Even before Mr. Long had begun to explain the situation, the doctor was already headed straight out the door.
Once the man arrived at Hotel Helios, he immediately made his way inside, but suddenly, someone called to him.
When Doctor Chong turned around, he saw a rather short man running. It was Mr. Long. And as soon as the man arrived near the doctor, he stopped and then fixed his gla.s.ses. Behind him, Doctor Chong saw Kang Jun holding Kang Mei Xue in his arms.
The usually cold and unemotional man had small sweat particles dripping from his forehead and his breath was slightly uneven.
Seeing this, the Doctor held his breath.
Doctor Chong was usually a calm man but seeing Kang Jun's tired manner, made the man's body stiffen slightly.
This must really be an emergency.
The four walked towards the elevator together, but before they made any move to step in, Kang Jun stopped Mr. Long and then put Kang Mei Xue down.
"The two of us will head up. As for you two, wait here."
Both Mr. Long and Kang Mei Xue gave the man a confused expression but Kang Jun made no effort to explain himself. Instead, he sighed slightly and said, "Please."
Hearing this, Kang Mei Xue and Doctor Chong's eyes widened in disbelief.
'This must really be serious.' Doctor Chong's mind screamed in fear.
Meanwhile Mr. Long examined Kang Jun seriously with a complicated look in his eyes.
Once upstairs, Kang Jun and Doctor Chong were greeted by Rong Xin who tried his best to coax a pale Kang Mingyu. The boy clung to Lu AnLing who laid unconscious on the bed.
Seeing this, Kang Jun felt as if someone had just pieced his heart with a spear. Unconsciously, the man sped to the woman's side and sat on the bed. Between him and the girl, laid a sobbing Kang Mingyu.
Despite his eyes being completely red, the boy didn't cry. He just stared unblinkingly at Lu AnLing.
"Mingyu…" Kang Jun said as he touched the boys head. "You need to move. Doctor Chong is here."
Feeling Kang Jun's coldness, Kang Mingyu's heart calmed a bit. He turned himself around and rolled to Kang Jun's side. Seeing the weakness in the boy's movements, Kang Jun didn't hesitate to pick him up.
Once he did, they moved away from the bed as Doctor Chong examined the girl.
On the side, Rong Xin looked at his master with a blank stare but his face was slightly pale. He then walked over to Kang Jun and then he lowered his head.
"Sir… I'm sorry. I failed you." Rong Xin's voice was calm, but there was an underlying fear.
"What happened?"
For a moment, Rong Xin averted his eyes to gaze Lu AnLing's way. Staring at her pale figure, Rong Xin felt his throat burn. She had been completely fine one second and then completely not fine another second…
He wasn't sure how to say that to his master in a way so that he wouldn't get mad, so instead, he recounted the events of the day in chronological order.
About picking her up, about meeting Yang Yize, about going to eat hotpot, about the conversation about Rong Yue Wan...
Rong Xin told Kang Jun everything up until he had tried to wake the girl up in the car.
Pausing for a moment, Kang Jun thought about what the bodyguard had just told him. Kang Jun began to feel conflicted.
He was annoyed that Yang Yize had spoken to Lu AnLing, but the confrontation ended badly and from what he could understand, the girl no longer loved the man. And, Lu AnLing asking about Rong Yue Wan, albeit random, was not strange considering the woman's connection to Kang Jun. He just brushed it off as possible jealousy. This gave the man a bit of hope that he was actually having an effect on her. But, in the end, it wasn't important at the moment.
Kang Jun looked down to the little boy he held in his arms, and then towards Lu AnLing.
Despite all the possible good that had come out of the day, Kang Jun would have traded it all in for the health and smiles of these two people.
Feeling awkward due to Kang Jun's silence, Rong Xin bowed his head again. "I'm so sorry."
Looking at the man for a second, Kang Jun organized his thoughts, before he spoke.
"It's fine. You didn't do anything wrong. Next time pay closer attention to her."
Hearing Kang Jun's words, Rong Xin's c.o.c.ked his head.
There would be a next time? He was so sure he was going to be fired.
This was Kang Jun they were talking about. The man who once fired three bodyguards for failing to keep up with Kang Mingyu's disappearing act. Rong Xin had even heard that Kang Jun had recently driven a man to suicide by seizing all of the man's property and making it impossible for him to find a house or a job in the whole country!
Rong Xin knew for sure that Lu AnLing was special to Kang Jun, so why was he being left off the hook so easily?
Looking back towards Lu AnLing, Rong Xin couldn't help but be confused. Was she precious or not precious? Or was Rong Xin missing something?
Seeing the man's confused expression, Kang Jun frowned and he began to wonder if Rong Xin was an idiot.
Rong Xin was an exceptional bodyguard. For three years he had been around Kang Mingyu and the boy trusted him. That alone was usually good enough for Kang Jun, but today, the man had outdone himself.
Not only had he protected Lu AnLing from Yang Yize but, as Kang Jun understood, he had also treated her with utmost respect and care throughout the whole day.
Kang Jun had no complaints.
It wasn't Rong Xin's fault if Lu AnLing had gotten sick. He wasn't a G.o.d; he couldn't protect the girl form illness.
Was this really something Kang Jun had to explain to the man?
Guessing by Rong Xin's expression, the answer was yes but It wasn't Kang Jun's style to do so, so he left the man with questions.
Meanwhile, at the foot of Lu AnLing's bed, Doctor Chong continued to examine the girl. He checked the girl's temperature, her heartbeat, her complexion, etc.
The more things he did, the more his lip tugged down into a frown.
Taking Lu AnLing's hand to check her pulse once more, Doctor Chong was completely still.
"Has she been under any stress lately?" Doctor Chong's words resonated through the room.
Stress…?
Both Kang Jun and Rong Xin had faraway looks in their eyes.
With only day spent with the girl, Rong Xin could determine the answer to that question, easily. He didn't know what Yang Yize was to Lu AnLing but the confrontation gave him stress when he'd seen it from afar, and then the conversation about Rong Yue Wan… that was also very stressful.
As for Kang Jun, the entire time he had spent with the girl flashed across his mind's eye. Thinking back to all that happened, Kang Jun sighed.
Not hearing any answer, Doctor Chong took the silence as a yes.
Letting go of the girls wrist. Doctor Chong tried to gather his words in his head. The man put his hands into his pockets and then he began to walk towards Rong Xin, Kang Jun, and Kang Mingyu. He stopped just a few steps shy of them.
"Is she okay?" Rong Xin asked with concern.
Doctor Chong's face was completely blank. This brought anxiety to Rong Xin's heart.
"She's fine. By what I can see, physically, there are no problems. She seems completely healthy, but the mind is a complicated thing. She's probably been under a lot of stress lately and so her mind just needed to shut down for a while. She also has a slight fever, but once it goes down she should be fine. Sleep is what she needs right now, and lots of it…"
Rong Xin's body relaxed and so did Kang Mingyu's.
When they'd realized that Lu AnLing had fainted both of them were scared to death. They could only imagine the worse for what was ailing the girl, mostly when she couldn't be woken up.
Hearing that everything was fine, they both wanted to cry but they were men, and they believed that men shouldn't cry, so they held it in.
While both boys were completely relieved, Kang Jun starred at Doctor Chong.
"Is that all?" Kang Jun asked.
Doctor Chong smiled slightly and narrowed his eyes. "Yes…"
Hearing the man's reply, Kang Jun gave the man his iciest glare.
Doctor Chong: "No…"
The two men had known each other for a long time. They had pretty much been raised together and because they were around the same age, they had even gone to school together. Though they weren't friends. But because they were so close, Kang Jun, who was very observant, knew the man's mannerism and so, he could see that Doctor Chong hadn't told him everything.
"Tell me."
Doctor Chong: "I don't think I should…"
"Say it."
Doctor Chong averted his gaze. "But…"
Getting impatient, Kang Jun pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Spit it out!"
"Well… Her, ugh, time of the month is probably coming soon. Hence why she's so drained,"
Hearing this, Kang Jun and Rong Xin were frozen but Kang Mingyu was utterly confused. He wanted to ask what a 'time of the month' meant but seeing the awkwardness between the three men he thought it would be best not to know.
"Kang Jun," Doctor Chong continued. "This girl, she's your girlfriend, right? You know, you should take care of her. Stress during this period of time is bad for the female body."
Doctor Chong had no idea about what relations.h.i.+p the two really had but he knew that it must be special so he spoke to Kang Jun as he spoke to husbands or boyfriends about their wives or girlfriends.
At first, Doctor Chong expected to be scolded by the man but instead, Kang Jun listened to him alertly.
"I'll take care of her."
