“But we must send guys there! If we lose our men on the border, what could we do in the capital? Without them, we can depend on no one and we’ll just be the ephemera.” Explained Wu Jitian firmly, “Send guys to check on the border and only in this way can we have a slim chance of survival!”
To tell the truth, he hadn’t expected such a condition, either.
“My Lord, but…” murmured Lin Zang. He couldn’t change what had already happened. He tried to argue, because in his eyes, Wu Jitian’s safety mattered most.
But Wu Jitian stopped him immediately, “No buts…”
“Well, if so, I think we should bring Miss Dong with us.” answered Lin Zang reluctantly. That was his bottom line. After all, Prince Jitian shouldn’t risk his own life.
“Dong Ling? Good point.” Wu Jitian’s eyes brightened. Dong Ling, as far as he knew, was quite a remarkable girl! She looked somehow weird, but also got medical skills and martial arts. Most importantly, he knew who she was and what she really wanted, based on which he had total confidence in controlling her.
“Miss Dong wants to be a general. But she’s a mere girl… And His Majesty won’t…” said Lin Zang worriedly. Under such a condition, Prince Jitian could even hardly protect himself. Not to mention promoting a girl…
“Don’t worry about that. We’ll just have her on our side first. Then, she can’t leave easily even if she wants!” said Wu Jitian with a faint smile when he had some tea.
“Mom. I’m determined to take revenge. Don’t worry. Those guys in the Dong family will pay for what they’ve done!” said Dong Ling while she felt the intent to kill.
“But Ling…” stuttered Concubine Lin. She stared at Dong Ling and felt it hard to say goodbye.
Also, she was quite nervous. It must be a dangerous trip. She couldn’t stop worrying about her daughter. She then tried to persuade Dong Ling, “Ling, we don’t need to take revenge! You’re my dear daughter. What if you get hurt?”
As she spoke, tears rolled down on her face. She took the handkerchief and wiped the tears.
“Mom, I’ll be fine.” answered Dong Ling, “I know how far to go!”
Seeing her mom weeping for her, Dong Ling felt somehow sad. Her heart melted.
But thinking of the hatred against the Dong family, she stiffened her heart again.
She checked the time and nearly a quarter of time had pa.s.sed by. Yet, she hadn’t got packed. She was going to say goodbye, “Mom. Time is running out. I have to go! Take care!”
She rushed out quickly in case she wanted to stay!
However, instead of leaving directly, she went to see Zhumo, gave her some money and asked her to take care of her mom.
After putting her mind at ease, she returned to her own room for packing. Suddenly, someone rushed out from the back of the door and covered Dong Ling’s mouth and nose before she turned around!
Phew! Dong Ling smelt a strong stink!
“Sleeping drug?! Who was it?” she wondered.
Luckily, the a.s.sailant wasn’t strong. Dong Ling, in haste, had “him” in an armlock and gave “him” a back suplex!
The a.s.sailant hadn’t expected it! “He” fell down and felt the pain all over “his” body!
“Oops!” “He” yelled in a familiar voice.
Dong Ling looked back and asked in shock, “Mom?”
This was really unexpected! Dong Ling held her mom up. She used full strength just now. If she hurt her mom, she would always be guilty.
“Mom! Why is it you? Are you all right?” asked Dong Ling.
Concubine Lin tried not to yell out of pain. Thinking of the dangerous trip back to the capital city, she couldn’t help weeping, “Ling. We’re living a good life here in the Li Village. Why must you go and get involved in such trouble? The capital city is a place of danger! If you go, you won’t ever come out. I don’t want it! Could you not go? Just do it for me!”
Dong Ling explained, “Mom, I’m just going back for you!”
Such a conversation reminded Dong Ling of the old days when she and her mom were bullied. She must take revenge! Why could those bad guys enjoy high position and great wealth without any anxiety? And why must she and her mom suffer humbly?
Dong Ling added, “Mom. I’m going back to the capital, just to bring credit to you! Those guys looked down on us! Later, I’ll make them look up at us!”
Seeing the confident look on Dong Ling’s face, Concubine Lin realized that she could do nothing to stop her daughter. She was relieved, but still worried. Well, finally her daughter had grown up and could defend her.
She said, “Daughter, thank you for caring for me. Since you’ve made up your mind, I won’t try to stop you again. But you must remember! In case of anything, don’t rush or risk your life. Got it? You’re the apple of my eye. If you die, I’ll die with you!”
Dong Ling hugged her and replied, “Okay. I’ll listen to you and I’ll protect myself, for you at least.”
“My Lord, time is out. We mustn’t stay for any longer. But Miss Dong hasn’t come yet. Shall we set out?” asked Lin Zang who stood by the cart and looked disappointed.
“Let’s wait.” replied Wu Jitian, sitting in the cart.
He sounded calm, and quite rea.s.suring.
As he finished, he turned another page of the book he was reading.
Mm. He was confident that Dong Ling would come. Thus, he would wait however long it may take.
“Hey! Wait!” Only a few minutes later, there came the familiar voice of Dong Ling in the distance.
“Oh, Miss Dong! Finally! If you were a bit later, we would have left!” complained Lin Zang while he was sitting in the front of the cart. He jumped off the cart to welcome Dong Ling as she walked up.
“My apologies! My mom was worried. It took me quite a lot of time to persuade her.” Dong Ling apologized in a low voice.
Wu Jitian lifted the curtains and said to Dong Ling with a smile, “Get in the cart. From now on, we’ll depend on each other.”
Dong Ling looked at him and felt somehow strange. She replied, “Thank you for your trust. But I’d rather ride a horse!”
“No way,” refused Wu Jitian, “You’re a girl. You shouldn’t ride a horse for the long trip!”
Dong Ling stepped back and continued, “No, no. I shouldn’t stay in a prince’s cart. People will gossip behind us.”
“Who dares to gossip about a prince?” Lin Zang interrupted. But Dong Ling gave him a contemptuous look.
“If you don’t get in, you’ll be disrespecting me. People will gossip, too.” explained Wu Jitian. Look! He always knew how to persuade Dong Ling.
Hearing this, Dong Ling had no choice, but to get in the cart as Wu Jitian wished.
“Let’s go!” ordered Wu Jitian happily when Dong Ling came up.
“Yes, My Lord.” replied Lin Zang. Seeing the one he had been expecting, Lin Zang was overjoyed, too. He asked the carted to set out and soon, the cart moved on.
Getting into the cart, Dong Ling took a deep breath to calm herself down!
Finally! She was going back to the capital!
