispering about something but Kang Jun didn't care. He just wanted to leave. So he patted Kang Mei Xue on the head and then he turned on his heels.
Kang Mei Xue looked at him longingly, but seeing Qiao Lan approach, she understood.
"Bye." Kang Mei Xue muttered as the man reached for the door.
He had almost opened it too until he heard Qiao Lan call to him. Kang Jun turned to look at the woman who had her hands on her hips and frowned. He really didn't have time for her.
Qiao Lan walked over to him with a sweet smile. Looking between Mr. Long and Kang Jun the woman didn't dare act rashly.
"Ah Jun," The woman said softly. Her voice sent chills down Kang Jun's back but he wasn't the only one. The housekeeper gave the woman a strange look also.
Qiao Lan: "I need to go out. Rong Yue Wan called, my grandfather hasn't been feeling well lately so I have to visit him. Could you please stay here with little Mei?"
Qiao Lan purposely phrased the sentence in a way that made it so any civil man shouldn't be able to refuse. But Kang Jun wasn't that kind of man.
"I can't."
Hearing this, everyone surrounding the man frowned.
They all felt as if he was being a bit rude, but as for Kang Mei Xue, she wondered if the man didn't like her anymore, but truly, it had nothing to do with her. Seeing the girl's dejected appearence, Kang Jun felt himself waver. Although, on the other hand, he couldn't risk bringing Kang Mei Xue with him.
He was in a bind...
"Just bring her with you." A strong voice spoke.
Everyone turned to face the old man who clutched onto his cane.
From the background, Elder Kang had been watching them. Hearing what Kang Jun had said, he had also frowned but he knew the man had something important to take care of so this reaction was to be expected.
"Don't you think you should spend some time with her?"
Kang Jun frowned slightly.
He wasn't sure if it was a good idea. He was going to check on Lu AnLing's condition after all. Looking down to meet Kang Mei Xue's pleading eyes, Kang Jun began to feel bad. He had quite neglected the girl these past few months. Because Mei Xue was treated well by Qiao Lan, Kang Jun gave most of his attention to the weak Kang Mingyu but just then, he realized that this was like denying the girl a fathers love.
Elder Kang: "Just bring her with you and have your secretary take care of her as you do your work."
Putting his hand on the little girl's head, Kang Jun nodded. "Fine. Get ready, we need to go now."
Quickly, the girl quickly ran upstairs and grabbed her bag. Once she came back down she gave the man a wide smile.
Kang Jun left without another word.
Behind him, Mr. Long and Kang Mei Xue said their goodbyes to the three in the house before they followed after Kang Jun.
Mr. Long felt a bit regretful that his first time actually entering the Kang family main house was short lived but at the same time, he was glad he was leaving. However, when he gazed down the little girl by his side, Mr. Long felt a headache coming.
He had a feeling that he was going to be stuck babysitting not one, but two children. Not to mention coaxing Kang Mingyu who was, Mr. Long a.s.sumed, devastated by Lu AnLing's current condition.
Mr. Long sighed and entered the car.
Taking the wheel, Kang Jun sped towards Hotel Helios.
From the back seat, Kang Mei Xue watched the man curiously. Kang Jun's expression was strange which bothered her greatly because the man almost never changed.
"Are you worried about something?" Kang Mei Xue asked, curiously. She didn't actually mean to speak but the words just came out before she could stop them.
Lifting his head up, Kang Jun looked at the little girl from the rearview mirror.
"…"
He didn't know what to tell the girl. He didn't want to mention Lu AnLing to the girl. She was young but not only that, she was, as fas as he knew, always in Qiao Lan's company.
If she accidentally spoke about Lu AnLing to her mother, this would be problematic. It wouldn't just be a problem for him but also to Lu AnLing. Kang Jun knew of the horrors socialites and their doting families could cause.
If Qiao Lan ever thought that Lu AnLing was a threat then she would be in constant danger.
Suddenly, a thought came to mind.
"Did you tell Qiao Lan about—"
"Don't worry. I didn't mention anything about you and me meeting at the event thing."
Kang Jun: "Good."
Kang Mei Xue shook her head. "No problem. It's better for everyone if I don't mention it anyways."
Kang Mei Xue was an intelligent girl. Despite being only 7 years old she knew of the state of the Kang family and the disastrous relations.h.i.+p between Kang Jun and Qiao Lan. Despite not choosing sides and not wanting to get involved, seeing the lack of support on her second uncle's side, made her heartbreak.
Because of this, the girl tried her best to make sure she was never an obstacle in the man's way.
"What about the girl?" Kang Jun's voice changed slightly.
Looking up, Kang Mei Xue c.o.c.ked her head.
"I told mom that she helped me when I was lost."
"What did your mom say?"
"She said that she wanted to thank her." Chewing on her lip, Kang Mei Xue asked, "Why?"
"No reason."
There was obviously and reason and the girl knew this but she didn't ask any more questions.
From the side, Mr. Long looked between the two. He wondered how his boss was going to explain the existence and importance of Lu AnLing to this girl.
